It’s just like Fluther. You ask a question and real people answer it for you. It seems to be more popular, but I don’t use it. It’s more similar to Quora than Fluther is, most people on ask jelly seem to be interested in answering questions only, and not learning about other people in friendly ways.

^ This.
I used it a few times, but got bored of it quickly.

It’s rather striking just how quickly I abandoned the place. I find the icon perpetually hanging there easy to ignore as life drags immutably on.

I find it slightly annoying. It’s like a super-shallow-water version of Fluther, where bored people waiting for a bus using their mobile devices text in short questions which usually have very little context or thought behind them, and people offer answers usually with a similar level of attention/mindfulness. Of course, I generally dislike most things designed for mobile phones. And I have little patience for lite questions and lite answers. Most of my answers there have been inspired by an impulse to post something snarky and/or aloof.

For example, I see one right now “what video game should i play?”... As usual, there is ZERO information about who is asking or what the context is. So I think they should play Lunar Lander, because I want them to be frustrated not being able to find that 1979 coin-op, or to experience falling like a rock and exploding or failing horribly, as is the usual experience for new players, which somehow feels appropriate.

i.e. Most of the questions seem incomplete, or inane, unanswerable, ignorant, etc., and more often than not it tends to trigger me.

Something that is worthless to me.

It doesn’t have the same standards as Fluther. Almost half of the questions over yonder don’t even start with a capital letter. I think there are a lot of youngsters there.

Oh, the other thing that drives me nuts about Ask Jelly is that sometimes the Submit button doesn’t seem to do anything, so I click it multiple times, and then it posts the same answer each time, silently, so it makes me spam the site, and there’s no way to delete my own duplicate answers. I used to think that was because I had AdBlock on, but now I don’t and it just did it to me again. So annoying! They should really check for duplicate answers and not let you just spam the same answer accidentally like that!

I don’t know. I pretty much just ignore it. Where did it come from?

Zaku's avatar

@rojo It seems to be a recent-ish project by (some of?) the same folks who created Fluther.

I’m an ACTUAL jelly user, with 250+ helpful answers. I found jelly and thought it looked cool, and it has helped me and I have helped so many. Anyway, jelly could be described as Twitter with questions, only short and quick with a character limit and a picture, and showed to people who are interested in that topic. Then those people can reply or share those questions. Back to the beginning, Jelly was bought by Pinterest and is being shut down as far as anyone knows. Coming here so maybe I can continue spreading knowledge, and maybe see a few old friends.
