Could Trump have arranged the shooting to draw attention away from his own troubles?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33552points) June 14th, 2017

This sounds sort of Alex Jones-ish. But could Trump, through some cut-outs and indirectly, have arranged the shooting this morning?

- gets the FBI thinking about something else for a couple days

- gets the headlines off Russia and Sessions and Comey

- makes him look presidential

It’s a long shot, of course, but not impossible.

I wouldn’t put anything slimy against ole orange hair.
But I don’t really think he is clever enough to pull it off, but definitely maybe.

The shooter was a Bernie supporter.
The whole thing is awful.
I find neither humor nor credence in pointing fingers at our President.

That’s some pretty morbid wishful thinking.

Is it possible? Sure. Anything is possible. Is it likely? Not in the absence of anything even remotely resembling evidence.

I don’t think think we need look any further than the shooter, Hodgkinson, in this case. Scalise was a “great friend and patriot” according to Trump who is more likely to throw his “friends” under a bus than to shoot them.

Lock him up !!......Lock him up !!.........LOCK HIM UP !!!

(Oh…..I’m sorry…..I heard some things that whenever someone hypothesizes, that means it’s absolutely true…..)

Could we not do this. Assume it is a nutter that lost his shit. Did you know this wasn’t the only mass shooting today? OH YEAH BABY.. THIS IS THE UNITED STATES…

San Francisco Shooting: Gunman Kills 3, Then Self at UPS Facility

9–11 wasn’t a inside job. The baseball wounding wasn’t a inside job. People are just horrible.

I think Donald Trump is one of the worst politicians to come down the pike, but I don’t think he did, or would ever, resort to something like that.

This is just another tragedy, by another disturbed person.

Beyond being absurdly far-fetched, I fail to see how Trump might benefit. The delays realized are trivial. What difference will a couple of days of headlines other thanTrump matter? Does anyone foresee their opinion of Trump possibly improving based on his reaction to this?

@elbanditoroso The shooting was a manifestation of political rhetorical terrorism. As Kathy Griffin’s symbolic beheading of Trump. Political rhetorical terrorism made manifest.

I agree with @johnpowell. I almost think it’s easier to accept conspiracy theories than it is to accept reality. Though conspiracy theories often sound very far-fetched and elaborate, they are, more or less, ways people try to convince themselves that the world isn’t as bad as it really is.

Hang on a second, @johnpowell…..“People are just horrible” ??

Come on, man.

Alright, let me think about that for a moment…..

.......Oh, sweet Jeebus, you’re right !!......

People ARE for the most part pretty-much goddamn HORRIBLE….

I don’t think highly enough of Trump to think that he could think of and maintain attention span long enough to perpetrate such a plot. Besides, he can just fire some pointless cruise missiles as ISIS if he wants a “presidential” distraction.

flutherother's avatar

If he did it hasn’t worked Trump is now being investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller for possible obstruction of justice.

I don’t think Chump was behind it, I do think it is irony in the extreme. These are the same people who are in bed with the NRA and the Gun Lobby, and who absolutely refuse to consider any kind of sane, reasonable gun control legislation. Now the whack jobs with guns have turned on them. What about the gun control issues now, Repubs? And one other thing – their lame excuse for sucking up to the Gun Lobby, other than the Second Amendment, is that if good guys have guns, they can stop the baddies with guns. So why is it their is never a carrying good guy around to prevent these things from happening? Not talking abut Law Enforcement, I’m talking about the much hyped but never available carrying citizen.
