Any California jellies familiar with the Anza-Borrego State Park wildflowers?

Asked by LostInParadise (32163points) March 4th, 2017

I just came across this article and the pictures are breathtaking. The article says they are expecting a banner year because of all the recent precipitation. If I lived near San Diego, I would drive the two hours to catch the display.

This year all of the California desert areas ( Joshua Tree, Death Balley, Palm Springs, Anna-Borrego) are expected to have incredible displays? Worth a few days driving around southeastern California if you have the time and money for a vacation!

Yes, I have been to Anza Borrego many times over the years when I lived in Sand Diego.
As @zenvelo said, this should be an amazing bloom year. A banner year for allergies too, mine are exploding up here in the Sierra Foothills right now, man I am dying. haha

I’m not familiar with it, but then again, I’ve only been down to San Diego a handful of times. It looks absolutely beautiful, though, and as someone who enjoys photographing flowers, especially California native flowers, I would love to see this.

A cousin took his daughters and grand kids to see the flowers in his last years. He knew his time was short and that was on his list of things to do.

I grew up in San Diego and was (still am) a desert rat. I’ve been to Anza lots.

Here is a NY Times video of the bloom.

I was surprised at how large some of the plants are.

Turns out that the flowers have attracted moth caterpillars, that are in turn attracting hawks.
