Did you once suck your thumb, what was your method, and for how long did you do it?

I did. I don’t remember when I stopped, but it was probably considered “late.”

I think it helped me sleep? I don’t know why I did it….

My dog has dreams about suckling (she mimicks the act while sleeping.) I think she’s dreaming about being a puppy. Which is odd because I “rescued” her when she was only weeks old…

Neverrrrr. I was always told it would ruin my teeth. I had a good friend who was a thumb sucker and her teeth stuck out.

Yeah. I had some “buck teeth” for awhile. A few fights pushed them back into a semi normal position. Getting punched in the mouth isn’t all bad…

I’m now reminded that I too had buck teeth (awful expression), probably caused by thumb sucking but corrected in my early teens by braces.

Never did.

1. Put thumb in mouth.
2. Suck until you are done.

I did it now and again in bed as a kid, but to be honest I didn’t really like it. The thumb was just next to my mouth.

@Pachy I used to suck my thumb. I had a doll bunting (garment) which had a bit of ribbon tie at the neck. I held the bunting and in thumb-sucking and hand rubbed the ribbon across my upper lip while I sucked my thumb. Until I was 6. Then decided if I was old enough to go to school I could/should stop sucking my thumb.

@si3tech, for me, it was a bit of the pillowcase—but I can’t quite recreate the way I held it. Probably just as well. ;-)

I never did. My oldest did, though. She’d suck her thumb and twirl her hair. When she was 5 I told her that if she could go for one month without sucking her thumb I’d let her get her ears pierced. So she did, and I did, and we were done.

I don’t think that I did. I had a pacifier, which I outgrew fairly young (or maybe my parents took it off of me, which sounds likely) and then I was a nail biter for 30 years, but I don’t recall any habitual thumb sucking. I did the hair twirling/finger tangled in my hair thing well into my childhood, too.

Not me but my sister used to do it..she finally stopped doing it..I don’t remember when she did.

I sucked my thumb when I was very young and I have a dim memory of doing it. It was in the period between giving up my dummy and going to school.

My 10 year old still sucks her thumb. Only at night and never in front of anyone.

I too had a dummy (pacifier). I remember my parents saying I was too old for it but I missed it like crazy. One day I got hold of some money and bought one but it had lost its magic. I must have been about 4 as it was before I was at school

I used to chew my Atari joystick until I was 9.
