I need some writing ideas for my comic?
I plan to make a comic on webtoon about a food-loving baby hippo named Hurley and his best friend Ox, who is an Oxpecker. I need some ideas for my first page. I plan to add different characters later on and have a variety of scenarios. The comic should have an innocent and cute feel to it. So, any suggestions? Thanks!

Perhaps Hurley and and Ox are chilling and talking about their favorite food. Ox says they love garlic bread. And then Hurley says they are great at finding garlic. So Hurley runs off and finds a truffle. Then Ox has to remind Hurley that he is a Hippo and not a pig. Then there is some weird eye sparkles and they end up wanking each other off behind a Sbarro.
Do you have a clear idea what the first story is like yet?
What age group are you making this for? Is it supposed to be for entertainment only, or is it supposed to be teaching as well? In other words, what is the overall goal??
Only with that information can we give good advice.
Well, to introduce your characters to viewers, they should be introduced to each other in the story.
Since they are babies, maybe Ox could be riding with his mommy on Hurley’s mommy’s back. Ox mommy could tell him he is old enough to ride a Hippo of his own. She introduces him to Hurley, and nudges him to fly over to Hurley’s back.
Both Ox and Hurley feel shy at first, but soon see how cool a symbiotic relationship can be.
Welcome to Fluther.
If you plan to appeal to older adults in the USA, you can’t go far wrong by making some kind of oblique reference to “Hungry Hungry Hippo”© the child’s active board game, or to “The Hungry Hippo” of television’s Cheers series from the 1980s.
But… WTH is an oxpecker, aside from the vulgar reference that it connotes?
Little Ox cleans out nasty parasites from Hurley’s anus, you could say he tics the right box.
Everything is perfectly fine between Hurley and Ox until one day a dozen reps from the Oxpeckers’ Union fly in and ask Ox (who has been providing his services without charge) how much Hurley is paying him.
Outraged by the answer they receive, they strong-arm (I’m sorry…..‘strong-wing’) Ox into demanding oxpecker union scale (which is 150 fleas per day). Hurley, being an abnormally clean hippo, has nowhere near that many fleas to give.
Having little choice, Ox flies off into the trees, never to be heard from again…..sort of like Jimmy Hoffa…..
The End
