What if a person goes to psychologist and says I need to look like Brad Pitt or whoever?

And when asked why he says “Because I strongly feel like him. I have been listening to him, I’ve read his books, and I identify with him about everything he talks about”. What would the psychologist (a competent one) say?

I don’t understand the point. The psychologist would probably say “ok.”
I don’t get your question. Is it about psychologists or are you still confused about transgender issues and are trying to compare a fan obsession?
In my opinion, a competent psychologist would help the patient to figure out why he/she needs to look like a particular person simply because he/she identified with that person.
The person adds Inside, I strongly feel like “I am a Brad Brit”
Even the least qualified psychologist would think “What????”
“What was your relationship with your mother?”
@RedDeerGuy1 Yes.
It’s about changing one’s anatomy in both cases.
It’s too bad when people refuse to open their minds to any new ideas. Sad.
Low self-esteem for sure, maybe deeper problems. Possibly borderline personality disorder even. The psychologist would probably make an attempt to understand why this person desires this so much through regular sessions with the patient to get to the bottom of the problem, depending on the perspective/theory and technique they specialize in. Psychodynamic (usually associated with Freud), Behaviorist, Humanistic, etc. They all would approach this case differently depending on their specialization and also treat it differently.
People have gotten plastic surgery after developing this unhealthy mental problem. One guy tried to make himself look like a human Ken Doll. It’s so unfortunate to read about these kinds of things because the person obviously is suffering with their body image a lot and needs help.
That is like ” I’m Jesus ”
I suspect that you are trying to equate being transgender with someone wanting to look like Brad Pitt. They are not the same.
Absent Brad Pitt, no one would ever want to look like him.
People who are transgender are probably wired to feel like the opposite sex/gender and would feel like somerhing is wrong, even if there were no dolls or dresses, or pink and blue being assigned to girls and boys. If Brad Pitt didn’t exist, there would be no concept of wanting to look like Brad Pitt.
Who the hell mentioned transgender people?
@Sneki2 she just “suspects”, given that @flo has been asking about transgender recently.
They’re talking to the wrong doctor. They need a plastic surgeon. Then, it’s just a matter of money….
If a person goes to a psychologist and says that you need to look like Brad Pitt – not that you would know that unless he told you (meaning the person or the psychologist, assuming that either or both of those are men) – then there’s nothing that you or I could do about that (unless one of us were the psychologist, which would put a very different spin on this question, if not the response).
Really, @flo: pronoun hell is a thing. Who has to look like Brad Pitt? You or the psychologist’s client?
Again, I think this is a flo-istic take on the transgender issue.
@MrGrimm888 I thought people need to get the psychologist’s ok in order to get major surgical procedures.
@Kardamom @Mariah said it on another thread. It’s what others are inserting in your head about what you are or are not. (according to Mariah)
It,s supposed to be in countries and ages where women need/needed to be barefoot and pregnant, and walk behind the husband, you would feel like you have to have woman’s feeling and man’s feeling concept. I guess.
@CWOTUS you’re getting distracted by who it is who asked the psychologist. See my response to @Kardamom above and to @Mariah and others at the other threads regarding transgender.
I knew there was a subtext!
@janbb Your posts help my side of the debate.
I have “transgender” as a tag.
@flo I don’t have a side on this particular question; I’m just striving for clarity although I do need to state I am firmly on the side of transgender rights to self-determination.
@flo, again, you completely misunderstood what I said in your other post. Don’t put those words in my mouth, they’re not mine, they’re your twisted version of them.
