What kind of frog has tad poles this BIG?
Caution. Disgusting picture.
My son has big hands. They are in proportion to his 6’ 3” body. This thing is GIGANTIC!
He is in maintenance at an upscale retirement compound. This time of year he gets to spend much of his time riding around in the woods on a Gator, and mowing lawns, and trimming and setting burn piles on fire in the woods, and looking for snakes and turtles down by the pond. He loves it. He posts pictures of his discoveries all the time. He posted the picture above on Facebook today. Shudder.
WTH is it??

The Creature From the Black Lagoon? The Cryptid That Ate Cincinnati? Your guess is as good as mine.
OMG. The Creature from the Black Lagoon has been playing on TV lately. I was just a kid when I saw it first and I got the worst nightmare of my life, but I didn’t associate it with that movie until later.
Anyway, my son said bullfrog. Guess I should have just asked him first. He’s an amateur expert in herpetology.
I was just so excited to find that I can post again from my desktop in the normal way I just couldn’t wait to ask question!
We’ll see what kind of discussion this entails.
Not much of one if I’m the only one who answers.
The Boggy Creek Monster just checked in, he says it’s not a bad likeness, but it makes him look fat. Go figure.
Probably an American Bullfrog.
That’s what my son said @canidmajor. I’ve never seen one so huge, but the bullfrogs do get huge. This is one of my granddaughters from a few years ago describing her astonishment at the SIZE of those frogs in this pond. She wasn’t kidding, either.
We caught tadpoles when I was kid in Florida. Mom filled a fish tank up with water from where ever we found them. It was cool watching them develop legs and stuff. But they were just little things.
Yep, Bullfrog, they are adorable. We have a big pond here the Bullfrogs are carrying on all night long lately. Soon fat little tads everywhere. I love BF tadpoles and Bullfrogs.
I used to catch tadpoles like that when I was a kid. They are adorable, like little green puppies.
They become regular little green frogs. They don’t get much bigger as they change, and the tail disappears. It is like over half their length at that age.
It sounds like they screech when they jump.
That tad pole will not turn in to a little green frog.
I can’t get any of the links to work. But yeah, if they’re huge, probably Bull frogs. I’ve seen some monsters in the swamps.
The tad poles you caught, that were as long as your hand turned into little green frogs?
There are salamanders that can look like tadpoles at first glance. And some of those guys can get huge.
It looks so crazy pre-historic.
