Who cares to play TJBM game, The Jelly Below Me, #79?

Asked by Mimishu1995 (23796points) May 25th, 2017

The game rules are:
Respond to the question/statement from the poster above.
Ex: I might make the statement:
“The Jelly below me is a cheese addict.”
The response might be:
“False! Cheese killed my family!”
or,
“True! I live on cheese.”
Then they might state:
“The Jelly below me likes sleeping.”
There are no right or wrong answers, so be as creative as your heart desires.
Happily, this is becoming the Never Ending TJBM Game. Tradition now suggests that a Jelly re-start the question when we reach about 500 responses. Hopefully almost all the Jellies will join in.
Enjoy!

TJBM hates me.

snowberry's avatar

Nope! Not a bit!

TJBM needs a haircut.

NomoreY_A's avatar

You are spot on about that. I just hate paying 12 bucks for a service worth about 75 cents. TJBM is out dancing and romancing.

Patty_Melt's avatar

When I could be Fluthering? Certainly not!
TJBM has a drone.

Mimishu1995's avatar

You mean this or this?
TJBM will say happy birthday to me.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Happy Birthday to youuuu… TJBM will wish you many more, till you’re 104.

Khajuria9's avatar

Wish you many more happy birthdays for years to come.
TJBM taught me to not ask questions in fluther anymore.

Patty_Melt's avatar

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIMI!
TJBM steps past bullshit.

Khajuria9's avatar

Mimishu, what’s up with Fluther these days? It has changed a lot in one year, interesting recent developments!
TJBM loves to own a grumpy cat.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Awww thanks so much guys :)
I have learned through Fluther that sometimes you shouldn’t take things too personally. Some things aren’t right for you and it’s up to you to decide what to take and what not. With that in mind, I manage to avoid a lot of unnecessary bullshit both on here and in real life.
And I don’t like grumpy pets. I want them to be loving and cuddly.
Now now @Khajuria9, what’s bothering you? Care to share through PM?
TJBM knows when to detach themselves from a situation.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Not so much… but I have learned to detach myself from playing pool for money. TJBM will eat too much cake and ice cream tonight.

Khajuria9's avatar

I better have some cake and ice-cream now!
Mimi, I shall speak later with you, anyway, wanted to let you know ‘You were missed, and how’s Ibstubro?’

TJBM should get a nap :)

NomoreY_A's avatar

I should, I’m dog tired and bone weary. TJBM will be hitting the hay soon, as well.

Khajuria9's avatar

Was going to switch the lappy off and go to sleep.
TJBM will say me ‘GoodBye’.

snowberry's avatar

Goodbye! And goodnight! This jelly is off to bed too!

TJBM will tell a bedtime story.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Jack and Jill went up a hill to fetch a pail of water. They both fell down and fooled around, and now Jill has a daughter. Some story…should be x rated. TJBM says I’m nuts, and should be taken away in a padded wagon. And who hypnotized me? Put that watch away!

Khajuria9's avatar

No, you aren’t. You are being hypnotized! ;p

TJBM is loving and forgiving!

Patty_Melt's avatar

I am, but I’m also not easy. A couple of words in private does not erase a public rant for me.
More for Mimi
TJBM will declare tjbm thread Mimishu’s birthday party for tonight at least.

NomoreY_A's avatar

I hereby declare this thread the Birthday Party for Mimishu, and may I be the first to ask her for a dance?(Wanders off dance floor with raging headache from being hit over head with purse). What’s she packing in that thing, anyway? TJBM will offer me a Tylenol. Please.

Patty_Melt's avatar

You are lucky if Mimi only hit you with her purse. She packs a tommy gun in that thing! She must really like you.
Here, have a Tylenol, and a glass of wine. It is national wine day in the U.S.
TJBM will sing happy birthday while I whip up a cake.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I’ll dance with @NomoreY_A while waiting for someone to sing for me :D
TJBM will party!

Patty_Melt's avatar

Here is cake.
TJBM will sing…
still waiting. @Strauss?

SergeantQueen's avatar

Commences ear-splitting, out of tune singing
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR MIMI!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUUU!!!!!!!!!

I wish you many, many wonderful birthdays in the future !!

TJBM Will provide endless snacks for the birthday party :)

Patty_Melt's avatar

Snacks are ahead. Right now I have entertainment
Keep in mind I have to write out the whole link for each of these so it takes me a while.
TJBM has more birthday fun.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Sorry, second link doesn’t work. I ran out of time trying to fix it. Fluther is acting wonky forme tonight.

Coloma's avatar

Is it really your Birthday @Mimishu1995

Happy Birthday my darling! :-)

TJBM has a birthday in the next 6 months.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Nope. Mine was in March.

LOL. Happy Birthday, sweetheart! In honor of your birthday and your affinity for gangster films, I bequeath to you one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies

TJBM has something for Mimi’s birthday.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Mimi food
TJBM will bring friends, music, and/or dancing to the party.

MrGrimm888's avatar

Happy birthday Mimi!...

I brought some of my loud, drunken friends. Hope you don’t mind. They’re not so bad, if you’re drunk too….

I brought the giant beat box from the movie “Do the Right Thing.” Just need a bunch of batteries…. Then, the dancing will begin.

TJBM knows how many batteries the character in that movie needed….

imrainmaker's avatar

Nope..no idea. You can take more if required bcoz this party will go on for long!!
Happy birthday to you Miminshu..))
TJBM knows how to party hard!!

Khajuria9's avatar

No, I don’t like to party hard even if I know how to. I rather enjoy introspection!
TJBM talks a lot.

snowberry's avatar

I’m silent for long periods of time…until I have something to say. Then, watch out!

Happy B-day Mimi! I hope it was as lovely as you are.

TJBM has an itch they can’t reach, and will tell us how they scratch it.

Mimishu1995's avatar

An itch in the foot. And rubbing the foot on the flood feels good.
TJBM will continue the party :p

Strauss's avatar

To party hard, IMHO, means it’s too loud, too drunk and/or too raucous. To party hearty OTOH, means a full blown celebration!

I guess I’m a day late and a dollar short! Happy birthday, Mimi!

Da-na na-na na-na, You say it’s your birthday!

But don’t they celebrate all birthdays during Tet?

TJBM knows the answer.

snowberry's avatar

I’m not at all up on the intricacies of tet. It’s got something to do with the Vietnamese new year, but how does that apply here, except that Mimi is another year older?

<humming happy birthday to you>

Maybe Mimi will be the TJBM and will explain it for us.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Well, actually things are a bit confusing. Tet is supposed to be the beginning of a new year, so by default everyone is another year older, regardless of when they were born. Birthday is just a tradition we adopted from Westerners. So you get the “traditional vs modern” thing. The thing with Tet was meant to make it easier to keep track of age, since we used a very confusing version of Chinese calendar and no one cared enough to keep track of their babies’ birthday. But these days no one uses Tet as an age mark anymore.
TJBM understands what I mean.

Strauss's avatar

I understand exactly what you mean. I have done some research on Chinese calendars, and they can be very confusing.

TJBM finds solar calendar vs. lunar calendar confusing.

snowberry's avatar

Yes, but the Jews seem to have it down pretty good!

TJBM is going to regale us with a birthday story!

NomoreY_A's avatar

I don’t do birthdays any more, too dang old. TJBM will talk birthdays no more forever.

Khajuria9's avatar

Yes, birthday messages, again and again, seem boring. Let’s get interesting!
TJBM knows-it-all :)

NomoreY_A's avatar

Well then let’s get this shindig going! I’ve recovered from my head injury last night, so I will be so bold as to ask Mimi for a dance, again. And this time I’m wearing a helmet. Used to be a dance instructor, ya know. But I don’t recall if that was before or after I was a mercenary in Africa, and Captain of the Edmund Fitzgerald. TJBM will kick in with the music. Preferably live band.

SergeantQueen's avatar

I’m going to play some sick jazz beats on my alto saxophone, whether you guys like it or not.

TJBM loves jazz

Khajuria9's avatar

Nope, I don’t.
TJBM is SPIRITUAL.

Coloma's avatar

I believe in the interconnectedness of the universe but I do not believe in any “God” or deity.

TJBM is tired today,

NomoreY_A's avatar

Very tired, could have slept all day. TJBM is full of vim and vinegar.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Haven’t felt my oats in a while.
Mimi
TJBM has a big gun.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Nope, I sold my guns when I got to where I have little grand kids coming around all the time. Didn’t want to risk a tragedy. No guns, no worries. TJBM has one, I’m sure of it.

Khajuria9's avatar

Naah,
I don’t have.
The Jelly Below Me loves to waste their time! :;p ;p ;p

NomoreY_A's avatar

Since when is Sponge Bob Square Pants a waste of time? TJBM is fond of Classical Music.

Khajuria9's avatar

I find it intense! Don’t like it much.
TJBM snores loud at night ;p

NomoreY_A's avatar

Nope, I once shot a man just for snoring. Judge let me off, said if the guy snored he probably needed shooting. TJBM likes playing TJBM game.

Khajuria9's avatar

hahahah, without a doubt !
TJBM can tell whether a jelly is a male or a female merely by looking at the message content and style of expression! :)

Coloma's avatar

Sometimes, maybe, but it’s easy to be wrong unless you know for sure.

TJBM is off and running.

Patty_Melt's avatar

You are half right. I am off. I am so far off I don’t dare try to fix lunch, or I will surely end up on my face.
TJBM is having an off day.

Khajuria9's avatar

No day is an off day for me.
TJBM has visited Iceland.

snowberry's avatar

Yes. Brought home sweaters for my folks.

TJBM won’t be eating pizza for a while.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Are you sentencing me? pout I have a freezer full of Totino’s.
TJBM has a children’s movie in mind they want to see again.

Coloma's avatar

Not in the moment, I have seen most of them many times with my own daughter and the 10 yr. old girl I babysit on occasion.

TJBM has to go to the dentist today.

snowberry's avatar

Nope, I went on Monday!

TJBM would like to go on a vacation. Tell us where you’d like to go.

Khajuria9's avatar

HEAVEN, is that a place?
TJBM has a lovely voice :)

snowberry's avatar

Well it’s not lovely, but it’s my voice!

TJBM needs to get off Fluther and get going! Bai bai!

Patty_Melt's avatar

Okee dokee.
TJBM will watch the Boov invade us.

Coloma's avatar

What’s the Boov?

TJBM is going now too.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Run fer yer lives, the sky is falling, the boovs is coming! Er – exactly WHAT IS a boove, anywho? Sounds like a 1950s era B list Sci Fi movie. “The Boov That Ate Cincinnati”. TJBM will now indulge themselves, by bing watching their collection of, you guessed it – B movies from the 1950s.

Patty_Melt's avatar

I’m not revisiting the 50’s today.
See Boov here.
TJBM finds Boov amusing, especially Oh.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

The video you linked to was great! I loved it. But I didn’t get “Boov” out of it. All I saw listed was Gork. Boov?

OK. Tonight is the night. We gonna party for Mimi. And I’m going uptown to find that funky Serbian chick again because it worked last time and I really want her to come back.

LET’S DO THIS!

(Here/s the Old School Version)

TJBM IS READY TO PAAAAAAAARTAY!

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

C’mon, bring all yo ugly ass friends! Point yo pinky finger to the moooooon. ‘Cause Mimi’s is 24 Karat Magic is in the air!

Who’s got the food? Who’s got the drink?

TJBM Say What?

Patty_Melt's avatar

Okay, but this is my crowd.
—Don’t hit the link until I can check it and maybe make edits.
TJBM will party and to heck with other topics a while.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

You got it, Navygirl.

Duh fuk is everybody? Downstairs?

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

LOL. Those guys still have it. Amazing.

Tony and da Lady

Show me what you got, Navy

Patty_Melt's avatar

I have to spell out every URL, so it is a slow process, and often typos have to be fixed.
Be patient with me, I am rounding stuff up.
MIIIIIIMIIIII!!!!!!!

Strauss's avatar

Uh, what’s the last TJBM?

TJBM is confused, but it’s nothing a little party won’t cure!

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Just post music! Bring some food and drink!
Fill this thread up with Mimi’s birthday party.
C’mon guys. Somewhere There’s Music.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Hah… hah… hah… Thanks all of you for the party. This is the wildest party I’ve ever had.
Back in my world, I could have celebrated, but I had an accident and my leg was badly hurt so I was forced to stay at home. I had a couple of friends come to my home. We were disappointed that we couldn’t go out but we managed fine overall. I got some people wishing me happy birthday on Facebook. The difference this year was that there were people I had never expected to care about me before like my fellow students during the Thailand apprenticeship. My Thai teachers also came too.
Guess something has changed…
TJBM will change the topic.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

You made it, babe! I have home made mango/pineapple ice cream just for you!

Wanna dance a little with this old sailor?

@Patty_Melt—PM me the vid description, and I’ll paste it in for you.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Thanks EC. I was out at night for some home movie treat :)
TJBM is still here.

Coloma's avatar

My link works now. Gah!

Mimishu1995's avatar

Er EC, your link doesn’t work.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Yw, Mimi. Nice, Coloma. The link worked, but the vid was pulled. The music was there, though.

Edit: Nope. It doesn’t work anymore, C.

The Birdland link works now, Mimi. It works for me.

Mimishu1995's avatar

TJBM has a new idea for the party.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

TJBY is listening. What do you want to do Mimi?

TJBM is too.

Coloma's avatar

I am. :-)

TJBM is lying down listening.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

LOL. Good. But I’m a villain everyday, Mimi. How about we all go to Chatzy and watch a film together?

Mimishu1995's avatar

Great idea! But I wonder who’s still around beside you and me…

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

We can watch one of these Noirs, if you like. They are all importable to Chatzy.

I don’t know who’s still here, but we can leave them the link to the chatroom if they want to join us. I’ll leave it open to visitors. We can always leave this tab open and check in every once in awhile. You can have your cake and eat it too, Mimi!

(I always wonder if there is some drama going on another thread when everyone disappears like this. I’d much rather watch a film than get pounded over something stupid like last week.)

OK?

Patty_Melt's avatar

Oh great, I write a bunch of lines and when I come back the party is gone. Sigh.
Here’s cocktails
How low can you go?
Here is more fun.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Well, the thought was nice, Patty. I have no idea where everybody went. Friday night out on the town? LOL. Probably arguing about who is the more insensitive bastard on some other fuckin’ thread.

Ho, hum.

I’ll have whatever the guy on the floor had.

TJBM will have the same.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I have been eating everything on the table.
TJBM is still around.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I’m here.

TJBM is still around.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Yes.
I brought cake last night. Is there any left?
TJBM will tell what they are in the mood to eat.

Mimishu1995's avatar

CHEESE AND CHOCOLATE!
TJBM has cheese and chocolate.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Gimme me a minute. I have some aged Shropshire Bleu with crackers. I have big, red seedles grapes and hard salami as well. But no chocolate.

TJBM will bring the chocolate.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Well, I don’t know why cheese won’t work. I wrote it right.

Mimishu1995's avatar

@Patty_Melt WHERE’S MY CHEESE? <whining>

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Again. I’m getting the audio and not the vid. Strange. But I pictured it in my mind. So, nice. What kind of cheese do you want, Mimi? I’ll hop on my horse and see if there’s something in the village.

Patty_Melt's avatar

You have to catch your cheese.
GO MIMI! GO!

Mimishu1995's avatar

<RUUUUUUNING>
TJBM will use “TJBM” so that people will know this thread still go on.
And I eat EVERYTHING EC! AS LONG AS IT’S CHEESE!

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Everything ...as long as it’s cheese. OK. Got it. I’ll remember to bring cheese on movie night.

TJBM will join us HERE on movie night.

SergeantQueen's avatar

Yeah sure. I don’t know when movie night is though.

TJBM knows when it is

Mimishu1995's avatar

It’s anytime we have enough people. I won’t be there today though, I have some work to deal with. Tomorrow is better.
TJBM is interested too.

Coloma's avatar

Count me in fer sure.

TJBM is going to bed.

Strauss's avatar

After I fix up some chocolate fondue to dip the cheese.

TJBM knows with chocolate and cheese, all we need is bacon and we have the three important food groups.

Coloma's avatar

Yes, fat, fat and more fat.

TJBM thinks fat is a food group. lol

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

It actually is, isn’t it? Proteins, Carbohydrates and Fats? I’m off to bed. Nighty-nite, all. Happy birthday once again, Mimi.

TJBM won’t forget to turn the lights out.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Lights out, mimi style.
TJBM will start a new day with open drapes and breakfast.

snowberry's avatar

I’m sorry I missed the party! Hubby and I went to bed instead.

I hope TJBM doesn’t have a hangover!

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Nah. Booze isn’t my thing.

TJBM has sunshine where they are and might go snorkeling for conch today.

Khajuria9's avatar

No, it’s raining outside. I am depressed as hell and there’s nothing special about this day.
TJBM will crack a joke now.

snowberry's avatar

This is better than a joke! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X2tgbncOoMk

TJBM will tell us what part of the world they live in.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I think I have made it quite clear by now :p
TJBM will tell us what part of the world they live in.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

St. Lucia, a small island republic in the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles in the East Caribbean, about 1,500mi/2,500km southeast of Miami, 14° north of the equator at about 14° N, 61° W in the Atlantic Standard Time Zone.

TJBM will tell us what part of the world they live in.

Strauss's avatar

Colorado, USA. Just east of the Rocky Mountains in the Denver Metro area.

TJBM will tell us what part of the world they live in.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Eastern North Carolina, USA.
Front steps are 151 feet above sea level, Atlantic Ocean is a 2 and half hour drive. It is really flat here.

TJBM knows the altitude of where the live.

Strauss's avatar

Officially my town is at 5407’ (1648 m). My elevation is a few dozen feet higher.

TJBM can see ________ from their neighborhood.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Rain. It’s raining hard today.
TJBM is enjoying the sun.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Big time. It’s been raining cats and dogs for days. Summer is here. Hurricane season is officially upon us in four more days.

I’m at about 800 ft. above sea level. I can see the coastal fishing village below and about 50 miles into the Atlantic ocean. To the west, I can see only about a few hundred yards into the thick tropical central highland.

TJBM knows the altitude of where the live and can see _______ from their neighborhood.

snowberry's avatar

Texas here, and about 930 ft above sea level.

TJBM has no idea where they put that thing they can’t find. Tell us about it and what you’re going to do about it.

Paloma's avatar

Hah…yes, I have no idea why my fluther acct. says is had been closed, trying to get to the bottom of it. Coloma has been cancelled.

TJBM knows why Colomas acct. has been closed?

Mimishu1995's avatar

Oh God! What have you done Coloma? Did your goose just ate the Neptune’s dearest pet fish?
Contact the mods and ask them to reactivate your account.
TJBM hopes to see Coloma’s old account again.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Of course. But Paloma is nice. It means dove in Spanish and is a popular name for girls. I’ve always liked it. It’s a very sweet name. I think she should keep the Paloma acct. for backup and reserve the name.

TJBM knows that they can get on the movie night notifications list just by asking.

snowberry's avatar

I still haven’t figured out this movie website. It’s sort of muddled up for me. Please spell it out again for me @Espiritus_Corvus. I’m not very good at technology.

TJBM has an unusual favorite comfort food. Tell us!

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Swedish knäckebröd (unleavened rye crispbread) with aged Jarlsberg cheese and slices of fresh cucumber on top, eaten with hot bouillon as a beverage.

@snowberry: The chatroom we use for movie night is HERE. Go there and copy the url into a document for later. If you have any problems navigating the site, please PM me or leave a message to me in the chatroom. I check it every couple of days.

I have a list of over 80 films with the urls to my Google Drive account where you can access them and either watch them online or download them into your phone or hard drive, if anyone is interested. There are also many good films available for free viewing and download at the Internet Archive. These are films, many of them excellent old films, that have fallen into the public domain. We can also import these films and those on YouTube directly into the chatroom where we can view them together while commenting simultaneously.

TJBM has an unusual favorite comfort food. Tell us!

snowberry's avatar

Anything in a coffee cup (because it has a handle) that can be eaten with a spoon while I’m sitting in a comfy chair with my feet curled up under me!

TJBM will tell us what’s your favorite unusual dessert?

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Strawberry & Rhubarb custard pie. My aunt use to make them – - – yum!
She used lard in the pie crust too.

TJBM knows where Paloma went.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

WTF? Coloma’s gone and all her PM’s going back years are gone as well. Now Paloma is gone, too. I have two emails from her in my inbox, but I can’t open them because my internet connection is so bloody fucking bad today. What the hell is this?

TJBM knows why Coloma’s PM’s are gone along with everything else and will tell us if they have any comms from her outside Fluther.

Patty_Melt's avatar

OMG!!!!!!!!!!
Is Coloma’s goose cooked?
All her pms to me are gone also!
HIPPIE GIRL, COME BACK!
TJBM is not @Coloma, but they are hopeful she will soon return.

SergeantQueen's avatar

I hope she comes back!!! I never Pm’ed her or anything, but I liked her answers. Why are users just deleting their accounts/being banned all of a sudden for no reason? (The older users who never spam or anything being banned?)
who is Paloma? is that Coloma’s alt?
TJBM knows the answer to that question.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Coloma created Paloma when she couldn’t access her Coloma acct. Thought it was a glitch or hack. She’ll be back next weekend.

Here’s to our Mountain Gurl Turn it up so they can hear it California.

TJBM is cool with everything now.

Patty_Melt's avatar

I’m cool, but a bit rattled. I guess this is our tread lightly warning.
TJBM won’t ride a horse unless they install seat belts on saddles.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

LOL. Pussy.

TJBM wonders who’s gonna point the TJBMers for just showing up while the cowgirl is on vacation.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Noooo, I love riding, miss it a lot, but I had a friend who felt that way.
Where jelly lurve comes from sometimes might surprise you.
TJBM excuse me, pizza. feels like star gazing tonight.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Nope, been outside in the heat all day. I feel liking drinking a beer and going to bed, but my blow up doll left me for an inner tube. TJBM will begin writing a cheesy detective story.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Ok then, I’ll do it: She walked into my office, swinging her hips like a Vegas showgirl auditioning for a dance number. I took a puff of my non filter, and asked it I could help her with something. “I want to hire you to find the Maltese Flacon”, she replied. I took another sip of cheap whiskey, and asked her, “What do I look like, a zoo keeper?” To be continued…TJBM will find me a publisher…

NomoreY_A's avatar

On edit – that should have been the Maltese Falcon…

Patty_Melt's avatar

I guess that answers the publisher issue.
TJBM ain’t sharing their publisher for nobody. Unless there’s a percentage in it.

NomoreY_A's avatar

She ain’t sharing a publisher, she told me. I told her I never met a dame, didn’t understand a slap in the face, or a slug from a .45, as I drew my 45 Colt from under my trench coat. As she ran out the door, she dropped the falcon statuette on the floor. I knew she had had it all along… to be continued. TJBM will say no more cheap detective fiction. Please.

snowberry's avatar

I picked up the Maltese falcon. It was late. Too late to take it somewhere I could lock it up. I wrapped it in my trench coat and tucked it under my arm.

As I left the office, the dame showed up, a cigarette hanging from her lips. “Got a light, buddy?”

TJBM will continue this film noir script.

NomoreY_A's avatar

“Hey, whose story is this, anyway?” I asked in astonishment, before lighting her cig. Suddenly I remembered that film noire detectives never show astonishment. I groped for a proper Bogartesque response, as she got frisky, uh – I mean as she frisked me for the Falcon. “You got the drop on me now, but you’ll never leave Casablanca alive, sweetheart”. “You got the wrong film noire, moron”, she replied. I had to think fast… to be continued by TJBM

NomoreY_A's avatar

I wait patiently, whistling the tune of “Harlem Nocturne”, while I hope that TJBM won’t leave my brain child, Sam Malone, Private Eye, in a dang cliffhanger…

Mimishu1995's avatar

I suddenly woke up. She was right, I was in the wrong film. I realized that I was sitting on a chair, in a dimly lit room that appeared to be a warehouse. “Why am I sitting here? I don’t have time to watch boxes.” I got up, but a strong force pulled me down. Now I realized that I was tied up in the chair. Just then a shadow appeared…
TJBM will continue.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Pauly could hear someone groaning at the other end of the warehouse. He looked around a stack of boxes and could see what looked like a guy tied to a chair by enough hemp to dock the Queen Mary. Good luck, pal, he thought. “Where’d you get that?”

Benny looked down at the floor embarrassed. “She was standing—

”—She?” Pauli’s face looked like he just swallowed a wasp. “SHE? What da fuck?”

”—She was standing outside of Starbucks when we came outta the bank. She saw us when we pulled our masks off. I think she made us.”

“Whaddya you gonna do about it?”

Benny made himself small. He looked about half his 6’ 5”. “I dunno. Thought I’d check with you first.”

“Thought? You thought? This is something new, Benny. I told you not to do that. I send you fuckballs out on a cake gig in a quiet suburb with three cops on duty and you managed to come back here with a live witness. Who is she?”

“I dunno. Looks like an office worker or something.”

“You didn’t ask her? Look through her purse?”

“We left the purse on the sidewalk. She bites, Pauly. I had to gag her before she bit everybody in the fuckin’ car. Scratches, too. Vinny’s gonna hafta get stitches.”

“Jesus. You fuckin’ guys. Well, I want nothin’ to do with this part of it. She’s your problem. She sees anything and you shoot her. Got that? And no conversations on that end of the warehouse.” Pauli pulled a Wop nine auto out of his waist band and waved it at Benny. ”Got that?

Benny didn’t notice the gun. He was looking at the girl struggling in the chair. “Yeah, but..”

“Yeah, but, what?”

“Yeah, but maybe she didn’t make us after all.”

“That’s your problem. You just keep her deaf, dumb and blind for as long as we’re here.” Pauli was drilling into Benny’s eyes with his own.

Now, goddammit, where’s my fuckin’ money?”

TJBM will continue…

Patty_Melt's avatar

“Money?”
Benny looked so miserable Paulie knew the next answer was going to make him want to shoot.
“Thee uh, money is, we had tah ditch it Paulie. Damn, Paulie, don’t kill me. I know where it is.”
Paulie took a deep breath, and when it came out Benny thought his cheap rug was gonna fly.
“Knowin’ ain’t good enough, Benny. You best have something more for me, or you’re fish bait.”
Sweat poured off of Benny, and the warehouse was so quiet, Scar and Mish could hear the patter as it hit the cement floor, or maybe Benny pissed himself.
“C’mon, Paulieeee. I didn’t want the money on us, on accounta she maybe got us followed or somethin’, yunno? We stuck Mish’s jacket on her head, and stashed the dough on the way here. We figured we could go back for it when things cool down.”
Paulie started pacing.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Then they all died.

TJBM doesn’t want to play that game.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Damn. Harsh out on the party, iceberg.
TJBM will indicate the direction they wish to take.

NomoreY_A's avatar

I heard a knock on the door, it was some gumshoe detective from LAPD. “Come in”, I said, the only thing on my mind being the thought that I need to get rid of the shag carpet in the office. The detective introduced himself, some guy named Friday. Looked kinda like Jack Webb. He said he’d heard I was a master detective, I asked him if he had ever heard of the Hope Diamond heist of ‘57. “What about it”, he inquired. “Well the FBI and Scotland Yard were stumped, but I solved the case right away, I confessed”. He turned to leave, after giving me his card. “I just got one thing to say”, he told me. “Get rid of that carpet”. TJBM will continue. Maybe.

snowberry's avatar

The carpet was bad, but what was worse was the view out the window. I closed the blinds and turned to leave. There was a slip of paper under the door. I picked it up.

“Get out out of town or you’re a dead duck!”

I sat down and pulled out a cig. Now who would want me to leave town? Was it Curly? No, he wasn’t out of jail yet. I sighed and rubbed the stubble on my chin. Maybe it was a ruse to get me outta the way. Would Marge know anything about this? Marge knew everything about everybody, and maybe she knew an interior decorator. I grabbed my keys and headed downtown.

TJBM is on to other things

Strauss's avatar

I finally…finallyfinally got some plants in the ground. My garden is wa-a-ay behind schedule this year.

TJBM is behind schedule with something.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Not now, but I will eventually. I tend to drift…
TJBM likes to take their own route.

Strauss's avatar

Never take the highways unless I’m on a tight schedule and time is of the essence. Like the person in this poem, I prefer the road less travelled.

TJBM prefers the road less travelled.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I have a feeling that I travel on less travelled roads most of my life. Sometimes I really feel out of tune with my friends. I can’t really keep up with the lifestyle they are leading, nor can I understand it. I don’t know why I’m that way. I feel… lost sometimes. Maybe there’s something wrong with me, or I’m heading on somewhere.
Note to EC: you are going to see what I said for yourself tonight.
TJBM can relate…
or
TJBM doesn’t like depressing thought and will change the subject.

Soubresaut's avatar

I’ll try! I’m not always the best judge of generically “happy,” though. For example, this song is one of my favorite road trip song. It always makes me laugh.

I’ve been looking through old photos recently. I’ve been doing so to share with other people, so I’ve been looking through them specifically for the good bits. There’s a lot of anger and pain that I know surrounds and perhaps overshadows many of the scenes the photos depict, but you can’t see it in my face in the photos. I just look happy and animated… It’s weird what a well-timed smile and some distance can do to a memory.

Is that happy enough?

TJBM will share a memory.

NomoreY_A's avatar

I’m pondering which memory to share, got a lot of them. Good, bad, indifferent. Have to get back on that one… TJBM will carry on with this memory thangee…

snowberry's avatar

I remember watching my dog give birth to 7 puppies when I was a little girl. The last one was born dead.

TJBM will tell us another memory.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Memory, shmemory. Ok, here goes… I remember spending my last few bucks on a six-pack, which my buds polished off, saving me one. It turned out to be an empty can, with the seal still intact. Every one thought it was hilarious. Except me, I was not a happy camper. TJBM will change the topic.

snowberry's avatar

How about the Ultimate Dog Tease. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nGeKSiCQkPw

TJBM knows how to make origami.

NomoreY_A's avatar

I don’t even know what origami is, let alone how to make it. TJBM will inform us as to whether this thing is something edible, or am I way off the mark…

Soubresaut's avatar

Origami’s as edible as the paper used to make it!

There’s a Nova called “The Origami Revolution” that I saw a while ago… Sorta blew my mind about the science behind, and inspired by, origami… and I guess folding more generally. It’s worth watching for anyone who has the time.

I always forget the steps behind paper cranes, but I got reasonably good at making tiny ones at one point. Here’s an example—it’s on my pointer finger for some sort of scale.

TJBM is sleepy

Patty_Melt's avatar

Yes, but I have stuff that ,ust be done.
TJBM is opposed to working with a deadline.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Can’t agree more. People say pressure makes you more productive. It never applies to me. Pressure only makes me mess up even more.
TJBM would like to go to watch movies tonight.

snowberry's avatar

Getting ready for a trip. Probably won’t happen, but I’ll keep it in mind for the future! ;)

TJBM has to get off Fluther and engage in real life. Bye bye!

Strauss's avatar

I’m doing double duty right now. Fluthering while I’m othering.

TJBM can Fluther while they other.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Um, depends on what ”other” is. Keep an ear on chilluns at the same time? Yes. And eat at the same time? Yes.

TJBM is getting ready to go out of town for the night. (I can not Fluther and get ready to go out of town at the same time.)

Patty_Melt's avatar

I can’t go anywhere. If you pick me up, I’d tag along.
My weekends used to be auctions, auto auctions, gun shows. Now it is four walls and whatever movie I’m feeling.
TJBM likes to visits small shops which smell spicey, a little dusty, and look at heavy old trunks, cool little bottles which may have once held something exotic, and carved boxes, which smell distinctly of body powder.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I do! I’ll take that over a mall anytime.

TJBM will list places to shop that they like better than malls.

NomoreY_A's avatar

No I won’t. I’d rather take a beating than go shopping. Unless it’s a sporting goods store, but I wouldn’t call that shopping. Let’s call it browsing. Yeah, I like that. TJBM will not make any remarks regarding the new phrase that I just coined.

Patty_Melt's avatar

I am feeling frustrated with another thread and tbe jelly who wrote it. Right now I just want this thread to be fun.
TJBM will discuss at least one way they have fun.

Dutchess_III's avatar

COVFEFE!!!

TJBM is ready to get home.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Actually I’m ready to get the mail, just hear the truck go by on the street.

TJBM knows that covfefe is in “Words with Friends” dictionary.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Uhhhhh, I guess. I don’t get how it is fun.
TJBM wipes their bottom with only one hand, and never switches.

Strauss's avatar

Usually, but I won’t get into details.

TJBM is enjoying nice weather right now.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Tropical_Willie COVFEFE isn’t a WWF word!

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Yes. Great weather. Being-in-the-water-weather.

Has anybody found out what COVFEFE means? Code word for presidential pussy grabbing? My US newsfeed is down with my broadband. I’m on an atrocious Hotspot.

TJBM knows what COVFEFE means and will give reference, please.

Strauss's avatar

Until I saw it in context, I did not know. When I did see it in context, I guessed it must be a typo by the Tweeter-in-chief. I googled and came upon this article.

TJBM thinks it is much ado about nothing.

Soubresaut's avatar

Covert federal feudalism?

Carry on Vlad, ... um… “Fe…” “F____ E_____”....

Well, okay, Strauss beat me to it.

Of course it’s much ado about nothing. But we’ve got to find something to laugh about in the midst of all of this, don’t we?

TJBM thinks laughter serves an important social function.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Yeah. It keeps us from wanting to strangle each other.

WTF is so covert about his desire to bring back feudalism?

TJBM can’t think of a TJBM because they’re more interested in being outside.

Strauss's avatar

Taking a break from the garden. I’m going back outside.

TJBM has a garden.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Oh, hell, Strauss. Thank you for the opportunity to once again write about my garden. It not only provides sustenance, but is a quiet, pretty place for meditative moments under the mango and tangerine trees. I watch my little stingless Melipona bees go there and jump from bud to bud and pollinate and produce the finest honey, the chickens get a few minutes before bedtime to scarf down the aphids, insects and in return fertilize the soil, the earthworms turn the soil, keep it oxygenated and break down the compost… It’s a beautiful example of symbiosis. Most of the hard work is done by the fauna in the garden itself. Now it is dragonfly time. Fascinating animals and they keep the mosquito population under control.

Gardening and cooking are the only two hobbies I know of that actually save you tons of money and improve your health and standard of living.

TJBM loves the idea of how nature will often balance itself, if humans have enough patience and aren’t too greedy.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@Dutchess_III Check the Dictionary “Words with Friends” for covfefe!

Mimishu1995's avatar

Of course! That is why the Earth managed to survive for so long in the face of all kinds of shit. Well before human started to mess things up anyway.
TJBM spent most of their life in nature.

Patty_Melt's avatar

On the farm as a child, on the water in the navy, camping, house in the woods, yes, I would say so.
TJBM gets by on guesses a lot.

snowberry's avatar

I try not to!

TJBM will tell us their favorite dessert.

Strauss's avatar

Oh, so many! The first that comes to mind is warm apple pie a la mode!

TJBM will also tell us their favorite dessert.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I’m an appetizer and entrée dude. If there is room left, I go with fresh fruit. Not big on desserts. Sometimes I’ll take an hour or two and just work my way through the apps menu. I invented the American version of tapas.

TJBM likes the musty smell of old book stores.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Mmmmmm, yes. Hot chocolate, snickerdoodles, and old books.
TJBM can blend snacks with weather and activity for just the right combo. (The above is perfect in November.)

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Slices of chilled conch that have marinated overnight in lemon and light spices, with a glass of ice cold Pinot Grigio, dry as the Gobi Desert. Close your eyes and put yourself here 1 2

And when the wind is right, you can sail away…

TJBM is in quite a nice mood today.

SergeantQueen's avatar

Nope. I am so sick and I want to go home, but I have 3 days left of High School (2 days after today), and I don’t want to miss any. I want to puke, I feel faint and just ugh. my stomach hurts so bad

TJBM will help me feel better.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Just did @Tropical_Willie. Nothing. It listed COVE and COFFEE as possibilities.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Drink some water. Put on some gentle music which you like, but don’t listen to often.
You can self massage quite effectively, even if not so thoroughly as if someone else is there to help.
Massage is not a cure all, but is very helpful to the body to allow it to relax, feel invigorated, and organise.
The brain gets bogged down, sometimes, trying yo handle physical and mental stresses. Illiness is just one more distraction. Massage your hands. Just experiment with it. Listen to the soothing music you chose. Work over each hand, and then wrists.
If you can bend without puking, do the same with your feet. If not, start with your knees. That sounds weird to most people, but once you get started, you will be astonished by how much stress your knees hold, and how happy they are that you finally noticed.
Massage your temples, around your eyes, your scalp, that soft place at the base of your skull.
Take your time.
Finally, lie flat, and pet your tummy, real light, no weight on your unhappy belly. Pet it like a cat. You will feel a kind of melting.

TJBM will recommend some good, soothing music choices for our suffering friend.

TJBM has something to celebrate

snowberry's avatar

My oldest granddaughter graduated from high school, This is the one who’s gone through hell and back, been homeless for a while, and she’s got a high school diploma! Yaaay!

TJBM also has something to celebrate.

SergeantQueen's avatar

I passed my PT test last night! :) Makes me very happy because I have such a hard time with it. My mile was around 10:36. Last month it was 10:57 and two months ago it was 11:30ish. I am improving. I feel it has something to do with the amount of biking I’ve been doing for a class, almost 10 miles a day. My legs are sore, I biked about 10 miles yesterday, ran a mile, and did another 10 miles today. I’m wondering if that’s where some of my illness is coming from.

I am feeling much better, I took a nap once I got home and I don’t feel as sick. @Patty_Melt, I didn’t see your answer until just now, but I will definitely try that. Thanks for your answer.

TJBM has been doing a lot of exercise lately.

TJBM could rule a nation, if just given the chance.

Mimishu1995's avatar

YOU BET! MUHAHAHAHAHAW!
TJBM is too ambitious.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Precisely the opposite. I was once. I still have ambitions, but they aren’t huge like they used to be. I’m a lot more laid back now, taking it easy. There aren’t a lot of people depending on me now. That was hard to get used to. I don’t recommend this to young people at all, but there comes a day when you just gotta slow it down or you’re gonna hurt somebody.

TJBM loves jazz

Patty_Melt's avatar

OhhhHhHhH yeahhhhhhh.
TJBM can play bongos like cuhrazee man!

Strauss's avatar

Oh, yeah! Just put me on stage behind that poet!

TJBM knows what “beat” poetry is.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Yes, I was heavily into them when I was in my twenties. Started with Ginsberg, worked my way through Corso and Gary Snyder, some of whom were the original Darma Bums. You could say that Kerouac’s Subteraineans was one, very long blank verse. Stream of thought. There was poetry in Uncle Billy Burrough’s Naked Lunch. The rock group Steely Dan saw it bigtime.

Neal Cassady wrote a thin paperback book of stream of thought blank verse called The First Third. It was hilarious, lots of sex, and there were a lot of revelations in it for me. In the back was glued a 45rpm paper recording of him reciting his work: Ballin’ Jack and something about a popular cream used to rid one of crabs, It was a long time ago. I’ve never seen another copy anywhere. Bought it at Ferlinghetti’s in SF, probably a limited edition, personal publication. I wish I hadn’t lost it now. Nobody I’ve met since has ever heard of it.

One of my all time favorites was Elise Cowen. Beautiful, amazing work. Oh, man—Richard Brautigan. My hands-down favorite. What an amazing writer. I think it was Trout Fishing in America, full of his short stories and vignettes, all more poetry than prose. This guy really struck a nerve with me. Inspired me to write poetry at the time. Years later, when I was living in Sweden and read that Brautigan put a bullet in his head in his house in Bolinas, I actually cried. We really lost something when we lost him.

But by that time I discovere the Beats, all the coffee houses had disappeared and didn’t reappear for thirty-five more years and there were no venues outside of the big cities where one could test their wares onstage. And when they did finally reappear, I was a very serious person pursuing a life deep in the world of the bourgeoisie, happily married to a very stable and beautiful woman who saved me from my dissolute youth.

LOL. Life. Thanks to running into the Beats at a young age, I my perspective has been much richer and I believe I’ve seen more through the veil of mediocrity. And that’s really what they were about. Not just protesting mediocrity, but seeing beyond the veil into what was really important and what was real. Cowen, Brautigan, and to some extent Ginsberg were telling us in no uncertain terms that it’s there, and pulled back the curtain for us to see it.

I think what I later heard from the stage was Beat-like poetry. Not many have got beyond the protest stage. Life’s shit, unfair, blah, blah. That’s not what they were about. That’s just where they started from.

TJBM has a favorite poet—Beat, or otherwise—they would like to tell us about.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Wow. LOL. I just found The First Third by Neal Cassady on the net in pdf format. So, I didn’t dream it up, afterall. It will be interesting to see how it stands up after I’ve lived almost fifty years in the interim since I last read it.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

William Blake from high school
‘TIGER, tiger, burning bright. In the forests of the night,’

TJBM remembers reading passages in high school and will share what they were.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Yes. I had to memorize Frost’s Birches. It didn’t mean a lot to me then. It was just another assignment. But when Gail died, I remembered it well. The second half, which goes:

So was I once myself a swinger of birches.
And so I dream of going back to be.
It’s when I’m weary of considerations,
And life is too much like a pathless wood
Where your face burns and tickles with the cobwebs
Broken across it, and one eye is weeping
From a twig’s having lashed across it open.
I’d like to get away from earth awhile
And then come back to it and begin over.
May no fate willfully misunderstand me
And half grant what I wish and snatch me away
Not to return. Earth’s the right place for love:
I don’t know where it’s likely to go better.
I’d like to go by climbing a birch tree,
And climb black branches up a snow-white trunk
Toward heaven, till the tree could bear no more,
But dipped its top and set me down again.
That would be good both going and coming back.
One could do worse than be a swinger of birches.

I posted it on her memorial thread. It was a posthumous homage to her favorite poem, A Summer’s Day, by Mary Oliver, which ended in the challenging lines—

Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

TJBM has another favorite poem.

Let’s start it out low and slow!!!

I have some steaks onboard. I throw them on the hibachi at the stern. Rub some S&P and spices into them. Anybody have a problem with garlic?

As to the question: No, not from where I live. But at the moment, I can see the lights Kingstown, Saint Vincent off my port quarter. Republic of Saint Vincent and Grenadine Islands.

Hi Mimi..good to see you again.
@Patty_Melt Thanks for the cheering section.
@Espiritus_Corvus Haha…good old song.

TJBM will now say ” Goodnight”. I am sorry guys but had a party day at the lake and am wiped out and sunburned, gotta crash but I will look forward to a fluther couch potato day tomorrow.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

NO! Wait! You gotta tell us about your adventure on the USS Poontang!

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Man, you weren’t kidding. I do believe you’ve fallen asleep at the wheel.

Coloma's avatar

Okay…but I must go to bed after the bedtime story kids. LOL
Lets see. Got to the lake about 10 a.m. and launched the Poontang. Perfect day, started overcast but warm and then the clouds burned off mid-afternoon and revealed a beautiful sky.

Brought scads of food, potato salad, BBQ chicken and hot dogs, friends amazing home made cole slaw, chips, dips, crackers, brie, blue cheese. Cracked a beer at 11, the water was 75 degrees, had my Swan drink floaty. haha
The boat actually does about 28mph, not bad for a Pontoon. Swam a little, fished a little, helped a guy bail out his bilge in his speed boat, cruised around, lots of coves and sat on the deck and watched all the other party boats on the lake. I wore my cool new purple Tevas too. haha

TJBM likes mountain lakes.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Yes I do. I miss the cold, crisp ones in the Sierras especially.

Thank you for your patience, Coloma. It sounds like you had an excellent and tiring day. Good times.

Good night, Cowgurl

TJBM wishes Coloma a restfull sleep.

snowberry's avatar

Absolutely! Welcome back @Coloma!

TJBM can recite poetry by heart.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I do. But I specialize in soliloquies. I suppose I’m a frustrated stage actor. Edmund’s little speech to his father in Act IV of A Long Day’s Journey into Night is a great one. Robert Shaw’s speech as gritty shark hunter Quint in Jaws was great.

“Japanese submarine slammed two torpedoes into her side, Chief. We was comin’ back from the island of Tinian to Leyte. We’d just delivered the bomb… I know that one very well.

Prospero’s soliloquy in Act IV of the Tempest is one of my favorites. I always thought it would look great on a wise man’s or woman’s tombstone, someone who has really lived a life and learned from it:

Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp’d towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.

I had a friend, an old community theater actor. We used to go into bars and coffee houses and do a scene from Analyze This. We’d sit at the bar in front of the barrista (it worked great on young women), have a cup of coffee or a couple of drinks, then when it came time to pay the check and she was waiting for one of our cards, I’d start fumbling around and we go into this routine:

Me: So, did you take care of that thing I asked you about?

Him: It’s all right to talk business here?

Me: It’s okay.

Him: I took care of it.

Me: How about the other thing?

Him: I gotta wait for the first thing to come through, before I can move on the second thing.

Me: That guy give you a problem or…?

Him: The guy on the first thing?

Me: Yeah.

Him: He’s a lunatic.

Me: What did he say?

Him: The usual.

Me: Did you tell him you weren’t going for it?

Him: What am I gonna do, Paul?

Me: You gotta nip that shit right in the bud.

Him: But if the first thing comes through, that’ll fix everything.

Me: Exactly. Including the second thing.

Him: Absolutely.

Me: Exactly.

Then we’d both turn to the barista and look at her real seriously as if we thought maybe she heard too much. It was hillarious. The scareder they looked, the heavier we tipped them.

TJBM has done some acting.

Mimishu1995's avatar

TJBM has done some acting.

Coloma's avatar

No but I probably could.

TJBM has done some singing and dancing.

snowberry's avatar

Not really, but I took ballet for a while when I was a kid.

TJBM will tell us another poem.

Coloma's avatar

An original. Witten for my pet geese Marwyn, Babby & Sonora once upon a tme.

Corn before bed unless you are dead.

Corn in the morning
but no corn in the day
These geese are quite persuasive when they do not get their way.

So I try and use some reasoning
explain the where’s and whys
but they only squawk and clamor
staring back through beady eyes

I feel so very helpless
as they stare up at my face
and it’s my own damn doing
that’s got me in this place.

I tell them that I know what’s good
what’s right for their digestion
but they simply turn away
rejecting my suggestion.

I tell them that the heat of day
combined with too much grain
causes waterfowl explosions
and agonizing pain.

Their brains do not compute this
that brunch is only grass and greens
nor that it’s up to me to save them
not let them live beyond their means.

I hold onto my deep resolve
I will not break or bend
as I extend an offering
to pacify my friends.

It may ot be the golden jewels they
they dream of in their beds
but in it’s place I present…
a slice of bread instead.

Emotions rise to fevered pitch
arousing much commotion
but I’m content in knowing that
I’ve proven my devotion.

And so it comes to pass
another summer day
another ritual enacted
in exactly the same way.

The over doting mother
keeper of the corn
that promises delight and joy
or punishment and scorn.

TJBM will write a poem about their pet.

snowberry's avatar

I’m sorry! I am not a good poem writer! But I offer up this one instead. It’s one of my favorites.

.
The Cruise Of The Spun-Glass Ship
.

The Man-Next-Door came into the room

where the boy in the Wheel-Chair sat.

He grinned at the boy and the boy grinned back

as they started their hour’s chat.

“Which hand will You have?” said the Man-Next-Door,

“The left hand or the right,

For one is empty and one is full?”

The boy laughed with delight.

His small, thin face grew rosy bright

as he pondered the problem well,

The right or the left, the empty or full?

Only his choice could tell.

“I’ll take them both,” he laughed at last

and his voice was a joyous skip;

The Man-Next-Door held out his hand

and gave him…a spun-glass ship.

A spun-glass ship as frail as smoke

but, oh, so gallant and trim

With ropes and spars all set to sail

to the edge of the sky’s far rim.

“Now, where shall we go?” said the Man-Next-Door

as he spread a world-wide map,

“To Borneo or the Lands of Snow or the tiny Isle of Yap?

For You are the Captain; I’m the Crew,

and we sail wherever You say,

To the Arctic Seas or the Caribbean or to distant Buzzard’s Bay.”

“Oh wait ! I know where I want to go,”

the Boy-in-the-Wheel-Chair said,

“To Christmas Isle for a little while.

It’s in a book I read.”

So they rode away on the spun-glass ship

with dreams for wind in the sails,

While the one man crew told the Captain Bold

many exciting tales

Until it seemed that they more than dreamed

under the magic spell

Of the land where it’s Christmas all year long…

and Fourth of July as well.

They sailed to Hither, and Thither, and Yon,

to the North and the South and the West,

But of all the world it was Christmas Isle

that the Captain loved the best.

And the boy forgot the dull wheel-chair

and the ever present pain

As they made the trip in the spun-glass ship

in storm and sun and rain.

But the kindly eyes of the Man-Next-Door

were filled with anxious fears

And his cheery grin was a mask to hide

the ache of unshed tears

For he saw too well how the Captain Bold

grew wearier every day

And how his laugh was a wistful smile

as their dream-ship sailed away.

He came one day to the quiet room

and called his “Ship Ahoy!”

But his voice was hushed as his quick glance fell

on the face of the wheel-chair boy.

For the small thin face was white and still…

but clutched in the frail hand’s grip

With it’s sails all set for another cruise

was the gallant spun-glass ship.

“Bon voyage,” said the Man-Next-Door,

“You’ve sailed without your Crew.

Oh, Captain, may the winds be kind

and the skies be ever blue.

May the final trip of the spun-glass ship

ride swift with the ocean’s swell

To the land where it’s Christmas all year long…

and Fourth of July, as well.”

Don Blanding written in 1937

For those who are interested, here’s the backstory of this poem.

Don Blanding was a well known radio personality. One of his biggest fans was a little boy with a fatal disease. He promised one day to meet him, but the boy died shortly before he finally found the time to go. Don wrote this poem in remembrance.

TJBM promises never again put off keeping a promise.

Coloma's avatar

I don’t make promises so its easy to keep them. haha

TJBM doesn’t believe in making promises.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I do, but very carefully. A person’s word is important. My own word is even more important.

TJBM will be out bicycling today.

Coloma's avatar

^ Agreed.

No bicycling for me but I am in the middle of major flower bed work, have a giant pile of leaves and deadheaded roses and all sorts of garden stuff to work on today.

TJBM will be gardening today.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Nope. Not today. I would like to be bicycling Mustique today, but I have to sail to Bequia, the next island north.

TJBM will be gardening today.

Coloma's avatar

Haha…just was, in and out here. My pile is growing smaller.

TJBM knows this wonderful old tune.

Strauss's avatar

Yes, what a gem! @Coloma, you just created my gardening playlist for me!

TJBM will share their work music playlist.

Coloma's avatar

@Strauss is going for the playlist..but..I offer this hideous little gem I found.

Yes, this is what I have to say…

TJBM thinks this guy has to be the worst singer of all time. LOL

www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D5148rRIkw

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Jesus, how do you find these things, C? Those poor, long suffering Baptists. Somebody should tell them that isn’t singing. That’s what the Saudi intelligence agency uses to get information out of people.

TJBM [everyone except Coloma] will share their playlist.

Coloma's avatar

@Espiritus_Corvus Hey..you’re insulting the next greatest love of my life. There’s just something mesmerizing about that guy. LOL ;-)

Okay..I’m going for some Clapton here, while I continue my gardening outside my back door.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHWy7jtB3uQ

TJBM has a wok.

Coloma's avatar

Okay..I’m on a roll here for absolute worst musical non-talent of all time. Just for fun…if you make it to 3:40 it gets really good. LOL

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItMJtA8vfpw

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

NO! NO MORE! I’LL TALK, I’LL TALK!! COLOMA DID IT! I SWEAR TO GOD. SHE PLANNED IT AND USED HER EXPERTISE IN SENSUAL MASSAGE TO GET US TO DO WHATEVER SHE WANTED! Please stop. (whimper), please!

I have woks both at home and on the boat. It’s much better and faster than the microwave, and you can just thow in leftovers or anything that’s going to go bad, and either eat it or put it back in the fridge. You’ve just doubled it’s shelf life. I love risotos, hash, and flash fried anything with my favorite sauces and spice. Paella takes half the normal time to prepare in a wok. It works well with the hibachi. On nights when I get home late and tired, the wok is the goto for a quick, hot, tastey and balanced meal. And when the pirates put us under fire, it doubles as a combat helmut.

TJBM has more music for a sailor at sea with a first mate who is threatening to take over the sound system..

Coloma's avatar

Here ya go Crow man. haha Note to self: If I ever consider joining an old farts choir I will lay me down in green pastures full of rattlesnakes. LOL

www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5MAg_yWsq8

TJBM will find another cliche sailing sing for the spirit man.

Patty_Melt's avatar

I found this instead. Dance, Crow?
TJBM will dance.

Coloma's avatar

No, I will not. I just came in from finishing yard work and am a hot mess. haha

TJBM is a hot mess.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Hot mess… hmmmm. Nope, I’m cool. Got a nice wind blowing off the humidity, no squalls in sight, We’re keeping our heading and the stars will be out soon. And I’ll be leaving behind me a stream of sparkling icy blue stars on a blanket of black velvet. I’m Chill, man.

TJBM is chill, man.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I’m chill at the moment. I was sick last night and I took some drug and now I feel better. Man, you can’t fuck with the weather can you?
TJBM knows that people can die of weather.

Coloma's avatar

Yes, so can pets.

TJBM has a sinus headache.

Strauss's avatar

Nope, no headache here.

TJBM will tell us what they’re listening to right now .

Soubresaut's avatar

Crickets! :) And some street noise in the background.

TJBM will tell us what they’re listening to right now.

Coloma's avatar

A Korean subtitled thriller on Netflix. Won the Cannes.

TJBM likes foreign films.

Strauss's avatar

Yes. I prefer them subtitled, because you still get the aural experience that was intended.

TJBM likes film noir.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I think you all already know the answer <big grin>
TJBM likes film noir too.

Coloma's avatar

Yes!

TJBM can hear a dog barking in the night.

Patty_Melt's avatar

A few minutes ago, but not now.
TJBM likes Jackie Chan movies.

Coloma's avatar

I adore Jackie Chan! I love he and Owen Wilson in Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Nights.

TJBM believes that I really am going to bed now.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I believe. So I say good night :)
TJBM will say good night to me too.

Coloma's avatar

Goodnight Mimi…sweet dreams, no machine guns under your pillow. haha

TJBM is going, going,—going, going, go…zzzzzz—-

Strauss's avatar

GOOD MORNING FLUTHER!

TJBM will say “Good morning Fluther!”

Coloma's avatar

Good morning Fluther! Looks like @Strauss has fallen asleep at the keyboard. LOL

TJBM is still wakin’ up with Folgers in their cup Okay, no Folgers, Don Francisco Butterscotch Toffee.

SergeantQueen's avatar

I just had a coffee, an iced mocha. Yummy. I got it from a cute little coffee shop, that I’ve never been to before today.

TJBM loves small coffee shops.

Coloma's avatar

I don’t go to any often but I do love my old bakery coffee shop with internet. Love going there for a bagel and coffee and cafe time.

TJBM has one hour to get it together before they have something to do.

snowberry's avatar

No, waiting for friends to arrive. I’m ready!

TJBM spilled something.

Coloma's avatar

Haha…how’d you know? Yesterday I picked up a diet soda from a local fast food place and the damn thing fell out of my cup holder on my cars console and soaked my new white summer dress and went all over the seats and floor of my car. I was SO MAD! haha

TJBM has had some sort of accident recently.

snowberry's avatar

No, but it seems a lot of drivers around us want to have one! It’s nuts!

TJBM has well trained pets.

Coloma's avatar

Yes, my two cats have impeccable manners and never jump on the counter tops or scratch the furniture.

TJBM sees my fuzzy monster “Myles” in my avatar.—I just posted that pic. for a cat shedding Q. somewhere else. haha—

snowberry's avatar

I did! He’s lovely!

TJBM has unusual pj’s.

Mimishu1995's avatar

What is pj?
TJBM talks in technical terms.

Coloma's avatar

Pjs are shot for Pajamas, bedtime clothing.

Not usually, no. haha

TJBM will tell us what their PJs look like.

Strauss's avatar

Sometimes my pajamas are
look like my birthday suit.

TJBM’ s pajamas resemble their birthday suit.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Sometimes, yes.
TJBM has seen the movie Moana.
I finally saw it. It is wayyyy more movie than I expected. I love it!

Coloma's avatar

Yes, i loved it too, I took my 10 year old friend to see it a few months ago now.

TJBM loves animated disney movies.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Not as much as I used to. They are getting more and more formulated. Sure, it still has the feel, but I can no longer be surprised by anything, and the feeling doesn’t linger.
But then again I’m much more morbid than I used to be…
TJBM will tell us how their movie taste evolved.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Man, this place sure is quiet today…

Dutchess_III's avatar

Well I went from being adolescently fascinated with crazy theories about things like The Bermuda Triangle to appreciating actual documentaries.

TJBM is astonished that this game is still going on after all these years and thinks someone deserves an award.

Coloma's avatar

Sure, @Mimishu1995 is the one that’s kept it going forever now.

TJBM has comany for the weekend. oooh, a little too much fun last night for us here. haha

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Nope. I’ve been the company for the past few days. It’s work for me this weekend on the Bequia to Dominica run.

Mimi gets the prize for keeping this game going for the past few years. All hail Mimi!

TJBM is taking it easy this weekend.

Mimishu1995's avatar

All hall your godmother! ~
Actually weekend has become my work time these days. Just a requirement of my job. It just feels weird to be free on weekday though.
TJBM has a strange job.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Quite nomal for down here. Chartering a boat as a captain is closely related to the hospitality industry in many ways—only I don’t have the luxury of kicking someone out of my restaurant if they become unruly. If I do that, they end up in deep water far from land. I must admit I am sometimes tempted to do this, especially when they have too much to drink, lose their shit and begin to destroy my property, but the possible charge of murder at sea tends to bring me to my senses. Add LOL here.

TJBM is in the hospitality business.

Dutchess_III's avatar

No. I’m in the gramma business.

TJBM reflects on their life.

Patty_Melt's avatar

LOTS
TJBM needs a beautiful sunset, like they usta see.
Is is me, or are there no spectacular sunsets any more?

Dutchess_III's avatar

There are around here.

TJBM would post sunset pictures they have taken if they were at their desktop.

Coloma's avatar

Awesme pictures Crow man. :-)

Here is the garden here in my avatar, taken yesterday.

TJBM has a big garden.

Mimishu1995's avatar

My garden is so small it isn’t qualified as a garden. In fact, it’s just a bunch of plants standing together.
@Espiritus_Corvus You got an awesome camera. It looks like those photos on Google.
TJBM is good at photography.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I used to be when I was about your age. Invested in a good camera, a few lenses. I had an ancient enlarger picked up at a garage sale. I liked micro work. The minute animal life found on plants, etc. And I liked secretly shooting old people on park benches, talking to others or feeding the birds.

In those days you relied on different speeds of film, manual focus, fstops, different lenses and filters. It’s not that interesting to me these days. A photographer is an observer occupied with the shot. You miss a lot of life if you only observe. I found that I’d rather be living the shot, but not necessarily in it. Besides, a decent cell phone and a free photo editing app can pretty much do in seconds what took me hours in the darkroom to accomplish, and then you’d have to wait for the prints to dry overnight.

I find sketching scenes more interesting. Interpretation. And you can go home and think about the moment or subject of the sketch for awhile before you sketch it. Much more convenient and it doesn’t draw attention to you.

Those pictures came off google images. I have, however, experienced sunsets like the ones I posted, in the places described.

The fourth on the list is an example of the haze we get during the spring when the winds come predominantly from the East, off the African coast. That wind carries fine, white Sahara sand with it and bleaches out the sun and horizon in the daytime and the sunsets can look very dirty.

The second to last isn’t mine, but dramatic sunsets like that occur down here, most often in the winter when the winds come from the north or west.

And the red sky at night thing isn’t often true down here. It’s the cloud shapes, height and direction of the wind that counts. Number five is a good example of this. You can plainly see a squall line nearly taking up the whole left portion of the picture. That line of storms miles behind it will be troublesome later that night. “Red sky at night, Sailor’s delight. Red sky in the morning, Sailor’s warning.” Not true down here in the Caribbean.

TJBM knows how to read the weather.

Coloma's avatar

A little maybe, I know when a storm is coming and the winds pick up it means it is sailing in at a good clip, otherwise I just look at the sky and consult Accuweather and radar. Cloudy with a chance of meatballs here now. haha

TJBM had a big weekend and is going to need a few days to get up to full seed again.

Patty_Melt's avatar

No. I fall a lot. Over a week ago I nearly fell, but somehow my one usable leg prevented me from hitting the floor. Something very painful happened. Now I am in terrible pain sitting, standing, lying in bed. I thought it was injury to muscle or tendon, but now I am thinking maybe I dislocated my hip. I am having to get around without depending on either leg, using my crutches and just bringing my legs along for balance.
If things don’t improve soon I’m gonna have to get with my doc.
TJBM has a secret lab where they will build a new body to house my brain.

Dutchess_III's avatar

M. Well, it’s not a secret. It’s called my womb, but it’s closed for business now.

TJBM thinks physics is miraculous.

Strauss's avatar

Miraculous physics…yes.

TJBM thinks the human body shows some miraculous physics.

Coloma's avatar

Yep, animals too. I once had a hen that got grabbed by a Coyote and though she managed to get away the Coyote tore a fist sized chuck of flesh out from under her wing leaving a gaping hole about 4 inches wide and several inches deep. I thought she was a goner but..I cleaned and disinfected the wound, put her on some water soluble antibiotics, wrapped her injury and put her in a screened box to keep the flies away and within 3 weeks the wound had completely filled in a closed up. It was amazing!

TJBM has has recovered from a serious injury in their life.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Serious? I’m still here, so they couldn’t have been that serious. Couple of car crashes, some broken bones, the gout and periodic bouts of malaria are a bitch but not injuries per se. I guess the most serious, according to the doctors, was the damage done by two heart attacks, twenty years apart. The worst part is when they put you under for an angioplasty or stent, and you really don’t know if you’re coming back. Especially when you’ve seen patients just die on the table when the team does everything right. That’s a bit scary. I don’t feel damaged, I can still show the whippersnappers a thing or two. LOL. I feel extremely lucky that I’ve never seriously injured my back, or experienced chronic pain. I’m one lucky sonuvabitch.

TJBM is one lucky sonuvabitch.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I’m not a sonuvabitch, that’s not my gender :p I have to reconsider the lucky part though.
TJBM has a life-and-death story.

Coloma's avatar

A few yes, I have managed to escape dying from some pretty hairy horse wrecks/falls over the years, a couple near drownings in some raging rivers, and once, a car went off a small cliff and rolled down a hill while camping, landing upside down in the exact spot we almost pitched our tent. That was quite unnerving.

TJBM wears polka dot underwear.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Not lately.
When I was in the Navy we had random pee tests. We knew the day before, but not who would get pulled until the day of. I always wore “party” underwear to keep the mood light for the poor girl who had to watch me “go.”
We were friends, and she appreciated the levity.
TJBM has to “go” now, because I mentioned it.

Coloma's avatar

Just went. haha
Almost 10 a.m. here and having my last cup of coffee. Still tired from the weekend.

TJBM is still tired from their weekend.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Um. Yeah. Just tired, period.

TJBM needs to get something done and they are dreading it.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Just did it. I like to impress the local Coasties by easing my 42 footer gently into the dock under sail. LOL. Just so they know that I know what the fuck I’m doing and I’m not just another millionaire amateur with a nice boat. Impresses the hell out of them. It’s a nice first impression.

TJBM likes to make a good first impression when dealing with authorities.

Coloma's avatar

I never deal with authorities but I do tease the security guards in stores that look bored. Ask them if they’d like me to run out the door with a dress or something to liven up their dull day. haha
Impressive Crow, getting the Pontoon to the dock last week was more finesses than I possess for sure. I actually dreamed I was on the boat alone a few days later and was panicking because I didn’t know wtf I was doing. LOL

TJBM likes water plants. I just bought a cool new ceramic pot and put a Baumea rubiginosa reed in it, the effect is charming.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Not really, but my fish like them. They like having a place to hide.
TJBM has fish.

Mariah's avatar

I do! I even have baby fish right now. https://i.imgur.com/J8H1Nmf_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=high

TJBM had hot weather today.

Strauss's avatar

Not as hot as yesterday, but true to the Old Farmers Almanac the weather this month has been hotter and wetter than usual.

TJBM will share the local weather trends in their area this month, and also share their area or region.

Coloma's avatar

Northern CA. Sierra Nevada foothills. Crazy pattern here. It was in the 50’s-low 60’s with clouds, wind and some T-storms the last 3 days and now we are going up, up, up, hitting close to 100 by Fri, and over the weekend Ugh…hell is coming. haha

@Mariah Cute little fishey, what is it? Is there only one?

TJBM is hungry and needs a snack.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Just finishing a Snickers Rockin’ nut Road bar. Mmmmm, almonds.
TJBM is standing in front of the fridge.

Coloma's avatar

Haha, no, I JUST got a bowl of cherries and some almond M&M’s and am now lying on all my pillows in bed with some nice mood lighting having my snack while the sprinklers are going for another hour.

TJBM is gearing up for a heat wave.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Don’t know how long I have been there…
TJBM will save me from boiling.

AshLeigh's avatar

I’ll send you some of this cold weather.
TJBM is writing a graphic novel.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Kind of. I’m learning to use my drawing tablet and I need a story to push the drawings going. I don’t care if the story is shit, I’m more concerned about how I can draw.
TJBM is passionate about something.

Coloma's avatar

A few things yes.
I had Fritos today @Mimishu1995 To Puggy Jesus! haha

TJBM likes Fritos.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I do. I rarely eat them, though. There aren’t a lot of opportunities to buy them here. Loved them when I was a kid. I had a small pack about ten years ago from an airport vending machine. I was starving and didn’t have time to eat between planes. I think I paid like two-fifty for about twelve bloody little corn chips in a dinky little pack. I was shocked at how salty they were. I didn’t remember that from my childhood. I think Frito-Lay might be in cahoots with Coca-Cola. Anyway, after about the fourth chip, I got over it.

If you’re ever out of candles, though, put one Frito in a saucer or small ceramic dish and light one end up. It will burn brightly for a long time. Consider a pack of Fritos a lot of really cheap, really good candles. Any deep fried corn chip will do, but Fritos burn especially bright and long.

TJBM already knew that.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Know what EC? That you like Fritos or that Fritos can burn?
But thanks to you EC, I have another reason to justify my chip fetish! @Coloma, give the Fritos to me! I want to be Jesus!
TJBM has every reason to justify a liking.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

@Mimishu1995 I just discovered what happened to snowberry the other night. I sent her to the wrong bloody chatroom. What an idiot I am. When I get some coffee in me, I’ll PM her. Damn. What an idiot.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Hope she won’t get too mad :p

Coloma's avatar

I do, I am the queen of rationalization if I want something. haha

@Espiritus_Corvus haha, poor Snowberry, and the word ” dinky”..LOL, I haven’t heard that word in years, reminds me of my mother, she said that a lot. haha

TJBM thinks that assumptions and presumptions are the demons of productive conversation.

Mimishu1995's avatar

If you mean “jumping into conclusion too quicky”, then it’s the real demon. I always try to think of as many possibilites as possible and try to narrow them down by further proof. That’s what keeps my cool most of the time.
TJBM will give us a time for another Film Club chat.

Coloma's avatar

EC and I are watching ” Shanghai Noon” an American comedy western tonight at 7 p.m. my time. P.M. EC if you want to join us the movie is free on Youtube. :-)

TJBM is a movie fan.

Patty_Melt's avatar

I have a Jackie Chan collection. My daughter and I did a back to back the other day of Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Nights. I like Crime Story a lot. There are some interesting looks at China culture. The Medallian is pretty cool.

TJBM speaks some Chinese.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I learned a few words over the years, but have forgotten those words from disuse. I remember one name, Jīnshān, the name for California the Chinese used from the mid-19th century until about the 1930’s. It literally means “Gold Mountain”.

TJBM is against the removal of Confederate Civil War monuments in the southern States.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

金山 <—I just wanted to see if we could post Chinese lettering here. It’s pronounced approximately as Zheen Shan. Gold Mountain.

Patty_Melt's avatar

I go back and forth on the monument issue.
I think some things should be kept as is, however much they may hurt. I think about history lost because of statues beheaded in war, names stricken from ancient texts, and for furure knowledge I think stuff already done should not change.
The “n” word is one of those things. I can agree with not using it anymore, but movies and shows which used it back in the day should not have it bleeped out. It offers a timeline which shows how things have changed.
With no opinion whatsoever about whether the south was wrong, they fought a war. They were Americans. They had victories, and losses, and monuments should not be removed.
Obama visited memorials in Japan without resentment.
SoooooOoOoooOo
TJBM is also watching The Wall.(the tv show)

Mimishu1995's avatar

They don’t show obscure TV show I’m afraid.
TJBM will tell us about a TV show in their place.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Island Secrets: The Caribbean.; is the most popular TV show here. It’s a soap. Although the characters and stories are fictitious, the producers intend to show the real life struggles that Caribbean people face, despite the paradise that surrounds them. It will never be seen in the US because it’s about foreigners acted by foreigners. Black foreigners. But the music is really good.

TJBM wonders why this thread died suddenly last week.

Strauss's avatar

I do wonder!...Although I was a little too busy to notice until it showed up on my “Activities for you” link.

TJBM has suffered a recently lost a pet.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I see my fish die now and again. But it doesn’t hit me too hard. There are too many of them and most don’t care for an emotional bond.
YAY! The thread is back!
TJBM will keep the game up.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Where the f#%@ have you guys been???!!!!!
TJBM will make some lame ass excuse for being gone so long.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I was busy shooting down spams…
TJBM has another excuse.

Strauss's avatar

My dog died.

TJBM will help me find a new puppy

Patty_Melt's avatar

To become big, or stay little?
TJBM had a headache, but it is gone now.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I had a helluva one a couple of weeks ago. Partied a bit too hard and had my first hangover in decades. It was like the worst case of the flu ever. A couple of days of intense hydration shortened the suffering.

TJBM thinks @Strauss should take his time and comb the animal shelters for his next dog because some of the best dogs are found in animal shelters.

Mimishu1995's avatar

So sorry for @Strauss and wish him good luck on finding a new friend. Actually I’m not versed in that kind of stuff EC. Most pets are bought in pet stores in my place. I don’t even know a real animal shelter.
TJBM has a pet.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Ha ha. I have five young bunnies running around my back yard. They were born in the front yard about three weeks ago. The grass got pretty tall while I waited for them to get big enough to run to the back yard for cover so I could mow. I have a depression in the center my front yard which is perfect for baby bunnies.
TJBM has had hossenpheffer, and can also spell it correctly.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Well, I haven’t had it since I was in Sweden. I usually don’t eat my meat soured like that, with a vinegar. Not bad, though. They call it Hasenpfeffer. I might do it soon sometime, with another kind of meat. No hares here. I haven’t thought of it until you mentioned it. Not bad at all.

TJBM has had rabbit, squirrel, or opossum stew.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Rabbit and squirrel, also roast rabbit.
The farm where I lived as a child, we had huuuuuuuge bunnies, and lots of them. Our border collie kept them well exercised. Our squirrels were bossy. My dad was squeamish about hunting, so he only did during the meat crisis of the mid 70’s. A lot of game would take refuge on our farm.

TJBM is watching tornado activities this week.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Water Spouts, maybe. But this time of the year, what we watch down here is This. Tornadoes are much more violent, but hurricanes are bigger and last longer. For me, I would prefer to be at ground zero of a hurricane than a tornado. You have a better chance of surviving, I think.

The link is to a photo of today’s radar. It’s about to rain cats and dogs here for the next few days.

TJBM has their own weather problems.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Watched this coming in night before last. A bit worried because there was no basement in the house I was in, and my daughter and two of the grandkids were sleeping inside.

TJBM isn’t usually scared of the weather.

Mimishu1995's avatar

No. I survived through so many storms already.
TJBM has no problem with the weather.

Strauss's avatar

Loving it. There’s a little more rain than we’re used to around here, but that’s not a complaint by any stretch.

TJBM has no complaints.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Oh, a couple.

TJBM messed up today.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Nope. I did well. We’re having weather and I put the boats in better moorings with fore and aft anchors.

TJBM is having typical summer weather.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yeah. Tornadoes one day, snow the next.

TJBM loves thunderstorms

Patty_Melt's avatar

I do. They make my heart race. I don’t even mind downed trees, so long as there is no property damage. It is nice to see a neighborhood get together with saws and rakes and pitch in to clean it up.
When lightning flashes, I like to try to guess if its thunder will crackle, rumble, or boom.
TJBM will pretend to be thunder and describe whether they are a crackle, a rumble, or a boom.

Dutchess_III's avatar

The lightning crackles, the thunder rumbles then it BOOMS!!!!!!!!!!!

TJBM will pretend to be a dog that has a sense of smell that is 40 times sharper than humans, and they will describe what they smell.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Teenager. She is in the room, and they have a distinct odor. Ego, confusion, dissatifaction, hormones, anxiety, and impatience all wrapped in sweat, makeup, and hair dye.
TJBM will dance now, and tell us, what music are you groovin’, jammin’, swooning, hopping to?

Mimishu1995's avatar

Sadly I will dance to this, if you know what I mean.
TJBM knows that Sneki is back!

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

No, I didn’t know that. Thanks. I just tracked her down and pointed her first three answers.

TJBM thinks we should have a movie night to celebrate and watch one of Sneki’s animated films. (Everyone who is interested is invited)

Patty_Melt's avatar

Although I cannot join the party, I think it is a great idea.
I saw sneki is back, and I am glad.
TJBM will tell their most recent public embarrassment.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Sunday, ok EC? I’m on my work days now.
And my most recent embarrassment is when I can’t explain new words to my students. Teachers have their moment right?
TJBM is interested in watching a movie in chat.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Is that even possible?

TJBM has been invited to their first party of the summer.

Strauss's avatar

Yep. A friend wants me to help break in his new smoker/grill.

TJBM would like me to smoke something for them.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Yeah, LOL. You gotta be phishing for this answer:

How about smoking some of that fine, legal Colorado pharmaceutical weed, then tell us about it. I see there are a million different kinds, from Sativa to Indica to Ruderalis, on store shelves there. You could write a weekly critique.

@Mimishu1995: Sunday it is. Just waiting to see if she wants to view it at 0200 or 1400 Serbian time (GMT +2hrs). Once that question is answered, anyone who wants to view it with us can see it HERE We’ll be watching the animated version of Watership Down.

TJBM wants @Strauss to get back to us with his weekly critique of Colorado Cannabis products.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

There will be another showing at 7pm Pacific Daylight Time, Sunday. The first showing is for our friends on the other side of the world.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Critique? I want samples!
TJBM just bought a big ticket item. What is it, and are you happy with it?

Mimishu1995's avatar

Can I be late a little EC? I will come at 7:30 p.m. I had a meeting with a friend until then.
Not that I remember :(
TJBM doesn’t feel bothered much by work.

Coloma's avatar

Usually not, I’m a very flexible type, go with the flow, last minute, no problem.

TJBM will welcome me back from my incarceration. haha Awesome, Sneki is back too!

AshLeigh's avatar

Welcome back!
TJBM finds social interactions to be exhausting.

Coloma's avatar

Only if they are boring, if they are lively and the conversation is flowing I find them energizing.

TJBM is an introvert or extrovert, which one?

Mimishu1995's avatar

How about both? There is time when I just want to disappear in a crowd.
TJBM is happy that @Coloma is back.

Coloma's avatar

I am. haha

TJBM has watched the Ken Burns documentary series of the Civil War.

Patty_Melt's avatar

No. Ken Burns fails to impress me. I have seen a few of his docs, and they tend to be disorganized and boring. Sometimes I even feel like his research could have been more complete. PBS touts him heavily, but, meh.

TJBM is down with a blasted summer cold. (Uh, I feel like my whole body is goopy inside. Extra showers aren’t helping much.

Coloma's avatar

Awwww bummer, feel better soon, don’t melt Patty! haha

TJBM has been lucky and hasn’t been sick for over 3 years.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Just about exactly that. However, by our age we’ve built immunities to just about every virus there is so it’s not all that lucky. When I came down with pneumonia in late 2012 I later realized it was probably due to black mold we didn’t realize was in the house. Can’t build an immunity to black mold!

TJBM has lots of immunities built up.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I suppose I do, from all the different climates and different levels of ambient hygiene I’ve exposed myself to. I also have the plethora of artificial immunities, vaccinations, that have been shot into me over the years. Cholera, Typhoid, Tuberculosis, Yellow Fever…I have three noticeable craters in my left shoulder left over from the days when small pox vacs were given to travelers to certain countries. Somehow, I never developed an immunity to malaria, though.

TJBM has a small pox vaccination mark.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I have so many marks I can’t tell which is which.
TJBM is well-vaccinated.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Of course I am. However apparently the small pox vaccination didint leave a scar on me although I distinctly remember getting one. I felt like an outsider all through school.

TJBM has felt like an outsider at times in their lives for dumb reasons.

Mimishu1995's avatar

The dumb reason for me being isolated from high school: I had no feeling for their pop stars. Since when did pop culture knowledge became a standard for virtue?
A dumb reason with a devastating result.
TJBM grew out of pop culture.

Coloma's avatar

Never was into it, I always had my own interests.

TJBM needs a shower.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Dang! I just took one. Oooookay.
TJBM will scrub that spot on my back.

Coloma's avatar

Sure, as long as you don;t have fleas. LOL

TJBM likes true adventure/survival stories.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Some of them I like.

TJBM likes movies about true events, but shot in interesting movie format, rather than just documentary form (although TJMB likes documentaries too.)

Coloma's avatar

Yes. Have you seen the doc/movie “Given”? great film about a little boy traveling with his parents to 15 different places in the world. Spectacular footage and great little story.

TJBM is enjoying their morning coffee still.

Mimishu1995's avatar

No. I’m going to bed to get ready for a tiring day ahead :(
TJBM is going to work.

Strauss's avatar

No, I usually don’t have to, being retired . However, I have done a few favors for a few folks, so it’s time for a garden party. Ms. Strauss with cook, I’ll buy the beer, and all the weed(s) will be smoked burned before lunch.

TJBM will join us at the garden party!

Mimishu1995's avatar

I WANT TO JOIN! But I can’t physically though. How about you killing me by stuff me with virtual food?
TJBM will join too.

Coloma's avatar

I’d love too, I shall bring hard cider and potato salad and my famous cole slaw.

TJBM likes potluck picnics.

snowberry's avatar

I wish. Too many foods I’m allergic to.

TJBM was not aware i dropped off the edge of the earth for a while (long vacation). But never fear, I’m back now!

Coloma's avatar

Yes, I saw your sharing in the movie chat room that you had been gone camping and were, more than ready, to be home again. haha

TJBM is not a camping enthusiast.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Yes, sometimes. I like to get out away from everything now and then when on land. No cell, no Coast Guard bulletins on the radio, no internet, no humans. Just me, Shy, and Sam&Dave, my mare and two border collies. I’m surrounded by forest, so it’s quite easy to disappear into the wild. And my three best friends enjoy the adventure as much as I do. We all have a working relationship, herding sheep and other animals from one nutritious meadow to another and this gives us a chance, especially with Shy and I, to bond in a different way. Sounds crazy, I know, but if you have a close relationship with animals, it is all is very understandable.

I like to live and fantasize like it was a hundred and fifty years ago for a few days. It’s a great mini-vacation and puts the modern world in perspective when I get back. I can easier tell the little shit from the big stuff I must sweat in order to live happier and more carefree.

TJBM avoids reading the details in some of the questions for simplicity sake, and just answers the question as written.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I TRY not to do that. But..sometimes I do. I always appreciate when people read my long ass details. I want to be more like them.

TJBM is a bad jelly sometimes.

Coloma's avatar

I think I’m a great jelly but I can have a low tolerance for some things at times which has lent itself to speaking bluntly on occasion and so I accept I have made a few enemies here and there. Oh well, can’t please everybody nor do I want to. LOL

TJBM is tried of the summer heat and is longing for cooler times.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

LOL. ‘nuff said about that.

TJBM likes the artwork of Robert Crumb.

Strauss's avatar

R. Crumb! Creator of one of my favorite characters…Mr. Natural.

TJBM will twll us their favorite character(s) from comics, animation, anime, hentai manga, etc etc.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

LOL! I KNEW that would bring you out of hiding!!!

Mimishu1995's avatar

Where are you Sneki? :D
I have so many favorite fictional chatacters it’s hard to pick one. Some well-known ones are: Dirty Harry, Phillip Malowe, Sam Spade, Jeff Barley from Out of the Past
Some lesser known characters are:
– The guy in the cover art of The Fire Within EC you know who I’m talking about right :D. He is the protagonist of the movie. He is suicidal, nothing so special here, but it’s why he is suicidal that set him apart. He wants to connect so deeply with people that almost no one can meet his demand. He is just too perceptive of what is wrong with the world for anyone to handle. I may not agree with his viewpoint, but he looks like a nice guy that I can have dinner with.
– A guy called Silien in Le Doulos. He is both a police informer and a criminal. He can be anything he likes. No one can tell him what to do. But he always has people he considers friends in mind. In the movie he works for both sides just to save a friend. He may seems sleazy but at least he isn’t too unrealiable. Oh, and he has super cool attitude too :D
– The hitman in This Gun for Hire. I think @Coloma will like him, he likes cats a lot! He is also loyal to his clients, never reveals their identity unless the clients themselves betray his trust. I like that he has his softer side, the love for cats and the care for some people around him.
Btw, did you notice that all the characters are males?
TJBM has some more favorite fictional characters.

snowberry's avatar

I don’t have any favorites, but my daughter loves Ruroni Kenshin, The Doctor, and Batman.

TJBM willing share their favorite fictional character as well.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Hmmm. Huck Finn.

TJBM will share their favorite real life character with us (whether they’re dead or alive.)

Coloma's avatar

Gotta be my old friend “Frank.” He defies description, intensely intense, super smart, diverse, always into some new and off the wall thing. I love him dearly but he can be exhausting in his ceaseless enthusiasm. He is one of those people that never loses their 4 year old sense of wonderment. I know if I answer the phone we WILL talk for the next 3 hours straight so I have to screen Franks calls to prepare for the right time. LOL

TJBM is having a procrastination day.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Yup, as my old pappy used to say, never do anything today, that you can put off until tomorrow. Sage advice. TJBM will regale us with another wise utterance, that they heard from a relative, or otherwise.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

It went something like this: “We are action verbs. To be is not enough for us. If a human stops moving, they will lose the capacity to move at all. We must always be doing something either physically or working on something in our heads or we are not happy, we are not fulfilled.”—a doctor and friend whom I worked with.

“The greatest force of man is the ability to weave illusions.”—same guy. I had to think about that because it can go both ways. But I believe he is right on both quotes.

TJBM will regale us with another wise utterance, that they heard from a relative, or otherwise.

Coloma's avatar

Until you walk a mile in anthers shoes you don’t have a leg to stand on. Coloma

TJBM is having a meandering day, a little of this, a little of that, a little more of this.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Who is Anthers and what size does he wear?

It’s raining again, so I’m inside sketching the anatomy of the human and arguing with the bank.

TJBM hates to argue with banks and will tell us a bit about their experience doing so.

Coloma's avatar

^ He wears the same size as Norse. LOL

Coloma's avatar

I have not argued with a bank but I have argued with my state controller who has abut 10k of undistributed monies that I cannot, effectively, prove is part of an estate settlement dating back to 2004 inspite of the estate attorneys documentation. Long story but the last go ‘round was this completely inept clerk that told me she would send me a new “table ” to review. I told her as long as she was sending a table she might as send a chair too as I needed something to sit on after banging my head against the wall of bureaucracy for so long. Needless to say she had the humor of a paper towel and the intellect of a goldfish.

TJBM likes pulling weeds.

Strauss's avatar

That seems to be my second main chore in the garden these days, right after watering.

TJBM enjoy extremely hot weather.

Mimishu1995's avatar

You won’t say this when you know what extremely hot weather feels like.
TJBM is getting boiled.

Coloma's avatar

Yes! It is actually cooler today, for a day or two, only about 94, but going for 100–103 again by the end of the week.

TJBM will make it stop.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I have talked to the Gods of land and of the sea, and they are both sick and tired of our complaints. They said this while sitting by a swimming pool sipping Margaritas.

TJBM will post whatever they wish.

Coloma's avatar

Thank you for trying Crow, perhaps they need a sacrificial roast lamb.

Whatever they wish.

TJBM will post their great grandmothers first name.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Ida. Texas, 1850 or so. Rancher of horses and cattle, farmer of cotton. She was once burned out by the Comanches. Her son, Bowman, was born near what became Childress, TX in 1876 and was my mother’s father.

TJBM will give us an interesting bit of family history.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I have a really cool story, but I’m shott of time right now. Be right back in a while.
TJBM will wait for me.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

YES, with bells on.

TJBM will wait for Mimi.

Coloma's avatar

Yes, my day is winding down. @Espiritus_Corvus My great grandmothers name was Ida too! She came across the plains in a covered wagon from Indiana. :-)

TJBM has ancestors that date back to the revolutionary war.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Really? I have a few journals from a woman who came from there to California on a wagon train. You might be interested. I’ll dig them up and email them to you.

Yes, that same family came to Virginia from England in the 1750s, farmed and lawyered in Kentucky after the war, married Irish, Cherokee and German, then on to Texas where Ida married a Swede.

TJBM will wait for Mimi, but in the meantime, will post some family history.

Coloma's avatar

^ Super cool! I love family history stories!

Well, lets see, I am an in-active member of the daughters of the american revolution, am just not all that patriotic these days. haha
Interesting history in my daughters dads side of the family. They had a family member tarred and feathered for impropriety with a young lady way back when. My great grandfather was killed in a buggy accident, apparently he had been nipping at the bottle and ran his rig off the road.

My ex husbands great grandfather invented the, at the time, revolutionary copper seal on canned goods that extended their shelf life to years and his mothers side of the family were one of the pioneering restaurant supply manufacturers that invented the iconic red and yellow squeezy mustard and ketchup dispensers in diners. The company was called ” Toppo” and they made a small fortune. His great grandmother lived the high life in a Manhattan apartment until the late 1970’s when her kids robbed her blind. Quite the scandal. LOL

TJBM likes history.

snowberry's avatar

Yes. I’ll tell another short story.

My grandfather homesteaded in a tent in Idaho when he was 13. He lasted almost a year until he contracted gangrene and almost died.

Oops, almost forgot! TJBM will tell us another story or something from history.

Mimishu1995's avatar

I’m back guys!
OK, the story. You all know that my family has a ritual of going visiting ancestors’ graves on special occasions like New Year. There is an entire flock of land for our ancestors’ graves, if the family manage to put the bodies all together in one place. In that flock of land there is one grave of a woman whose name has nothing to do with the entire family tree. She is visited just like the rest of our ancestors, though with less care.
Her background is a mystery. From what I heard from grandma, she was a very beautiful and talented woman, the embodiment of the Vietnamese’s standard of perfect beauty. What it means could very much be that she was good at some kind of art, could be poem, music instrument, drawing… She got married to someone who could be today’s town mayor. But the marriage wasn’t official and wasn’t meant to be known because he already had a wife by the time they met. Maybe she was frustrated that the marriage wasn’t officially accepted. She then proceeded to develop a relationship with my grandma’s father. It was known among people to be just a close friendship. She was also very close to his children. She used her wit to earn a flock of farmland from the town mayor, and shared the land with the father. The land was meant to belong to the children, but then my grandma’s family has to move for some reason. The farmland was destroyed sometime then. My grandma said she is honored among the ancestors because she was incredibly intelligent, and she was kind to the family.
I have a feeling the “friendship” between the father and the woman was more than what meets the eye, given that she “happens” to be honored among the ancestors. And grandma’s mother died at a very young age, only 32, and the family also moved away. That left a lot of rooms for suspicion. I have a crazy theory that they had an affair and gave birth to some children, who for some reason managed to enter the family without suspicion. Well if that is true, it will explain my desire to make art while no one in my family has any interest in art.
TJBM has another cool story to share.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Jack and Jill went up a hill, to fetch a pail of water. They both fell down, and messed around, and now Jill has a daughter. TJBM will tell us another rousing tale. That rhymes.

Coloma's avatar

Um, no. LOL

TJBM likes Mimis story. I bet you are a secret great grand daughter of the beautiful and talented mysterious lady Mimi. :-D

TJBM is eating candy! crispy M&M’s here

NomoreY_A's avatar

Yes, very intriguing story. And yes I have no bananas, I have no bananas today, or candy either. TJBM will not mention M&Ms no mo’, today. Tain’t hardly right hat all.

snowberry's avatar

Ok! I WILL NOT TALK ABOUT M&M’s HERE! AND I WONT SHOUT IT EITHER!

Whew! I held it in for so long, but that felt so good, I may need to do it again.

snowberry's avatar

Aaaand snowberry did it again.

TJBM will not forget!

Mimishu1995's avatar

I have a better memory than you think. Muhahahahaha!
TJBM knows some dirty secret of their jelly friends and won’t reveal it outside Fluther.

Strauss's avatar

The secret is not what I know, but if I know.

TJBM knows the difference between a connoisseur and a dilletante.

NomoreY_A's avatar

That’s right. See, a vigilante is, uh…a connysure is a, er… hey look, an owl! TJBM will ask no more confusing questions.

snowberry's avatar

Ok. I won’t!

TJBM likes to bird watch. So far this spring we have watched a pair of owls and a pair of hawks raise families. The squirrel population around here was getting a little crazy and they were starting to approach people- never ever a good sign.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Depends on what you mean by birds ; ) TJBM will describe how they fought off a crazed squirrel with a bowie knife.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

No but my brother had a pet squirrel. I was 17 and he was 15. I was at the Dr office because one of my buddies came down with hepatitis (we were going to the ocean twice or three times a week and eating shellfish raw and cooked) so I was getting a shot of gamma globulin. When done I was walking out, I had driven myself. My mom was in the waiting room with my brother and his hand was wrapped up. Guess who got bitten? He got a tetanus shot.

TJBM has another animal story.

Coloma's avatar

<—Desi Lots of them but the most recent was our little, wild, mustang adoptee here, “Desi” a darling little dark bay dapple mare taken off the range in Nevada a year or so ago.
She escaped her paddock when the stall cleaners failed to securely latch the gate. Desi is sweet, likes being petted and hand fed treats but completely untrained as of yet. She will lead on a halter, but is prone to freak outs if she gets spooked.

Luckily she trapped herself in the dead end aisle of the last row of paddocks which we blocked with the golf cart and 2 of us standing shoulder to shoulder while another lured her into the nearest paddock with a bucket of grain. Whew…we were really worried she’d bolt and run off and be very hard to catch. Fortunately we are down a mile long private road but she could have made it out to one of the main streets which has lots of blind curves and a 35mph speed limit which, is rarely respected. Whew!

No wild horse chases that day day, lucky us! haha

TJBM has had or known someone with an adopted BLM mustang.

Strauss's avatar

Don’t know anyone, but I know of a couple bands of mustangs that run on some ranch land near the Four Corners area in SW Colorado.

TJBM is bored today.

Coloma's avatar

No, I am procrastinating though, need to do some banking, grocery shopping and am having a hard time getting motivated. Hunger is driving me forward. Down to condiments, salad dressing, and misc. weirdness. haha

TJBM needs to go grocery shopping.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

No. The debit card I use for personal items has been inexplicably zeroed out. About $2,200 has suddenly evaporated. Arguing with the bank via long distance. It’s been two days.

TJBM is convinced that the mods, either through stupidity and incompetence or misguided allegiances, are killing this site.

Coloma's avatar

Lots of trouble around fluther town recently, all kinds of insanity, yes, I do think there is some bias, absolutely.

TJBM hopes @Espiritus_Corvus gets his banking problems resolved soon.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Well certainly. Don’t know the gent, but I hate to see anyone face financial problems. And in this day and age, the specter of identity fraud always arises when I hear stories like his. TJBM is having a better day, I trust.

Coloma's avatar

I am now that I am home again after running the same gauntlet I run on a near daily basis. Man, this has been one of those weeks, spinning my wheels but not really getting anywhere. LOL

TJBM is sinning their wheels.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Sinning? Well, I never. I have kinda boxed myself in to an appointment with my oldest grand son to go with him out to their place and “go mudding” to check out the new mud tires on his 4 wheel drive truck. Oh, joy. TJBM actually has a life. LOL

Strauss's avatar

I probably have a better life now than I could have anticipated 10 or 15 years ago. In spite of having to drain ny retirement fund a couple times, I’m comfortable, active and loved.

TJBM thinks life is going pretty well in spite of their complaints.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Oh, yeah, man. It could have turned out so much worse. You guys are probably getting tired of hearing this, but I consider myself one lucky bastard compared to a lot of single old guys my age. I am genuinely a happy guy, still curious, still feeling the love, and am very satisfied by the way things turned out.

TJBM counts there blessings regularly.

Strauss's avatar

But only if I use “their” instead of “there”!

Oops! I’m channeling Gail!

TJBM has seen a T shirt that says: “English teacher: I silently correct you as you speak.”

Mimishu1995's avatar

No, and I’m sure I would be lynched if I wore that T-shirt :(
TJBM hates arrogant people who don’t listen.

Coloma's avatar

Yes, but I hate hysterical, emotionally out of control types even more. LOL

TJBM is bug eyed.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Nope. That is a symptom of hyperthyroidism, btw.

TJBM really likes the photography of Mary Ellen Mark

Mimishu1995's avatar

Wow! Her photos remind me of the movies by Jean Luc Godard. They are not necessarily good, but cool and stylist like that.
TJBM hopes EC will have his connection problem resolved and be able to go to the chatroom.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

The connection problems are still there, but I think the bank thing is resolved. That was far more important. As to my present narrow bandwidth, I can do sites without too much data streaming, like Fluther and the chat, but I just can’t do busy sites with a lot of banners and videos running. Like news sites. They won’t open at all.

TJBM likes the humanist photography of Dave Dutton

NomoreY_A's avatar

Yeah, Dave Dutton, he’s the cat who takes pictures of humans, you see. And uh – there’s that damn owl again. Critter turns up a lot, don’t he? TJBM will inform me of who Dave Dutton is.

Coloma's avatar

He’s a humanist photographer. haha

TJBM knows that plants and children grow at night.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Yep. Sleep, REM sleep, is the time for building and repair. It is the time when protein is metabolized best. Without adequate sleep, you can work yourself to death in the gym, but progress will be slow.

TJBM gets adequate sleep.

Coloma's avatar

I try to but summer is hard, I have been moderately sleep deprived for weeks. By the time it gets dark at 9 and waiting for it to cool down to turn off the AC and go to bed, well…I am running on about 7 hours, when I really need 9 to feel my best.
I like winter better where you are ready for bed at a good hour and the sun doesn’t wake you up at 5:30. haha

TJBM needs to wash their car badly.

Mimishu1995's avatar

No, but good luck with your car!
TJBM doesn’t have a car.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I have a car. There is no other transportation in this town, other than walking.

TJBM lives in a small town.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Excuse me for a sec, guys.

I do live in a small town! How did you know?

TJBM is afraid of strangers.

Coloma's avatar

Not in the least unless they appear completely crazy. haha
I am a very non-paranoid type.

TJBM is an easy going type.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Pretty much.

TJBM has lived alone in the country, beyond the ‘burbs.

NomoreY_A's avatar

I have lived in the country, but not alone. Wife and grand kids were there as well. TJBM has a job to go to. Times a wasting.

Coloma's avatar

Nope, not in the moment. I have already had a productive half day so far, made the morning horsey rounds, washed my car, tidied my house, went grocery shopping, dropped by a friends and am now having lunch and then going for a swim.

TJBM is barefoot in the moment.

Dutchess_III's avatar

As usual.

TJBM can walk across almost anything in bare feet, especially as the summer goes on.

Patty_Melt's avatar

That was true when I could walk unassisted. Now that walking issuch a problem for me, my feet have gotten quite tender.

Definitely Polaris. Always there in my hemisphere. Always showing the way home.

TJBM has a favorite star.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Being a gemini, I always kind of had a draw to Caster and Pollux. I think Pollux is my favorite.
TJBM knew that Caster and Pollux were the Troy brothers, two of the bad guys in the movie Face Off, but also the twins in the Gemini constellation.

Strauss's avatar

I did. I knew someone who had a pair of draft horses named Castor and Pollux. They were within day of a year apart, same dam, same sire, Morgan mix. A beautiful team.

TJBM likes horses.

Coloma's avatar

I do.

TJBM loves, loves, loves watermelon!

Strauss's avatar

Absolutely! I have some in the garden. They’re flowering right now!

TJBM will tell us about their garden.

Coloma's avatar

It is huge right now, everything has quintupled in size in the last month. Not too many tomatoes yet, some, but the 15 or so plants are about 5 feet tall and loaded with fruit. We are getting scads of cucumbers, lemon and green, squashes and more tomatoes, peppers and beans soon!

TJBM has an unexplained bruise.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Sometimes. I don’t know where they come from. Superstition tells me that they are ghosts’ bite marks.
TJBM is not superstitious.

Coloma's avatar

No, I’m not, but you ever know.

TJBM is terrible at figuring out time zones around the world.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I don’t want to talk about it, godammit.

TJBM knows the Greek legend of those two rascals, Caster and Pollux.

Mimishu1995's avatar

They are some Greek mythology twin. Pollux happened to inherit Zeus’s immotality. Castor died in a battle and Pollux tried to kill himself but couldn’t because of his immortality. Pollux begged Zeus to let him die. Zeus decided to let the twin take turn to leave each day.
I’m a Gemini btw.
TJBM knows what their star sign is and the legend associate with their star sign.

Coloma's avatar

I am a Capricorn, my planet is Saturn and I just read the Capricorn mythology but it is waay too long to talk about. haha

TJBM has spilled something recently and made a huge mess. I just spilled an entire bottle of water in my bed Grrrr!

NomoreY_A's avatar

Spilled my thermos of coffee on the way put the door to go to work yesterday. My bad. Couldn’t blame it on the usual suspects, either. My grand kids. Tried to, but got busted by a six year old, a nine year old, even a three year old. You did it PawPaw, we saw you! Had to beat a hasty retreat out the door, Running late, you know. TJBM will tell us what their astrology sign is, as that seems to be the topic. That and klutzes spilling coffee. Dang stool pigeon kids.

NomoreY_A's avatar

OK, I’ll do it. I am an Aquarius. The coffee spiller, uh, I mean water bearer. TJBM will tell us how astrology is hokum.

Mimishu1995's avatar

What is hokum?
TJBM knows the difference between astrology and the “astrology” you read on newspapers.

snowberry's avatar

Doesn’t matter to me.

TJBM has friends all over the world.

Coloma's avatar

I do, very fun!

TJBM hates stripping and making their bed.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Stripping is OK, if you’re with the right person. Making the bed isn’t quite as much fun.

TJBM is having a great morning, or afternoon, or evening, or night.

Coloma's avatar

Haha…so far so good. Just finishing my last cup o’ Joe and off to make the rounds here.

TJBM had someone bring them a surprise dinner last night.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Every night for the past two weeks or so. I have a couple staying with me and the wife is a gourmet cook. Every night a surprise, and every night a gourmet meal.

TJBM has seen Plan 9 From Outer Space

CunningFox's avatar

Never have, or even heard of it. Is it good? Old?

TJBM wants to explain Plan 9 From Outer Space.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

LOL. It’s a black and white horror film from 1959. Written, directed and produced by an evidently talentless, Hollywood-obsessed partyboy and con man named Ed Wood, Jr. It has been voted by numerous orgs as the worst film ever made. It is really, really bad.

IMDB Synopsis:
“Aliens resurrect dead humans as zombies and vampires to stop humanity from creating the Solaranite (a sort of sun-driven bomb).”

But that doesn’t even begin to describe how bad this film is.
IMDB Trivia Page

TJBM might be interested in a screening of Plan 9 with other Fluther members.

Coloma's avatar

I love the old B sci-fi movies. I just watched the 1959 “I was a teenage werewolf.”
Michael Landons big intro into fame.

TJBM has heard on Zombeavers. LOL

CunningFox's avatar

Plan 9 sounds so bad it just might be good.

Again, nope, never heard of Zombeavers either, but I think I know where this is going…. Let me guess, Zombeavers is terrible too.

TJBM is into arts and crafts.

Coloma's avatar

Actually I have been wanting to experiment with alcohol inks and mayde decorate some tiles and glass. I am more the writer, interior decorating and crafty humor type but I have a very good designing eye, inherited from my father who was an Architect.

TJBM likes an aesthetically pleasing environment.

CunningFox's avatar

That actually sounds like a really cool idea for an art project. I really do love an aesthetically pleasing environment. It can change my whole mood just to be in a nice looking room.

TJBM has tried, considered, or is a vegetarian or vegan.

Coloma's avatar

I was for a few years back in the mid-70’s but not anymore though I don’t eat a lot of meat. Maybe a couple times of month.

TJBM is a foodie.

CunningFox's avatar

I do love food a lot, however, I’m notoriously picky about what I eat. Not very adventurous. So..I don’t think I qualify for that title.

TJBM drinks coffee black.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I do. I heard that makes me a psychopath! So be it. My coffee has no calories. I’m a calorie free psychopath.

TJBM is a psychopath.

CunningFox's avatar

Yes. I like my coffee like I like my men: psychopathic. (Wait, what? scratches head and loathes self a little bit)

TJBM likes the tv show Survivor.

Coloma's avatar

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Yes I do!

TJBM likes old films.

Coloma's avatar

Yes, and new films and middle aged films and films that have not been filmed yet.

TJBM is having a lazy afternoon today.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

No, I had a very busy afternoon. We got a break in the weather for a few hours and I was able to get the animals out for some fresh air and fodder. A few minutes ago, it began raining again. Radar looks like it won’t break again until Monday noon.

TJBM has done some ranching

Coloma's avatar

Micro-farming, not really ranching. Hobby farm is more like it.

TJBM likes Nectarines.

NomoreY_A's avatar

Not really. Not much into fruit. Heart attack special from Mickey D’s is more down my ally. TJBM is taking a drive in the boonies this afternoon.

Mimishu1995's avatar

No car here.
TJBM doesn’t like cars.

Coloma's avatar

I like cars, I like to drive but… I don’t like the cost of maintaining them, insurance and repairs.

TJBM will tell us the color of their car or truck or SUV. Mine is silver.

Mimishu1995's avatar

We are going to reach 500! I’ll help you EC.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I’m not sure. It’s a mid-seventies Jeep CJ-5, I think. Over the past 40 years, or so, it has been caked with mud, rust, guano, sun baked to a hard shell, rolled a couple of times, been underwater twice, had its roof torn off long ago—and still keeps going. LOL. I love this filthy, fucked up, old machine. I scraped the corner of one of the out buildings with the right front fender about a year ago and I think I saw a bit of green or blue paint. The dash is blue metal flake, so it was probably a blue Jeep at one time.

TJBM prefers their vehicles to be a certain color.

Mimishu1995's avatar

No. I just don’t feel the need. I have owned my old motorcycle for 15 years and I still don’t feel the need to paint it.
TJBM will move on now that we reach 500.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

I’m not one to break tradition, Mimi. I will wait for you to create #80.

Coloma's avatar

Yee haw….hit the trail to a new jelly town!

NomoreY_A's avatar

Come along fellas and I’ll tell you a tale, all ‘bout my troubles on the Jelly Trail.
