Describe your favorite sandwich. What kind of bread does it have? Or does it even have bread? Maybe your favorite sandwich is a wrap rolled up in a tortilla. What kinds of fillings do you like? Do you prefer cold sandwiches, or toasted sandwiches? Do you like to make your own sandwiches, or do you have a favorite restaurant or sandwich shop that makes your favorite sammi?

I like a foot long cold cut special from my local Sub Shop, but the name of the place escapes me right now. On edit, that would be Subway. Call that a senor moment.
- Grilled cheese with thin slice of tomato baked in
– lox and cream cheese on toasted bagel
Just kidding, it’s a Kebab.
Grilled ham and cheese. I use diced ham and shredded cheese.
At school I used to get them but it was a slab of ham so if you didn’t bite all the way through you would pull out the entire middle of the sandwich. So I slice it all up to get nice bites.
Shrimp and avocado with a lime/Dijon Vinaigrette on a toasted baguette.
Mood based.
If I want to eat something light, it’s a BLT.
If I want something heavier, it’s a delicatessen pastramin and swiss on rye with mustard, on rye.
Crunchy peanut butter and ripe banana on whole-wheat toast. That sandwich transports me to a special, calorie-laden heaven.
One that someone else has prepared.
Default/go-to/can’t mess it up/always yummy:
Ham and swiss on Jewish Rye Bread, yellow mustard and mayo, lettuce. Chocolate milk and barbecue chips necessary accouterments.
Mein gott en Himmel—how could I have left off corned beef (deli grade) on Jewish rye with yellow mustard, kosher dill on side!!!
@Kardamom My favorite sandwich I used to get a a place called Doc’s Sandwich shop on Higgins Ave. in Missoula Montana. It had two slices of bread, turkey, stuffing and cranberry jelled and miracle whip. It really was wonderful!
Hamburger
PB&J with strawberry preserves
Subway turkey with everything except HOT peppers (sweet peppers are OK), then swathed in sour cream.
Spiced Raw Mince with raw onions and pickles and mustard.
Egg salad.
Pickled Herring with raw onions and pickles.
@josie As you know, all things in moderation.
(don’t let what happened to Elvis happen to you…)
I like pepper jack cheese with avocado, sliced onion, tomato (sliced really thin, because I like the flavor, but not so much the texture, of tomatoes) lettuce, mustard and mayo on whole wheat bread.
I also love good egg salad, I don’t like it too moist, because it falls out of the sandwich.
I also love a toasted caprese sandwich (fresh mozzarella, tomato, and basil).
When I still ate meat, I used to love meatball sandwiches. I can make a pretty good one with Trader Joe’s fake meatballs, pizza sauce, and melted mozzarella on a sliced open French roll.
I also used to love pastrami sandwiches. So far, I have not found any vegetarian alternative meat product that is anywhere near the flavor of pastrami.
@josie Would you like to stop by for lunch sometime soon?
I have a few favorites. Not a fan of lunch meats but love tuna salad on toasted bread with tomato slices, bread and butter pickles and lettuce. I also love egg salad with sweet pickle relish, chicken salad with diced celery, cream cheese & dry salami sandwiches and plain tomato sandwiches on toasted bread.
Oh…and PB&J on raisin bread!
Well, blow me down. Another freakin’ food thread. I’m heading to Taco Smell for a 5 layer beefy burrito. Or two, or three.
For me, it depends. If I want something hot, maybe grilled cheese (American cheese, white bread). If it’s an Italian place, eggplant parm on a roll.
Maybe cream cheese and jelly with walnuts (if you know me, you know I love nuts).
Good sandwiches I’ve had out are Subway tuna with yellow peppers (I don’t remember what they’re called – they’re in little rings). Also, Panera has a great chicken salad called Napa Chicken Salad. It’s a little sweet and has some fruit and almonds in it.
At home, I sometimes make egg salad with onions and celery. I don’t like a lot of mayo, which is why I almost never order egg salad, tuna or chicken salad in a deli. I hate when it’s gloppy with mayo. I like it more on the dry side. Panera’s chicken salad is gloppy but it’s not a heavy mayo, it’s a light, liquidy stuff.
Here’s an amazing chicken salad sandwich I memorized from making at a little muffin and sandwich shop I worked in years ago.
Mix canned or diced chicken breast with :
1 Tbs. mayo
1 Tbs. Caesar salad dressing.
Mix in diced red grapes and slivered Almonds.
Serve in Pita Pocket bread with Romaine or Butter lettuce.
Delicious!
Pinguid chance that I’ll ever share the salmagundi sandwich secret to the piquant potpourri pleasure plate.
Wafers of leg ham off the bone, similarly sliced vintage cheddar, tomato, beetroot, cucumber, onion, mixed lettuce and grated carrot (baby) on buttered mixed grain bread.
What aficionados refer to as a ham, cheese and salad sanga.
