Shall we say a fond farewell to Don Rickles?
He had a big heart, but even bigger mouth.
Don Rickles died of kidney failure thursday morning.
He was Mr. Potatoe Head, CPO Sharkey, and worked with many comedy greats.
He appeared in numerous tv shows, variety shows, and some movies. He had a long running career.
So long, Mr. Warmth.

I remember him from his crowning cinematic achievement, the 1990 blockbuster keaton’s cop, starring Lee Majors.
The man was an original, an insult machine, and a hockey puck. Rest in peace sir.
Used to see him regularly when Johnny Carson had The Tonight Show. In spite of the “insult comic” persona, he was truly a warm, caring man.
And he was very funny!
I have a friend who paid a lot of money to be seated stage-side, so that he might get insulted by Rickles.
Don did walk over to him, and said “What’s your name, kid?”
My friend answered (truthfully): “Fred Zelkowitz”. Rickles dropped the microphone, and walked to the other side of the stage.
I never got it. I guess I was too much of a goody-goody to like his insults and badgering of audience members.
He was amazingly quick and could ad lib in a millisecond – but it always seemed nasty to me.
I found him to be rude and mean-spirited and not funny. I’m sorry for his family though.
I agree with @Kardamom I was never a D.R. fan but..RIP Mr. Rickles.
He’s with Joan Rivers now.
