Why would the Russians prefer Trump to Clinton?

Asked by stanleybmanly (24153points) June 21st, 2017 from iPhone

Since it is now edtablished that the Russians sought to interfere in the Presidential election to the benefit of Trump, what payoff might they anticipate?

They were already doing business with the Trump organization.

The premise is wrong.
But having said it, the Russians simply wanted to sow seeds of doubt in the minds of all American voters that our “system” is somehow sacred and inviolate.
Certainly they were aware that popular wisdom was that Hillary Clinton simply was destined to be the next president, even though she has polled negative since her husband was elected.

They may have anticipated the outcome from a distant objective perspective in a way that the biased American establishment could never see.

Or maybe, they were simply grossed out at the prospect of listening to a shrill, judgemental and entitled wanna be for four to eight years.

The Russians gain from the chaos in the West, Europe and US.

Say what you want about her, but Clinton is well schooled in Putin’s tactics and agenda. She knows the enemy from decades of being exposed to information only the highest seats of power can access. She is much more capable of sabataging Putin’s efforts around the world, and therefore more dangerous to him than Trump.

On the other hand, Trump is a typical enfranchised heir of wealth and privilege who fancies himself a rogue businessman and who has no idea how to deal with a mafioso like Putin, and therefore his naivete makes him easily manipulated. Putin is no dummy. He would much rather deal with a tyro like Trump than an old warhorse like Clinton.

@Espiritus_Corvus and @Hawaii_Jake nailed it.

Chaos in the West helps Russia, Trump and Russian oligarchs had history, and Hillary was up on Putin’s shit.

Weakening or eliminating the EU and NATO alliances are goals for Putin.

Weakening or eliminating the EU and NATO alliances are Trump goals that Steve Bannon spelled out clearly during the campaign.

Trumpsters are (probably) not doing this for Putin, but they share common enemies.

The Russians clearly know that we now have enough Kardashian-watching, Pro Wrestling-worshiping, Benny Hinn-following nitwits in this country that they needn’t bother firing nukes at us.

Just help get an unstable, ultra-egotistical, easily-controlled, highly-confused, phony-baloney carnival barker in office, then just sit back and enjoy the show…

Clinton was smart and experienced. Trump is a pompous ass. What better way to humiliate the US on the world’s stage?

So is no one going to point out how incredibly fucking sexist it is to characterize HC as “shrill?” Alright, guess I’ll do it then.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

^^How in the world is that going to better the situation? The only people concerned about the sexist remarks surrounding the past election cycle are those who practiced it. And they, in all sincerity, can go fuck themselves. Happy now?

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

@Espiritus_Corvus Your guy won. Why be so emotional? Why are you so shrill?

cinnamonk's avatar

@Espiritus_Corvus Why are you hostile to me in every thread we both answer in? What the fuck did I do to you?

I was referring to Josie’s answer in case it wasn’t obvious.

My guy. Right. LOL.

Look, these people were never supposed to get in. America is in a real life or death struggle right now. In order to get these people out once an for all will take a concentrated effort. To continuously get side tracked on what they say and the trigger phrases they use plays right into their hands. It’s a waste of energy and you are only speaking to the choir when you complain about it. Yes, they are offensive. But what needs to be called out is what they do. That is more offensive by magnitudes. It’s high time people set their priorities, pick their battles strategically, and to be offended at every little thing they say is a total distraction.

And I suspect a non-confrontational cowardliness in this. It is a way to say “I’m in the struggle, too” but not seriously doing anything concrete toward change. It’s bullshit, a luxury we don’t have right now. When we get decent people in the seats of power, have to it. But right now, there are many other important things one can do besides complain about how certain assholes speak. Speak to their actions. Ignore theiir bullshit. It disracts people from the fight.

I was an RN for almost a quarter of a century. The battle I’ve chosen is for Single Payer Universal healthcare in the US. I read about what the present administration is doing to keep that from us, and I speak to it constantly whenever I get a chance. I try to educate Americans on how it works, how it saves money and how successful it is in other democracies with thriving economies. I don’t allow myself to get distracted by verbal insults. And that’s how you fight, if you’re seriously into the fight.

Your battle might be different. There are a lot of things that the present admin is doing to choose from. But being overly sensitive will only side rail the conversation—and this is exactly what the opposition wants, because they know their argument—that their plans for universal healthcare is equitable and fair for all—is packed with falacy, errror, and disingenuous to the extreme—and therefore unarguable. They will lose if they push that argument too far and they know it. So, the best tactic for them is to distract, confuse and divide us.

So, it’s nothing personal, guys. Whether you realize it or not, this is a street fight. When chairs are flying, you’re not going to get a lot of sympathy from your team if you stand up in the middle of it all and whine about something some guy said. It’s way beyond that now. Now is no time to be so damn sensitive.

I’ve no problem being called “shrill”. Shrill I may be. The word to me is not loaded with gender like it is for you guys.

@cinnamonk
She is shrill. Not my fault for noticing.

PullMyFinger's avatar

Well, Harry Truman spoke with a nasally whine…..but I sure wouldn’t mind if they could resurrect HIM from The Great Beyond right now….

stanleybmanly's avatar

Well there’s no disputing that you would need to search long and hard for a less subtle demonstration on the flaws with America than Trump at the tiller.
