Have there been major changes in Fluther site over the years that you're aware of?

Not while I’ve been contributing here. People have spoken of changes that took place before I became a member of this site.

We didn’t have sections when I first joined. All questions were on the same page. We now have General, Social and Meta.

When I joined in December, 2009 there were General and Meta sections. Social was added shortly after that.

There was a transient Federated section, but apparently it hasn’t returned for quite awhile now.

10K parties were moved to the Meta section in January, 2010.

Up until February, 2010 there was no link to the Meta section when you were looking at a Meta question.

Until early 2010, there used to be 6 chat rooms linked to the Chat button. Now there are 3.

There was a wonderful mod who was “Leader of the Mods” who shan’t be named, due to the rules of the site. She was cool and a friend and did her modding with a delicate lash of the whip. When she left, new leadership seemed more harsh at the time and it seemed like the site was going in a different direction.

I miss the Big A.

I am too new to witness much change, but I can see that there are fewer members than when I joined. It was in 2013 and there was more activities back then.

I think there used to be a “discussion” section instead of the “social” section. I may be making this up, but I think it was a section where people could start “discussions” whether or not they were in question format? And general was, I think, more strictly “questions only” and was generally expected to have more serious answers…. Honestly, I’m fuzzy on the distinctions of “discussion v. general” anymore. I’ve known the “social” section version of the site far longer by now… I went on a bit of a hiatus and when I came back, the “discussions” section had been replaced. But looking at what the other jellies have said about the sections shifting, “discussions” may have had a short life span?

Were you here when @Mariah joined @PhiNotPi on site maintenance, and they asked for a few suggestions on what to improve? I can’t remember how long ago that was anymore. But anyway there were a few tweaks/touch-ups from that.

The awards and the “Questions for You” both used to work, aha… Phi’s been chasing that/those bug(s) for a while now, off and on… Or anyway they will sometimes start working for a period of time and then stop again. I don’t know the whole backstory there.

That’s all I know, or all I can think of right now. I joined late 2009 and have had been absent for a few of the intervening years.
