My favorite seems to be ever-changing. This week, I’d go with Augustana. Last year, it was Switchfoot. Lifetime, it has to be U2.

Top 3 of all time…

1. The Smiths
2. The Velvet Underground
3. DMB

I love alternative brit-pop from the 80s to the present. I’d say that’s my favorite genre of music.

Brand New, Forever The Sickest Kids, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Metro Station, The Used, Cute Is What We Aim For, Silverstien, Say Anything, Lucero, The Almost, From Autumn To Ashes, The Pink Spiders, Senses Fail and The Academy Is…

Of course there are a ton of others. But I’m getting tired if typing. And yeah, I have a lot of favorites.

I honestly listen to everything from rock, hip hop, rap, country, classical, jazz, alternative, folk to whatever else you can name. Music is one of my biggest passions.

I’m completely into rock. Straight up rock. I can’t stand the new music scene, with whiny ass lead singers, and bands that don’t know their instruments. That said, here are my top 5 bands:

1. Velvet Revolver
2. Guns N’ Roses
3. Stone Temple Pilots
4. Aerosmith
5. Led Zeppelin

Ignore Dashboard Confessional. That was what I put up with to have sex with my ex-girlfriend.

wrestlemaniac's avatar

Good after noon peoples! Dalepetrie you are one hell of a music man! :) Rock on! oh and I love the beatles, do you know any specific songs by them.

dalepetrie's avatar

Do I know any specific songs by the Beatles? I have everything they ever did on my Zune, what do you want to know?

dalepetrie's avatar

Fiona Apple, AMAZING live by the way.

wrestlemaniac's avatar

what’s your favorite song by them?

dalepetrie's avatar

That’s a tough one, I have to think about it, essentially with every album they were like a different band, their music matured, particularly in ‘66, so at least I think of them as two different bands. I love the early poppier Beatles stuff even though it didn’t say much, but the later stuff was so impressive, it brought music to another level. I’m going to say Abbey Road is my favorite album, but my favorite song….let me think about that one.

wrestlemaniac's avatar

I like Let it be.

dalepetrie's avatar

OK, thought about it, I have an answer

“Because”

I really like what they did with the song on the Love soundtrack, making it 100% a capella.

dalepetrie's avatar

Can’t go wrong with Let it Be, I’ll grant you that. I don’t think there’s a Beatles song I don’t like, and I’m not sure I can say that about ANY other band

wrestlemaniac's avatar

oops, thanks tinyfaery, didn’t relize, my bad, :(

tinyfaery's avatar

No problem. I’m of the vein that questions can be asked more than once given that a certain amount of time has elapsed. With all the new people, it might be a good time to repeat the question. :)

wrestlemaniac's avatar

thanks for the advice :)

wrestlemaniac's avatar

AFI? Who are those guys again?

wilhel1812's avatar

So what songs or albums do you like form the hives? are you a fan?

wrestlemaniac's avatar

never heard of the hives.

dalepetrie's avatar

I like all the Hives’ albums…got into them when Veni Vidi Vicious came out, loved Hate To Say I Told You So.

If you’re heard the Sears commercial where they have a song playing the background that goes “woo hoo…well alright”, that’s the Hives. Two Timing Touch and Broken Bones was a great one. I thought the Black and White album was the second best album of 2007.

I’m a big fan, saw them live back in February with the Donnas, who coincidentally had what I think was the BEST album of 2007 (Bitchin). I was right up in the front row at First Avenue in Minneapolis…one hell of a show.

wrestlemaniac's avatar

lucky you, i’ve never been to a concert.

dalepetrie's avatar

Seriously? Wow, you got to get out there more. Of course, I live in the Twin Cities which has a killer live music scene…everyone comes here. I have a ticket album with about 100 stubs, I think I’ve seen about 500 different bands play live.

wrestlemaniac's avatar

well i’m not that lucky, and well there are some complications.

wilhel1812's avatar

I like Veni Vidi Vicious and Tyrannosaurus Hives, not such a big fan of the Black And White album… i like old hives much better. I hope they go back to creating what they think sound good, and not just what sells…

And what complications keep you away from concerts, wrestlemaniac?

wrestlemaniac's avatar

money and transport.

dalepetrie's avatar

Keep your ear to the ground, I’ve gotten into tons of shows for free

wilhel1812's avatar

Well, transport is about money, so bacsicly it’s all about the money.
But for me, it’s still worth the money for the really big concerts and festivals. small concerts are often free. but all in all it depends on how much it means for you and how much you are willing to pay.

wrestlemaniac's avatar

maybe in the future i’ll be able to go to as many concerts as i want, but time will tell.

Randy's avatar

@wilhwl- The smaller ones are way better. You don;t have the crowd to fight and the performance is way more intimate. The band will usually hang out with the crowd at smaller shows too!

wilhel1812's avatar

Yeah but it’s two completely different things.Think of big shows like Metallica and Iron Maiden with all the special effects. And there’s something special when 50 000 people sings “Fear of the Dark”. you dont get that stuff on small gigs. however i agree with what you say about the small gigs, getting your stuff signed, meeting your idols and stuff is always nice.
