What are some foods that most kids loved when you were little, that you did not like?

Asked by Kardamom (33481points) June 18th, 2017 from iPhone

when I was a kid, I was a very picky eater, and it caused me a lot of anxiety. At home it was fine, because our parents never forced us to eat anything. I thank them for that, because I love so many different kinds of foods and flavors today. (I chose to become vegetarian, as an adult, but that is a topic for a different Q).

When I was little, I always felt a little weird and embarrassed when eating with people, other than my own family, because I disliked so many foods, and not just Brussels sprouts that most kids hate.

I did not like “brown” sodas like Coke, Pepsi, and rootbeer. I only liked orange soda or clear sodas like 7UP, and they had to go flat first, because the carbonation stung my tongue. Thankfully, as an adult I don’t care for soda at all and never drink it, so that one was a plus. We rarely drank soda anyway, so that was easy to avoid.

I also did not like hamburgers or fried chicken, or potato salad, or spaghetti and meatballs, or tacos, or ice cream flavors except chocolate, strawberry and vanilla, or meatloaf, or mashed potatoes, or corn on the cob, or any pizza toppings other than cheese.

Thankfully, when I was in my late teens, my tastebuds started to change, and now there are very few flavors that I do not like. My parents didn’t shame me for not liking certain foods when I was little, and for that I am eternally grateful.

What are some foods that most kids liked, that you couldn’t stand as a child, and do you like them now?

I never cared much for puddings or marshmallows. Still don’t.

Raisins. Even now, put raisins in anything and you can be sure it’s safe from me. Cautious as I am, I sometimes get caught with a cookie that I thought contained chocolate bits. Nope, they’re raisins, and now I have to either dispose of it gracefully or choke it down. Sometimes they even contaminate salads! What a test of mannerly self-control.

Cheerios. Yuck. Chocolate milkshake.

Any non-vegetarian foods. I turned into a vegetarian when I was five.

I also disliked Capri Sun, which everyone around me seemed to love.

I’ll have to second Jeruba, I hated raisins, still do. My grandkids all like them, and I recall when I was a tyke myself, kids always coming outside with raisins and offering some to me. No thanks. Nasty little things.

I hated cranberries and KFC 90’s style French fries. Biscuits. My scones need extra blueberries for me to eat them.

Anything flavored with Strawberry, including strawberry ice cream. Strawberries were ok if I dipped them in sugar, but I didn’t regularly eat them.

Cold cheese.

Whipped cream.

I never ate peanut butter and jelly.

Potato chip dip. Actually, almost every dip I didn’t like.

I didn’t like cheese, and therefore, Pizza, cookies, cake or any kind of sweet dessert. I loved fruit and cream.
I now like pizza, but not most desserts – except cheesecake.
