Would you go to see how it turns out the minute it happens, or would you hide until it's all over?
We’ve been working on selling our RV for a couple of months now. It’s going up for auction on Saturday. This is so important to me, and it’s so nerve wracking, I don’t even want to be there. I want to go some place and hide and wait for Rick’s text. When I get it I can take a deep breath and prepare myself for whatever, for however long I need to before I open it.
I don’t normally hide, but I can’t stand the suspense and my being there serves no purpose and can’t affect the outcome at all.
So, would you go, or would you hide? Why?

I thought a crazy woman driver bought it.
If I can’t affect an outcome, I try to detach myself and focus on something else, to avoid stressing and spinning wheels or even messing things up through nervous misadventure. I’d rather have someone else handle it and tell me the result. It still might be distracting, but if I can’t help and it’s going to bother me, I feel it’s better to be as uninvolved as I can.
No. We sold her our SUV…a truck, @chyna. I can’t even begin to imagine her driving this! And I certainly wouldn’t have gone with her!!
Oh my God! Exactly @Zaku.
When in an eBay auction I check every 15 minutes. More when the last 15 minutes then I am refreshing every 15 seconds.
Well, yeah. If I was the one bidding, of course I’d be there!
Personally i’d hide that piece of shit hillbilly wagon, no, i’d go further & burn it.
That was uncalled for @ucme.
I’m not goin’ roller skating! That would kill me today. My body can’t tolerate slamming into walls like it used to.
I think I’ll call a friend and we can go hang out somewhere and drink beer.
Roller skating would keep you too distracted to obsess on it.
@Patty_Melt the last time I went roller skating was at one of my grandson’s birthday party about 10 years ago. I used to be a wild thing on skates, when I was in middle school and high school. I was very good. The last time I went, though, 10 years ago, I quickly realized it was probably foolish of me. You’re just gong to have to take my word for it that I can’t handle the punishment or falling and crashing any more.
Okay.
Go photograph some cops and firefighters for a charity calender.
If you are anxious about this thing, you don’t want to go. You would explode. Ick, what a mess!
Do something to totally take your mind off.
I already know I’m not going. I told you I’m gonna call a friend and hang out and talk and drink! Or maybe I’ll go see some grandkids.
I just wondered if there are situations where other people kind of hide out too.
Just sleep and do your regular activities. I believe you have discussed with your husband about the expected range price so you’ll have the rough idea of the possible outcome.
Why so anxious? What’s the worst that can happen? Isn’t there a minimum bid below which you cannot be forced to sell And aren’t you allowed to determine that minimum? It sounds like you and your Rick have diligently worked to bring the RV up to spiffy specs. What’s left?
Oh yeah. We set a minimum. I’m just nervous. It could for 10, it could go for 30! I could not go at all. I really want just enough to pay the loan we have on another camper (11) but wouldn’t it be cool to get much more?
Yes. Is there some sort of blue book comparison?
Oh, it’s all over the board, really. I mean, it’s a 95. There are places like this that we’ve looked. I see one, same as ours, a 1995, for $25,000. Then there is a year newer, for $12,500.
Update. Went for $9,000. Could have been better, could have been worse, but the shit is DONE! After auction fees that will still leave us with ~$3,000 to pay on our new camper, and I can live with that.
If we didn’t have the new camper to pay off, I might have just hung on to the RV for a while. It books out at about $13,000, so I heard.
I’m happy. So relieved. But someone got a good deal, and apparently they were really, really excited, so I’m happy for them.
Oh oh! More good news. When we went to sign the title with the owner of the auction, he said instead of charging the normal 10% fee, which would have been $900, he was only going to charge the minimum of $250, which is what we would have had to pay if it hadn’t sold. He just volunteered it, because he really expected it to go for 10 – 12. That made my day!
