Do you read the thread before answering?

I have trouble reading the wall-o-text sometimes. I do my best to read the details.

If the details are endless I tend to just skim them and from time to time that does get me into trouble, but most times I do try to read the whole question to get the angle the asker is coming from.

I think you guys may be misunderstanding the Q. As I read it, @Hawaii_Jake is asking if we read the thread, not just the details, before answering.

I try to @Hawaii_Jake, unless it’s sort of a poll. The discussion is part of the fun for me.

Apparently some people don’t even bother reading the question itself. ;-o

I always read the thread, and I’m wondering if I’ll be the only one who answers the OP.

I usually read the thread but not necessarily every time. It sometimes depends on how interested I am in the whole discussion and sometimes just how quick I want to get my quip down.

You’re right @canidmajor I did misunderstand what he was saying and for an answer I try to unless it’s a huge winded answer at which time my eyes glaze over and I usually skip those but for the most part yes I do read the thread(answers).

More often (too often) than not, I will answer the question then read through the thread. Redundancy

It depends on the topic. Sometimes I do read to see what’s already been said to ensure I’m not just repeating what others have said. Sometimes I don’t want the influence of earlier answers and I answer off-the-bat and then read what other people posted. If it’s a long thread, and not an overly complicated topic, I may skim the thread and then answer.

Edit. I didn’t read the thread for this Q and just answered off-the-bat and now I’m seeing quite a few posts that suggest some people obviously don’t read the thread or the question in full :D

I usually read the full details, even if they’re long and involved, and I usually read the whole thread first.

Occasionally I will answer immediately for various reasons. Sometimes I’ll answer first, and read later if I have the exact answer that I want to give. I always mention that I’m answering first, and reading everyone else’s answers afterward, but I always read the details before answering.

I read the thread, but not as intensely as when I read the details. I usually skim the thread to get the general idea of the discussion and see if my idea has already been mentioned. I will stop to read everything in details when I see that the discussion isn’t what it’s supposed to be or is heated enough for an entertaining read. Otherwise I will just fastforward and only read the most interesting response.

I read the thread, but if it is some simple question like, “What do the clouds outside your window right now look like?” and an answer uses a bunch of hoity toity words, I skip it.
Sometimes a question needs a long detailed response, sometimes, “turtle” will suffice.

Many questions have so amny answers that I do not have time to read them. I just answers questions generally. A gang of Lunatic Left brainwashed zombies is stalking and harassing me. They tell insulting lies about me. Thy should get a life and not spend so much time in harassment.

Gosh, @SimpatichnayaZhopa we all are not involved in your issues here. In fact, you made no impression on me until you started ranting about being harassed and stalked. I have no doubt that people disagreed with you, but I doubt anyone “stalked” you. If we are notified when there is new activity on any question we are following (this one, for example), and people respond to other posters’ remarks, that does not mean people are “stalking”. If you have serious concerns about this, contact the mods and cite the places that you feel the ” gang of Lunatic Left brainwashed zombies” has specifically targeted you.

Free speech does not cover slander, false accusations, lying insults, inciting riots or crimes, etc. I should have a right to answer all questions without being libeled. Conspiracy is a felony I hear.

Well, what you have described here does not remotely meet the criteria of “conspiracy”, nor is conspiracy, in and a f itself, a felony.
Like I said, contact the mods with specifics, and they can help you.

By the way, “libelous” also doesn’t apply here, unless your anonymity has been compromised and the accusations can be proved to affect you negatively (beyond upsetting you) like affecting your livelihood or safety.

If other users are sending you harassing private messages, contact the mods. If you think the posts from other users are grossly inappropriate, contact the mods.

But as you recognize that you have the right to disagree with some points of view, recognize that others have the right to disagree with you.

Calling people names is childish, and diminishes your credibility.

It se3ems to be a conspiracy with so many people telling the same insulting lies. Conspiracy to commit even a misdemeanor is a felony. You are not an attorney. Oh, dear. @SimpatichnayaZhopa, you are in no danger here, your lifelihood and/or personal safety are not endangered here. This is not libel, this does not constitute the legal definition of conspiracy. Your understanding of how the law works vis à vis anonymous Internet sites is flawed.

Hah… I think I understand what they mean by “stalking”. At one point some of us talked about their previous response on other threads to point out how they contradicted themselves. That’s probably their definition of stalking.

I’m sorry but it’s not remotely close to stalking. All the information we gathered from you came straight from the horse’s mouth. Everything you typed on here is visible to anyone coming to this site, not to mention search engine. You gave information about yourself consensually, then call anyone who repeats the same things you said a stalker.

You can’t walk into a party and shout “I still sleep with teddy bears at night” then get angry when days later someone says “hey is that you who still sleep with teddy bears at night?” If you are just here to make a fool out of us, you fail in so many levels.

Maybe one of the Mods would like to trot on over here and see what all the ruckus is about.

If @SimpatichnayaZhopa is in fact being “stalked” behind the scenes, then those people can be spoken too. If he/she is only complaining and doesn’t like the way this site works, then maybe the Mods can explain privately, and publicly, how the site does work.

So far, I haven’t seen any evidence of “public stalking”, just folks giving their opinions.

OK, here’s the deal: you make a PM for the mods telling the names of every single person who “stalked” and “insulted” you and linking to the threads where they do such things to you and ask them to delete their accounts for you. If what you are saying is true, then all those people are clearly violating the rules of this site and they all deserve to be banned.

Do it for your own sake. You are a real sage and you don’t deserve all the harassment on your quest to enlighten the naive Left.
