After years of searching for it, and not finding it, can you tell me the name of the piece of music i am looking for?

Hi all, it is me.
Nice to meet you again.
It’s been a while….
Thank you to those who have welcomed me back, sort of, already!
I asked a question, seven years ago, and it went something like this:
I’ve searched in Google, using many different search words, been to specialized websites, searched in several top 40 lists of years that i thought it was published, etc.
In it, the band members are introduced by, probably, the band leader.
Like this: “On bass, Dave Smith (made up name)”.
After that you heard a small bass solo.
Several other members were introduced too.
The song was a bit (if i recall right) in the atmosphere of Peter Gunn from Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
I think, not sure at all, that the word show was in the title.
It must have been around ‘85—‘87 (2017 edit: let’s broaden this to ‘90).
Anyone?
2017 edit:
It’s not Dire Straits.
Not Emerson, Lake, and Palmer.
Not The Band.
Not Sting/The Police.
And not Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

There’s an app where you can hum or sing the song and it recognises the name and artist. I think it’s Shazam, but I’m not sure. I do know such an app exists.
Thank you, @Sneki2, for that suggestion.
Unfortunately I can’t recall the melody….
I answered to several members, back in the day, the following:
“I would like to add that the main band member introduces, besides the bass player, a percusionist, a drummer, a keyboard player and some more.
…. it made up a big chunk of the whole piece of music, like one third or a quarter.
And it was in the hit lists (as far as i can remember).”
And I would like to add today, that it might have sounded a bit Miami Sound Machiney, bit disco/(‘80)dance.
And it was live (99% sure about that).
It sounds like a Tom Rush tune that I have on my iPod somewhere. I’ll try to dig it up on YouTube and get back to you. In the song, he introduces the members of the band in that sort of casual-goofy way, starting with, “I’d like to introduce the boys in the band…” and ending up with “yours truly, little Tommy Rush from NEW Hampshire.”
@CWOTUS I’ll let you dig, if you like to, otherwise I can dig around myself.
I can’t tell you how thrilled I already am to read something that might be it (or not)!
Thank you!
I’m not sure if this was the song I had in mind or not (I haven’t listened to it in a while), but I think this is the one I had in mind… Kids These Days
And welcome back!
Edit to add: Yes, that was the song that I had in mind, so if it’s not that one then I’m blank.
Thank you, both for welcoming me, and digging through your iPod!
Unfortunately it’s not it, nor the artist…..:-)
Okay, good luck then.
I’m wondering if it might be Tom Petty or The Traveling Willburys (which also contained TP, didn’t it?), it sounds sort of like his style, and the time period is right for TP, though early for TTW.
Archie Bell and the Drells “Tighten Up”?
@CWOTUS No, it’s not Petty either, ‘my’ piece of music is more happy/dancy/discount.
@filmfann No, too early.
Nice song though!
Thank you!
It’s not “Frampton Live?”
@jca Nope :-(
Thanks, though!
I’ll go with ‘The One In The Middle’ by Manfred Mann (which is about 20 years before your timeline, but what the hell….)
Well, hi @rebbel!!!
You have ANY of the lyrics to share?
I just messaged an old high school classmate who was a rodie through the late 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. If anyone can find it, he can.
@Stinley Nice try :-),
But no…
@PullMyFinger That’s about twenty years before my timeline ;-)
And, nope.
Thanks anyway!
Hi @Dutchess_III !
Nothing that stuck literal in my mind, just the introducing lines like: “On bass, Dave Smith. On drums, Mister Soandso.”
Can’t wait until you hear your classmate, thanks!
Reminds me of this by the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band but the time period is way too early.
Let me touch bass base with him again. And now you have to stay here for ever @rebbel! This place is like the Hotel California.
Dare I suggest another forum? One specialised to your particular requirements? What about Allthelyrics?
@flutherother This is not it, but it is the closest thing to it, that I have ever received as a suggestion in my quest.
It’s also very helpful, in that I can now use this video as a sample of what it is I’m exactly after.
I thank you very much for this, @flutherother!!
@Stinley Same goes for you; thank you very much for that website suggestion!
Last time I did an extensive search for my desired song I hadn’t found this site.
I registered (on mobile the forum doesn’t seem to work that well, for me) and will put my query in tonight.
Thnx a million!
@Dutchess_III As long as I can check out any time I like, I’ll stay!
You can check out any time you like!
@rebbel: When you find out the answer, I’m sure there are a lot of Jellies here who are really curious what the song is!
At around the 4:20 mark (at the start of the second song in the set on this live session video) John Prine starts to introduce a couple of his band members. If this isn’t the piece you had in mind, is this the style of introduction you were talking about?
Not really, @CWOTUS.
The difference being that the music isn’t playing yet (in my song, I believe, there’s already some music being heard), he introduces only two members (in mine it were 5 or 6 or 7?), and in this the introduction takes 3 seconds (in mine, I think, 30 to 100 seconds).
This one, by @flutherother, comes the closest.
Thank you for your effort!
@jca I will definitely let you know!
I know! I know! Let me get on my computer to link it!!!!
If you do, if you got it, I’ll reward you with a coffee and pie.
Invisible Man Queen The reason I think it might be this is they introduce everyone in the song.
I don’t drink coffee, but I would take a diet pepsi.
“Brian May, Brian May!!”
Nope, it’s not it, @chyna.
I got that album (as I do all of theirs) where it’s on.
It’s more a dance (80’s), Latin, piece of music (the one I’m looking for).
Thanks for trying though!
Not sure how to bridge the gap between the Peter Gunn theme and Miami Sound Machine (?!) but the song that comes to mind to meet your criteria is the live version of Oh L’Amour by Erasure.
1986, has a disco-ish vibe, and the lead singer introduces all the instruments in the band. I’m sure you’d have heard it in the Netherlands, as Erasure played a bunch of shows in Germany in December 1986 and it would have been all over the radio.
Hope this is the answer you’re looking for! If it’s wrong… dang it.
@hrairoo Thank you for trying, but unfortunately it’s not it.
I know Erasure (they had a few hits here), but this one I didn’t know.
I didn’t hear instruments getting introduced, by the way.
@rebbel No worries, I thought it was worth a mention. The band intros happen only in live performances of the song.
Good luck on your continuing quest!
I think he dreamed it up.~
