Is anybody else craving any off-season treats?

Asked by Kardamom (33494points) July 9th, 2017

I mean, it is July, and it’s boiling hot, but I am currently craving gingerbread.

Are any of you craving any delectables that seem out of place for the season?

I know someone craving apricot pie.

I’m really sensitive to hot foods when it is this hot. A month ago I was all grilled cheese and soup. Now I want salads and cold sandwiches.

But I would go down on some cornbread dripping with butter.

No. I crave a big Porterhouse steak.

My taste preferences tend to line up with the seasons. I love apples in fall and winter but would not care for one now, even if it tasted as good as the ones that are in season. I like peaches and nectarines in warm weather, but have no interest in them when it gets cooler.

I could go for some winter squares. Maybe a hubbard.

I know that Hallmark and some of the other women’s cable channels are running Christmas movies.

“Squashes” not “Squares”

I have been craving my spaghetti sauce but it is too damn hot to eat a spaghetti dinner right now.
I am buried in various squashes and tomatoes from the garden and really, really, am craving pasta and sauce but just-too-damn-hot to cook anything. Last night I had cashews and apricots for “dinner.” haha

I have this urge to roast a turkey. The problem is it’s damned near impossible to locate a fresh turkey. As a matter of fact, let me try to google one up now.

An ice cold glass of eggnog would be great right now.

I would like some non-alcoholic egg nog.

I’ve been behaving myself lately and laying off the sugary snacks. I have one chocolate bar a month. I usually just have a parfait for my after dinner dessert.

Omg! @LuckyGuy! Now you’ve just put the thought of eggnog into my mind. I love eggnog and would happy drink it every day : )

LuckyGuy's avatar

i only drink the non-alcoholic kind. Fortunately it is only seen during the holidays. It comes in 3 versions: Premium (high fat), regular, (fat), and fat free. (Yuk)
I only drink the regular kind – usually one quart for the season. A quart container is about 1500 calories, (yikes!), so if I drank that every day I’d gain 15 pounds in a month!
And we all know: a moment on the lips is not worth the weight on the hips.

I also only drink the non-alcoholic kind. Last year I bought several extra cartons and froze them. It thawed out quite nicely, so I had eggnog in February and March : )

That is a neat – and dangerous – trick! I’ll have to try that!

I have never considered any treat off season.

^^ Now that is a perfect answer!

I wouldn’t say no to a chilled mug of eggnog right now, spiked or virgin.

Kardamom's avatar

@Pachy, can I tempt you with some pumpkin pie or some juicy red cranberry sauce? How about some ribbon candy? : )

@Kardamom, let’s just go ahead and have Thanksgiving! We can be thankful Trump is having bigly bad days.

With regard to Trump, we could call it Spanks Giving.
