Parents, or anyone, have you ever dropped a baby or toddler?

That was squirming in your arms? Did you worry about it? Did the baby get injured? I asked a mom and she said that babies are resilient .

I haven’t.

Not to my knowledge.
Unless you count the time I worked in human resources in ancient Sparta.

Our 14 month old fell out of a pop up camper onto fist size gravel. That was a fall of about about 5 feet. We went to the emergency, but she wasn’t hurt. Maybe she twisted and landed on her diaper, but I thought she went out head first.

When we were in married student housing, they had vinyl tile on top of concrete floors. Another baby fell off of a high bed onto her head on that floor. She was fine. But she could have been seriously injured.

When my son was 3 months old he managed to throw himself out of the car seat, which was on top of the kitchen table, and down to the floor. OMG. Scared the shit out of me, but he was fine. Didn’t even cry.

No.

My coworker said when he and his wife brought their baby home from the hospital, his wife went to bed and he was on the couch holding the baby. He nodded off and the baby rolled out of his arms and down to the floor (wrapped up in the blanket like they do with new babies). He said his wife was so mad at him. Baby was fine.

They bounce. It’s all good.

Yes. Active offspring, tired mommy. It happens. There were no injuries.

I never dropped one, but my baby girl dropped herself.
Babies are rubber coated rocks. They fall hard and bounce back up.
My daughter was about three months old. I left her on my queen size bed (in the middle) just for a minute. Somehow she got off the edge and hit the floor head first. She was okay, but one side of her head was skinned up. A few days later I did the same, but put pillows on each side of her. For the life of me I don’t know how she squirmed past those so quick and did another nose dive. She shouldn’t have been able to at all. This time the other side of her head rug burned. She was fine, but her hair grew in a mohawk until she was two.
I was so relieved when at last her hair follicles were working again.

@Rarebear it is somewhat disconcerting to hear a doctor say that.

They bounce. Or just splat like my son did!

My SIL wouldn’t put up the gate I borrowed when she stayed with me, and her toddler tumbled down a full flight of stairs. Not from her arms, but as far as I’m concerned she dropped him. He was fine luckily. I was pretty pissed.

@cinnamonk Back when I was doing deliveries in over 500 I never dropped one, although I came close once.

Slippery little monkeys.

Especially when they’re born.

Best advice is not to pick them up in the first place.

Use the grip gloves, with the little dots on them.
