What is Diamagnetism?

Asked by Brian_Ghilliotti (328points) April 12th, 2017 from iPhone

My understanding is that magnetism is the result of an atom with an unpaired electron orbiting in its outer electron cloud. This unpaired electron seeks out another unpaired electron orbiting in the outer orbital cloud of another atom(s), resulting in physical magnetic attraction. What goes on with electrons at the atomic level with diamagnetism?

The problem with Wikipedia is that it either is too technical for the average person, or it does not go into enough detail and depth (especially with history questions).

Right, well there isn’t really a non-technical way to answer the question.
