Peter Berresford Ellis, The Druids. Non-fiction, by one of my favourite scholars of Celtic history and anthropology.
Continuing my venture into Dune-lore, I’m going to start on the House novels.
I’m going to finish Winston Graham’s Ross Poldark and start on Demelza shortly (I’ve been enjoying the BBC/Masterpiece series, and so started on the book series.
and I have a few Star Trek novels on my shelf I haven’t read yet. Probably get into those when I have some junk food reading time.

Critical Mass by Sara Paretsky,
A V. I. Warshawski detective novel
My mom likes detective novels and I read them so we can discuss. I haven’t read any Sara Paretsky before, looking forward to it.
Moonglow by Michael Chabon
His earlier books amazed me, this is his most recent.
The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin
I’ve never read any of her books but the name has always been around at the back of my mind. Last week I ran across her name somewhere and added this to my list.
SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome by Mary Beard
I tend to read novels for year or two, then history for a year or two, then novels again, etc., etc. It looks like the pendulum is swing towards history again.
Right now I am reading Barbara Tuchman’s A Distant Mirror: The Calamitous 14th Century
We may not be in the best of times right now, but reading about the 1300s gives some perspective. A third of the population from India to Iceland was wiped out by the plague, and marauding bands of unemployed knights terrorized France. It’s bad like the 1940s, but for an entire century.
The Koran
The Bell Jar
Moby Dick
The Hobbit
1984
Neuromancer (started reading it three years ago and never finished)
Animal Farm
The Fault in Our Stars (I like the author and want to read his work)
I am going to catch up on missed old stuff, lots of Kathy Reich.
Death Du Jour
Grave secrets
Flash And Bones
Cross Bones
Spider Bones
I plan to read a lot more than four books! Perhaps, for simplicity’s sake, I will tell you the next four books I am intending to read…
Otherlands (Book #2 of the Acacia trilogy)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (working on #4 right now)
Star Wars trilogy (again)
Angels and Demons
@Seek…did you like the “first” Dune novels (the original first five or so)? I loved Dune, but couldn’t get into the other books. It was almost as if it was a different author writing them. I still have them, and keep telling myself that I am going to push through them, but every time I’ve tried, I end up only getting about a third of the way through the second one. Are the later books (by his son, I believe) any better? They look very interesting but I haven’t tried them yet.
@Call_Me_Jay…I have only read the Wizard fo Earthsea trilogy by Ursula LeGuin, but loved that!
@filmfann…have you not read The Hobbit before? Make sure to follow up with the LOTR trilogy after that. Those four books are my all time favorites.
I like the whole series up to Chapterhouse. Just can’t seem to get through that one.
Sometimes, I admit, Herbert can be fantastically naive about how women think, but that’s par for the course with 70s/80s science fiction.
I’ve been through most of House Corrino on audiobook, and like it so far, so I’m diving all in this year to get through the lot.
Hero with a Thousand Faces-Campbell
Economics-Krugman
The new Jack Reacher when it comes out
Likely something I am not even aware of at this moment.
A point of explanation on the Krugman textbook. I did my intro econ in the 1960s using Samuelson. Wanted to see how Krugman did in in 2008. I’ve kept current in my particular interest areas of econ…want to reconnect in the broader scope, since the entire underpinnings of the US economy are likely going to be well and truly fucked over in the next four years.
