Did you know that January 20th, 2017 is Penguin Awareness Day?
January 20th 2017 marks Penguin Awareness Day, a day dedicated to celebrating and protecting our favorite black and white flightless university librarians.
Fun Facts:
Penguins can drink salt water. They have specialized nasal glands that filter excess salt from their bloodstream, preventing hypertension
There are only an estimated 6,000 to 15,000 Galapagos penguins remaining, making them the world’s rarest penguin species.
BUT there are over 140,000 librarians in the United States and only one is a Penguin Librarian.
Can you dig up more penguin/librarian facts?
Happy Penguin Awareness Day Everybody.
Especially you, Jan.

Jan, I didn’t know there is a day for you :)
It’s an occasion much more worthy of my attention than the inauguration.
I appreciate our penguin every day!
Too bad that all eyes and most attention is going to be focused on the orange buzzard. Just like the obnoxious scavenger to foul up the day of glory properly assigned to our own indomitable penguin. The guy has no class at all. Let me cease my wailing and lamentations and revel in the magnificence of our resident bird.
I’d like to think I am aware of our penguin here in the lagoon. Very aware.
I did not know, but now I know. I hope they can be domesticated soon so we can have pet penguin.
I was not aware of this. Happy Penguin day! Let’s watch out for penguins out there.
Penguin vs Great White This little guy watches out for himself!
I’m very aware of the penguin
I’m glad they are having their day
I know lots of facts all about them
What they eat, how they live, where they stay.
But always I’m puzzled by one thing
This question just won’t go away
Those things by their sides are they flippers
Or wings that have seen atrophy?
Ooh ooh ooh! I was looking for something to celebrate today! 9Slides on belly down the stairs in joy!)
Thank you my dear flipperless friends!
@flutherother Atrophy?? Who would fly when they can slide and swim!
Try flapping harder and in a tail wind, you never know.
I am flying off somewhere tomorrow!
@rojo That was a great clip!
And then there’s this to watch out for.
What would you like for your day @janbb?
Mmmmm – sushi! And ice cream! And baked Alaska! And French fries.
Here you go. I can’t make the third one though :(
@Mimishu1995 Thanks you dear one. That will do for breakfast!
Haha, Penguin awareness day.
In honor of Penguins everywhere lets give this little guy a rousing round of applause.
@janbb Do you have a backpack you take to the fish market? lol

I guess after I eat some cheese to celebrate National Cheese Lovers Day I will then celebrate Take A Walk Outdoors Day. I can also film my cheese eating and walking to commemorate Camcorder day. lol
@Coloma Let’s not take the focus off the main subject of this day!
@janbb Okay, you shall remain Princess Penguin for a day.
Wanna go for a walk, but no cheese for you. ;-p
@Coloma I imagine we could waddle quite nicely together!
@janbb I shall down a bucket of raw sardines in your honor.
On the internet nobody knows you didn’t really eat the sardines.
@janbb Yep, flipper in wing, the goose and penguin go shopping. Fish for you and delicious bread for me. haha
I think I will waddle wherever I go today. I may also try a belly slide into the pool when I go for my swim (I hope the neighbours are watching!)
Just happened on this thread somehow. Brings up many bittersweet memories – particularly of the Crow.
