There's a quarter sized hole that was cut out on the bottom of a wall in our condo, I assume a cable was run through but what kind of cable?

It’s on the far bottom on the other side of my room, next to the front door. I assume a cable of some sort was run through. The hole was there when we moved in, presumably done by the previous tenants.
If you have one internet connection, why would you need a hole like that to run a cable through? I’m not really tech savvy so sorry if it’s a stupid question.

Maybe there were more things in that room, like a tv, personal/house computer, internet, etc so they all needed to take a lot of cables to take through the wall, hence a bigger hole.
Or, it wasn’t for the cable at all, but for something else.
Just saying, I may be wrong. I’ve no idea how it looks like.
I have not a single clue what that hole could’ve been used for. Pretty sure it wasn’t created by an animal, looks perfectly round, so I’m certain it was done by human hands.
Hard to know, but my guess would be a couple of coaxial cables, coming from the cable or satellite connection might have had two cables – one for cable internet and one for the video signal. I know that in my house, there is a splitter in the crawlspace, and two cables come out of the wall.
They could have run CAT5 from the cable router to set up a wireless router in a different location of the home, or used CAT5 for a direct connection from a PC/Laptop back to the router. Or they could have ran a cable to a WiFi extender to bolster a weak wireless signal. Or, the could have ran a Coax cable for connecting another TV for cable. Or the hole could have been used to snake any kind of wire, an electrical plug or smoke detector for example. Look in the area near to this hole for more clues. There are several possibilities.
Pet mice? You know, like a doggie door, but little.
We’ve had wireless routers in our house for over ten years, but I remember running Cat5 cable through a similar hole for a wired network connection in a different room from the cable router.
It appears this hole is the only one in the condo.
Thanks guys. Sorry, like I said, I’m not an expert in this stuff. I think you helped cleared up this mystery.
I vote for a Cat 5 Ethernet cable that went to an older model security camera installed by a previous tenant.
I had one in my old condo I used for everything from cat 5, coax to ham radio feedlines. It was likely used for cables
Security camera makes sense, since the hole is near the front door, maybe they monitored the camera from my room.
That would have been state of the art about 10 years ago. By 5 years ago most everything went wireless.
For about $1, you can buy a plug for that hole at Lowe’s or similar hardware store. Don’t make it easy for critters to get in.
I live in an old house. There is a hole like that for a land line phone.
Quarter size?? Can’t explain the location, but a hole that big might be just right for an electrical extension cord.
These condos were built in 2002.
