Can you get stuck upside down on an inversion table?
I’ve read that inversion tables are supposed to be healthy for the back and spine. But it’s not for everyone.
My question is this – since you’re hanging upside down, is there a risk you’re going to be stuck in that position with your feet 6 feet above your head?
(obviously, inversion chairs wouldn’t have that problem)

Not if you follow the instructions. Because of the way it’s weighted you have to have your hands over your head to go upside down. We had one but it hurt my ankles.
The guy in @Cruiser ‘s video had it set for a shorter person.
I managed to do it… but I also managed to un-stick myself. I was pretty scared for a couple of minutes. They can go past 180 degrees and then they “lock into place” using your own body weight. This is great if you want to do inverted crunches, but terrifying if you’re home alone and you were just trying the machine out for the first time (ignoring the warnings against using it while alone). Thats what happened to me.
@gorillapaws – that’s what I was worried about – too much upper body weight at the bottom.
@Cruiser – holy shit. That would scare me off of ever trying it again.
There’s a tether that you can clip to limit how far back it swings. I was a dumbass and unclipped it just to see what the thing was capable of. I looked exactly like that guy on the video for a couple of minutes until I got myself sorted out. There was a brief moment of panic when I pictured my girlfriend coming home and finding me with blood dripping from my eyes/ears, but it’s really not that bad. I really like mine.
If your abs are in good shape and/or the table is next to some sort of vertical support, generally no.
Wouldn’t hurt to have a cellphone strapped to your waist, though. Just in case. :-) Some tables can and do lock.
This is good to think about. Hubby wants one but he is seriously top-weighted. All shoulders and chest. Note to Mitch: No inverting alone.
