No. It should return to an absolutist monarchy.
They have sort of done this already.
What would be the point? The royals amount to little more . than expensive pets. And the closer to the throne the poor inbred buggers are, the more restricted their lives become with the burdensome obligation to perform like circus animals. If they were animals, PETA would have long agontaken up their cause.
Yes, but it will never happen.
But why stop at Great Britain? There are monarchies in Scandinavia (several countries), Thailand, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and so on.
Why pick on Great Britain? Let’s dump them all.
Here’s the link which has arguments for and against it.
I’m American, so I’m not sure my opinion really counts, but I’m fine with the Monarchy staying around. They have little power, but it seems to me to be a nice tradition. If I were British I wouldn’t want my taxes going to support the family, except to maintain Buckingham
Palace I guess. I don’t know all the ins and outs.
It’s a question for the British. I have no opinion worth recording.
If that’s what it takes to abolish news coverage of the royals, then by all means they should.
Ask yourself this question: Would you rather have fake-president drumpf, or The Queen as your current ruler?
@Brian1946 Also, what is it with that swastika in your thumbnail?
Ha ha…Both are equal in that case..)
I think they could be nicer and make public more of their holdings… live a bit less high on the hog. But having a monarchy, a small one, gives your country real and true ambassadors that are raised as professional diplomats to represent your country. I think ‘landed gentry’ could be taken down further. That Bullshit system they have of ‘high-borns’ is much more tragic. I admire our King and Queen and the Royal Prince next in line here in Norway. I think they do a good job representing the country and work hard. The others should get real jobs. I think Charles will be useless, but his son won’t. Both his sons actually work real jobs at the moment. That’s how they should behave.
If they want to. Outsiders have no reason to speculate.
@MollyMcGuire Some non-Brits understand the benefits of having a monarchy.
I don’t care! What don’t you understand about ” Outsiders have no reason to speculate?” @cazzie
@MollyMcGuire – so those of us who live in democracies have no right to think about other countries?
Hmm.
@MollyMcGuire It sounds as if some of the responses on this thread have hit a a nerve. If you live in the U.K., then it is understandable why this might be. May I suggest that your input would be more helpful for others to understand your opinion, rather than telling non-UK members that they have no right to share their own?
Just to clarify, the question and responses thus far have nothing to do with ‘speculation’. No one is attempting to predict what will happen to the monarchy in the future.
This is a question about whether or not to continue the centuries-old practice or let it go. It is a worthy question. It is one that is often used in good business practices, and even in our own personal lives.
Just a thought on this: While non-UK citizens may not understand the value that the royal family brings to the country, there is a chance that there might be some pearls of wisdom in what they have to say that those too close to the subject fail to see.
I don’t see any harm in having a monarchy. There is something romantic about having kings and queens. I personally can’t buy into it, but I do not begrudge those who can.
I don’t like our royals, they bag all the best staff.
This question is entirely pointless as the scenario is absolutely never going to happen.
William, Kate & Harry will keep the royalists at home & abroad salivating for years & years & years…
I think Molly is just upset someone hasn’t made her queen. She can be queen of something, I’m thinking.
If it were a choice between the EU and the monarchy, I’d choose the EU in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I appear to be in the minority in my country.
