What do you think of Vatican's Boys' Choir?

I’m watching 60 Minutes, and they are doing a story on the Boys’ Choir.
They sound beautiful, but I can’t help thinking how it just shows again how the church has been a place for boys and men for a long time. I can’t help it. I’ve always known that a lot of priests are gay, I’ve known since I can remember. Let alone that it was a place pedophiles sought to work as well. I do NOT think all priests are gay or pedophiles, I think there are very very few pedophiles in the church (they are there just like there are coaches and teachers that are working in their careers near children too) but I do think there are a lot of gay men.
I’m pretty sure girls could produce those celestial sounds too.
Do you think it shouldn’t be kept as a Boys only Choir anymore? Do you like the tradition?

Now that you mention it, I’ve never heard them.
Let me hear them pout and I’ll tell you.
Heard them. They sound wonderful. God bless them.
Dunno about replacing them with women. Probably not gonna solve nor improve anything. Just because there are gay men does not mean the children are in danger (gay =/= child molester) and nothing says women wouldn’t be harassed there, among a bunch of men who haven’t had sex since God knows when.
You mean the Sistine Chapel Choir? That’s men and boys, not just boys.
This choir does not show that the Church is a “place for boys and men”. Single-sex choirs are not exclusive to Catholicism, not all single-sex choirs that are associated with the Church are all male, and just because an organization is single sex doesn’t mean that it has a necessary connection with homosexuality. There may be a disproportionate number of gay men in the clergy (got stats for this?), but I don’t think that has anything to do with the value of this choir.
An all-female choir can’t do the same, because it’s very hard to find enough women who can cover the lower ranges. With men and boys you can get everything from low bass to high soprano ranges. Of course, a mixed choir could sound just as good.
Should this group continue to be all male? I think the burden of proof lies on those who want to change it.
@JLeslie Are Austrians weighted towards being gay? Is Austria a place for men and boys? After all, it is home to the Vienna Boys Choir, and the Sing-Along Sound of Music is one of the most popular movies at the Castro Theater in San Francisco.
Just to be clear, I am not implying gay men are pedophiles. That is completely two different things.
I’m talking about it being a reminder. The Catholic Church, which overall I like, and feel very positive about, is full of every gay stereotype going. The men are practically in dresses, they get to be on a stage, it’s very theatrical, it’s full of art and beauty, priests stopped being allowed to marry, it absolutely was a haven for gay men who were rejected in normal society.
@zenvelo I don’t know who started the Vienna Boys Choir.
@Zissou You are correct, men and boys. They spoke to both the boys and men in the clip. I guess I was focused on the boys, because it is the boys who have the higher voices and I think could easily be replaced by some girls.
I bet the Pope gifted them a shit ton of KY for crimbo…poor buggers.
So, I started googling since I’m being challenged and asked for proof.

I am not saying there definitely was, or has to be currently, abuse, I don’t think that. I’m saying it makes me think of it. Way before the many scandals of sexual abuse came outcabout the Catholic Church I knew as a woman to be wary of men around children. It’s horrible, because of course there are many wonderful men who teach and coach and who love children, I’m just saying it’s good to have your eyes open.
I still don’t get what is wrong with the choir and why does it need change. It seems to me that the only problem you have with the choir is that there aren’t any women in it. That is, I dare say, ridiculous. Keep your political corectness where it should be and don’t try fixing what is not broken.
also, what is “KY for Crimbo”?
^^It has nothing to do with PC.
Wasn’t meant to be funny, although I have to say the reaction certainly was.
I can’t say that I think about it one way or the other.
