Is it weird for a guy to have the balance to run in high heels?

Asked by Myusernamenotyours (179points) July 11th, 2017

I am a guy, and I can run, skip, do anything in high heels. Also, my aunt and I went to her friend’s house to do her slip-and-slide. We got it as wet and soapy as possible, but we couldn’t slide very well on the intertube, so I walked right across the slip-and-slide without slipping or sliding…

No. No weirder than it is for a woman.
And why on earth are you wearing high heels for recreational purposes?

I’m not. I was just wondering, so I tried it.

OK. It can be done, but not well. If I was running for my life I sure as hell wouldn’t do it in heels. It shortens your stride considerably.
You might want to try wearing them for a full day, driving a car, picking your way across ice, doing all the everyday things a woman actually does while wearing heels.

I’m a female, and I can’t balance or run in high heels, so kudos : )

Wait…what inch heels are you talking about? Also do the heels have a broad base or are they pointed?

If you can convince yourself that it’s not weird for a guy to be wearing high heels in the first place (and not part of a theater troupe, a cross-dresser or some kind of performer in general), then maybe nothing is weird at all.

I used to all out sprint wearing a pair of roller skates as a kid. I just dug in with the stoppers and went for it. I always won the races at the rink because of the head start it gave me. Balance is more mental than anything else.

I think that high heels are weird to my (subjective, of course) sensibilities, and anyone being able to run in them of feel natural walking in them seems alien to my experience, though I understand that some people do, though I think usually people require practice.

If you find it natural to do that, and to walk on a slip ‘n’ slide, then I suspect you have above-average control and awareness of your footing and balance, which is cool. How are you with stilts, tight-ropes, skateboards, etc?

It’s unusual for anyone – without practice. You’re lucky. I can barely walk in those things so I don’t.

I don’t think it’s any more weird than it is for a woman.

I still wish he knew what he considered “high” heels.
