When I'm bored in class I pick at the scab on my arm even know it needs to heal. How can I stop?
I cut myself three months ago and I’ve just been picking at it ever since. I’m at risk for infection and if I do get an infection, I’m not going to be happy.

@elbanditoroso I always end up taking band-aids off. They make my skin red and itchy.
Get a different type of band-aid, you might be allergic to the type you are using. Use a cotton bandage held in place with something like an ace bandage or a stretch netting.
Put a bandage on it that is awkward to remove. If you’re embarrassed wear long sleeves.
You are probably allergic to latex. Use a fabric bandage.
Look up “Alternatives to adhesive bandages” Tegaderm is a store bought variety, but it’s expensive.
My daughter an RN, is highly allergic to adhesives, so much so that it can quickly become an emergency if she’s exposed. She keeps Tegaderm in her purse at all times.
I suggest you stop using adhesive bandages immediately. You don’t want your problems to escalate faster than they need to.
Given your other questions here recently I would say this behavior ties in with your overall anxiety and other emotional disturbances due to your past traumas. Are you seeking mental health intervention for all of these issues? That is really your highest choice. Best wishes to you.
Fidgeting in general is not a bad thing, but, it can accompany other symptoms more serious, and sometimes can be destructive.
There are fidget tools on market. I just learned of this recently. At my daughter’s request, I purchased what is called a fidget cube online a few days ago. It was only a dollar, and she is hopeful it will keep her from being disruptive in class.
They are easy to find on ebay. I don’t know where else they are sold, but I hear they are common.
It is not something to solve your immediate issue, maybe, but if picking is an ongoing thing for you, it might help.
You have lots of good advise above. You could be allergic to latex, that is common. It could also be an allergy to the adhesive in which case you would want to go with the stretchy wrap bandage suggestion.
Good luck with this. I am 62 and still do it from time to time. And, not even when I am bored; it just happens without malice or forethought….......... or insight as to why.
