What is gnocchi supposed to taste like?

They taste bland, sour and very gummy. Is this right?
I’ve never eaten them before.
I boiled them for the amount of time the directions said to, five minutes. I plan on making a sauce for them, maybe they’ll taste better.
Should I boil them longer next time?
