Is there a dollar amount Trump would resign for?

Asked by funkdaddy (17777points) February 2nd, 2017

As asked, half serious.

Some things to consider
– Trump has spent most of his life with the primary goal of acquiring value. He may value large sums of cash more than most.
– The job of President is about to get a lot harder, it can’t be 200 weeks of this same pace.
– Over 60 million people voted against him
– Some quick numbers: $20×60 million would be $1.2 Billion, $100 would be $6 Billion… those averages may be ambitious, but internationally there may be more people
– his estimated worth last year was ~$4 Billion
– Obviously the Presidency is worth something

Assuming there is a number that is “walking away money”, what’s the total?

No. He has enough money. Maybe he can be bought with power or fame. Or another Russian bride.

SergeantQueen's avatar

No. He’s already shown that he doesn’t care about his personal financial gain.

Coloma's avatar

No. He has plenty of money, he is after power and control, his money is only a part of his ginormous ego needs which are insatiable as he is a confirmed malignant narcissist.
He’s all about ego.

Strauss's avatar

He’s more about power than wealth.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

No he is having fun playing god right now, check back if it becomes hard or boring for him then you might get a dollar amount but not right now.

SergeantQueen's avatar

He’s having too much fun making America great again.

So let’s say theoretically, a year from now, approval rating is hanging about 30–35%, things have slowed down, and it looks like one or both houses of Congress might flip in the midterm elections.

No one thinks an escrow account with $2 billion might be more appealing than 3 more years?

“Hey, we won. America is on the right path and Mike has it from here. Great guy, the best. I’m going to head back to New York and look at new opportunities in media. They’re lying to you and I’m going to show them how it’s done. But I’ll never stop fighting for you, the American people.”

Or something like that? I think it could work.~

If there is such a sum, there is little to be gained from speculating on it.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

We could start a Go Fund Me account. What figure shall we put in? If we reach it and he doesn’t take it, we can donate it to some of the people being hurt by his presidency.

Patty_Melt's avatar

I swear, you people got your teeth deep in a bone, and growling, and wouldn’t let go if somebody gave you steak.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

Or perhaps you’ve got your head in the clouds @Patty_Melt?

Money is an obstacle to Trump…he’s not even taking the salary a President is allowed…...fame is priceless and he has it in spades.

jca's avatar

I don’t think Trump actually thought he’d become President. I think he ran as a publicity stunt and then it gained momentum and he “ran with it.” He doesn’t need the money and he doesn’t seem too bright (didn’t know who Frederick Douglass was) and he’s sure as hell not diplomatic. He was talking about not wanting to stay at the White House much. I think he is probably more comfortable on 5th Avenue or Mar a lago. I’m betting this is a whole bunch of headaches for him.

elbanditoroso's avatar

No, because whatever is offered, he would want more.

I don’t think he can be bought.

Darth_Algar's avatar

The presidency has a value that goes beyond money.

@Cruiser

“he’s not even taking the salary a President is allowed”

He is. He might say he’s not (that kinda shit plays well with voters), but he is. There’s no mechanism for the president to decline his salary.

Pachy's avatar

Nope. Ego and need for control are more important to him than gold. It’s gonna take Civil War II to get him out.

Darth_Algar's avatar

“It’s gonna take Civil War II to get him out.

Or election day. Or the expiration of his term.

Cruiser's avatar

@Darth_Algar You are indeed correct that Trump will have to take his salary but I expect he will donate it to a charity in the same spirit Hoover and Kennedy did before him.

zenvelo's avatar

All it would really take to get Trump to resign is for him to be accepted by the old guard Manhattan society, what they used to call The Four Hundred.

It galls him beyond measure that he will never be accepted into real New York society, that they consider him a tasteless huckster from Queens, that he went to Wharton to learn how to be a building super.

It will never happen.

Darth_Algar's avatar

@Cruiser

Whatever he chooses to do with the $400k/year is, of course, entirely up to him, but that’s a bit different from not accepting it.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

No and he doesn’t need the money. He just wanted the nuclear code.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

That is a very scary thought^^
For someone like Trump to have that a man that doesn’t seem to have a diplomatic bone in his body, an ego maniac , and a pure bully wow .
But the right wing red necks just love him, cause he tells it like it is.

cinnamonk's avatar

God I wish. I’d chip in to make it happen.

imrainmaker's avatar

He might settle for a big plot on the Moon I guess..)

imrainmaker's avatar

Do they change the nuclear code every time the president changes.!??)

SergeantQueen's avatar

@imrainmaker Nuclear launch codes are put on a plastic card, in columns. The codes can’t be seen unless a plastic opaque covering is snapped in half. The codes are generated daily and half the codes on the card are false.
(BTW as a fun fact, during a false alarm of a (potential) nuclear attack against America, United States National Security Advisor, Zbigniew Brzezinski had 3 minutes to decide if he wanted to inform the president, who in turn would have 4 minutes to decide what to do.)

cinnamonk's avatar

@SergeantQueen that’s super interesting. How did you know that? (About the launch codes.)

Coloma's avatar

@SergeantQueen Well lets hope that both of them aren’t sitting on the toilet when that goes down.

SergeantQueen's avatar

@AnonymousAccount8 Well, I read about it somewhere a while ago. The part about the National Security Advisor was in an interview with Zbigniew Brzezinski.

It’s crazy to me how a decision to launch a nuclear attack in retaliation, which will kill thousands of people, is reduced to just minutes. It’s also strange that they don’t have to even inform the president of the attack, right when it happens.

Cruiser's avatar

@Darth_Algar from the get go Trump has said he will not take the prez salary and has admitted he might have to at least take a dollar per year….what or when he does with 400 grand is chump change compared to what he is now entrusted with. IMO divesting ones salary is a good start to filling in the debt canyon Barry left us.

funkdaddy's avatar

@Cruiser – do you really think the deficit or national debt were a product of Obama, or is that just a bit of hyperbole?

Cruiser's avatar

@funkdaddy I believe our deficit was and is the direct result of a punch drunk Congress. We keep re-electing these Bozo’s who vote to raise our debt ceilings. It’s not their money…party on Garth…

funkdaddy's avatar

Would $400k even pay back taxes for 2015 if Trump paid the same rates as any small business owner?

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@funkdaddy Someone thinks Obama is the Bozo but in a few years we will know we were the Bozos.

How much is the security cost per day, for wife and child living in NY?

Just think you could have had Ted Cruz

SamiCYa's avatar

Considering Trump has decided to only accept $1 of the normal payment for the position of president, I don’t really think there is one.

Darth_Algar's avatar

As I said above – he can’t actually decline the salary. Him saying otherwise, or saying he’ll only accept $1, is a line of bullshit that plays well with voters. What he does with it once it’s in his pocket is, of course, up to him, but he can’t not accept it.
