Colonials proving their stupidity once again by electing donald drumpf, validating my anti-colonialism.
Eye surgery that allows me to see/read without glasses.
Started working for a media company as their Business Manager.
Bought a business with my husband.
Moved to The Villages.
There was a half hour one afternoon, probably in May, when things seemed all right.
12:01am, January 1, 2016. It went downhill from there.
It wasn’t a real good year. I picked up a major new freelance client.
@Jeruba Not lunch with me in October?
My granddaughter was born, I had a difficult but rewarding series of truth and reconciliation emails with one son, and am becoming clearer and clearer in what I can and can’t expect from some people.
Got a new house, passed the final professional licensing exam, got my marriage on the right track. It was actually a very good year for me.
I had visits from overseas family.
My husband’s business is going really well and he won new contracts and is really energised about 2017 and new opportunities.
I travelled to six different countries, had a wonderful time and the trips were successful from a work perspective.
I was awarded a couple of major things at work that will make 2017 much more productive.
I got a book contract.
Papers I worked on for a long time were published.
I won a grant.
I retired last year and spent time travelling round Scotland, Europe and China with my girlfriend. We had a fabulous time together and enjoyed each other’s company. Looking back over 2016 I would say it was one of the best years of my life.
It was a fairly even, settled year. Pretty quiet. I met some nice people. I got a new dog, Dave, another border collie. He’s a good dog and growing like a weed. The boat got a new set of sails. The highlight was subbing for another charter captain in a hotel in Martinique. It was a “swinger’s” hotel, clothes optional, etc., one of many that are cropping up down here. The food was really good and, like the room, part of the contract. The money was good and needed. I met some nice, interesting people there. Nothing really bad happened in 2016 and that is good.
Oh – here’s another; my painting is getting better.
Enjoying the Chicago Cubs success with my 82 year old father. He became a fan of the Cubs when he was 10 and they were in the series. When he was 12 he began taking the train from central IL to Chicago all by himself to Wrigley Field to watch games. The train was free because his father worked for the railroad. All my father needed was $5 for a ticket, drink and hot dog. He often came home with leftover money in his pocket.
My lonely widowed father waited 72 years to see them win. He got to enjoy it with his daughters and he did shed tears.
After 4 surgeries in 3 months, the odd skipping heartbeat I’ve had my whole life suddenly went away.
@janbb, oh, of course! How could I overlook that? It was a treat.
In fact, I also had a few nice dinners with friends, I enjoyed much of my reading and my trips to the opera, and some of the things I put through the laundry came out smooth. But overall it was indeed a year of valleys and not peaks. Finding out how much I can take may be the theme of 2017.
@AnonymousAccount8, congratulations. That’s big.
I moved into my own little place again after 3 years of room mates, I survived, barely and have had a great time fixing it up just to my liking and…. we are getting pummeled with back to back storms that promises much drought relief here in CA. My power may go out at any second. haha
A good friend of mine died. And I realized how strong I was to cope with a death.
My best friend learned that she does not have thyroid cancer.
My daughter graduated from high school and started attending an excellent university across country. And my son got accepted as a transfer student at the best public university in the world.
Christmas morning.
I reconnected with my 36 yo nephew after a 25 year absence!!
Got a fish tank, quit smoking.
The smoking thing is recent. But it has been a few weeks and it seems alright. I got the flu and was physically unable to smoke for about a week so I just rolled with it.
Difficulty :: Pack a day for 20 years and I smoked at my desk. But I seem to have quit without any real problems or aids. This note helps
I got cast in one of my favorite shows. I really wanted this one!
Reaching my 50th birthday in October while still feeling & looking way younger.
I guess for me the highlight was turning 50 in the Spring and my mom was alive and well enough that we all were together and enjoyed the gathering at her house. It was one of the last with her there. She died in September after a 6 year battle with cancer that metastasized.
@jca My condolences on your mom. I am glad that you got your 50th with her.
