Does walking on pavement hurt horses?

Asked by Call_Me_Jay (14016points) January 1st, 2017

We have horse carriages for tourists but instead of a NYC-style ride in the park, they toodle around in traffic (they were banned from the parks).

I would think that iron shoes on pavement would lead to joint problems. I had to stop running from knee pain, and I had comfy running shoes.

I don’t like seeing the poor horses plodding among the cars. I don’t see the attraction for passengers, either. But then again, I don’t get lots of popular things.

Had a friend that was a farrier in Connecticut , he used something like THESE for carriage horses in southern New England.

@Tropical_Willie Neat, thanks. Now I realize I should ask the drivers next time I’m down at tourista central.

Yeah. That’s neat. Gotta get those new Jordans for your horse for Christmas…
