What is this sound design example?

Asked by ameliaclare (61points) February 24th, 2017

I watched a video of an example of how sound design in movies work. I can’t remember what it was, but it showed someone jumping into a pool and then the designer reversed the sound and made it lower etc. etc. Let me know if you’ve seen it!

Yes. They are called Foley Artists. My ex was a sound engineer for a while.

Foley artists go back to the early days of sound recording for movies. Foley artists are responsible for everything from the “poke”, “bonk” and “slap” associated with the slapstick shorts of the Three Stooges and Andy Clyde to the crunch of the punch in the “Rocky” movies, and even the sounds made by Light Sabres and phasers in space oddysseys.
