What is a sound, or sounds, that you find appealing? I’m not thinking of musical instruments, but rather more mundane things, either in your every day life, or something a little more rare.
I was thinking, or rather remembering, something the other day. My grandparents used to have an electric coffee percolator when I was growing up. I always liked the whrsh whrsh whrsh sound it made. It was somehow comforting.
What mundane sounds do you find appealing?

The sound of mourning doves cooing in the neighborhood. Somehow therapeutic and relaxing to me.
@NomoreY_A I second that. I’m listening to one just now.
Random noise, like cars, people mowing lawns, roosters and dogs, are somewhat soothing to listen from afar. I also like rain and white noise (it’s similar to when you turn on an old tv and there’s no signal)
Waves breaking on a sand beach or rocky shore
Wind in the trees
Rain, in all strengths
The wind in leaves.
Flowing water.
Falling rain.
The odd silence you hear during heavy snow.
The clickety-clack of the railroad track, when riding on a train.
Nature such as thunderstorms, ocean waves, wind and breezes through the trees.
Also, my wife snoring, my daughter laughing, and my dog sighing.
Children playing and laughing outside (NOT screaming bloody murder.)
The sound of my kids or grandkids coming in the door unexpectedly, when I’m still in bed.
@zenvelo‘s answer actually gave me goosebumps just now. I love that sound! I have a CD that I often listen to, for falling asleep that is train sounds.
@Rarebear I just looked up Shepard’s tone and that kind of freaked me out. They use that a lot in scary movies, especially scary movies in space.
@Sneki2 Yea! I found them a while back. It’s actually pretty interesting. Now that we can map brainwaves like we do, someone went and figured out the frequency those coincide with. So these sounds are set in hertz to match various brainwave frequencies. They’ve found that in many cases brainwaves will sync with the input, sort of inducing a mental state that comes with that brainwave pattern. There’s some info about it in the description of that video.
The first time I listened it tripped me out because it kinda feels good when it should just be an annoying sound… lol Like someone tickling your brain. Everyone is different though. You have to jump around the different hz to find which one really affects you at the moment. If it’s one that actually feels good (a sort of tingling sensation) then that’s your guy! haha Headphones help.
I love the sound of the crickets chirping and frogs peeping on summer nights. The rustle of leaves wafting down in a breeze and the sound of a purring cat, a great horned owl hoo hooing in the woods and I also love the sound of Coyotes yipping it up at night.
For some reason, the jet engines of an airliner make me very drowsy. I walk on the plane perfectly wide awake, sit down, buckle-up, and before the plane even backs up, I am starting to nod-off.
Every. Single. Time.
Fluffing up pillows, moving big comforters around, the swishy sound of sleeping bags as you move inside them.
The whimpering sounds emitting from the room of a hurriedly packing, just been fired member of house staff…even better is the sound they make when I give them a reprieve, truly enchanting.
…....not Carstairs, though…...please say you don’t mean Carstairs too…..
He’s bulletproof…rest easy.
