How would you pronounce the word "yea"?
I always hear “yay” like “all those in favor say yay, opposed say nay,” or “yee”. I have a friend who frequently uses “yea” to mean “ya,” or “yeah.” It throws me a little!

Probably like “Yeah.” Hard to say. It looks like it should rhyme with pea.
Yes. That’s what I hear too. Good comparison @kritiper. “Here yea hear yea!”
Like yeah, as in okay or I agree. I prefer adding the h.
“Yay.”
As in “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…”
@Dutchess_III I pronounce it like “yeah”. Like the “e” sounds in the word beverage. Or bevy. Or the “e” sounds in “yes”. With the same meaning as yes.
Yea should be pronounced YAY
Hear ye should be pronounced HEER YEE
I hear “yea” like “pea,” like what @kritiper said.
Well, how should “yae” be pronounced then?
I always figure it’s someone misspelling yeah or yay. And, when I say misspelling, I mean how I spell it, not that I’m necessarily correct. Lol. I look at the context and figure out what they mean.
When I see it at first glance, I see yeah without the h, and pronounce it that way in my head.
Edit: just adding that what @Seek wrote about the quote “yea, though I walk…” is pronounced like yay, but it isn’t the exclamation “yay!” Meaning, super fantastic! As far as I know, and that’s how I see yea used. It looks wrong to me, but I really don’t know if it is.
Depends on context. Some people just spell “yeah” that way (annoyingly) so if they clearly mean “yeah” I’ll pronounce it that way in my head. But in the context of like “yea or nay” I pronounce it like “yay.”
yeh. is how I hear the written word.
@Dutchess_III Yae probably should not be used at all, unless speaking to people in Scotland. I think it’s also pronounced YAY.
It’s “yay”, as @Seek wrote.
A lot of people use “yea” when they mean “yeah”.
Also, a lot of people don’t know how to spell “whoa”. For some reason, I put these misspellings in the same category.
Yeeah?
I’m so confused right now….
I say it like yeah.
Yay is said like yay.
Like Yeah but without the H.

Yea is an actual word, as in “please vote yea or nay” or “yea, verily” or “yet the impression, yea the evidence, is inescapable”, and is pronounced YAY.
But as @dappled_leaves pointed out, some people don’t know how to spell some common spoken words that aren’t often written except in dialog (or texting, chats etc where misspellings are at least as common as correct spellings), and many may write “yea” when they are thinking “yeah”.
Yea. That’s what I’m thinking, because it’s used in place of “yeah.”
It is, but I think it’s also always a (minor, cosmetic) mistake to write yea for yeah, at least in formal writing. Because in the dictionary you will not find the meaning of yeah under yea, and if you write yea for yeah, then if you ever want to write yea, there’s no way to tell you didn’t mean yeah.
It drives me a little crazy when she does it, to tell the truth! She’s not a reader.
^^If a friend does it constantly maybe let her know it’s incorrect. I’m not saying you should, just saying you could if you think she might want to know.
I don’t think she’d appreciate the correction. She’s insecure. I do make a point of typing “Yeah,” whenever it’s appropriate and I know she’ll see it.
@Dutchess_III Try working the phrase “Yea or nay” into every conversation, and maybe she’ll pick up on it.
Actually, no, don’t do that. Just tell her. Facts are fun!
LOL! No. It would not go well if I just told her!
