I think it would be fun to work at a theme park like Disney. Even picking up trash would be fun. It is the happiest place in the world.

@RedDeerGuy1 From your posts, you would probably enjoy working at a comic book gaming store. Maybe a place that hosts Magic the Gathering nights or other game nights.

Walmart, museum, tourist locations, mall, cinema, parks services. Anywhere that you say hello to people and help them find things, or conduct simple purchase transactions.

I had fun working at McD. And I learned about the business too.

Funnest job I ever had was the movie theater.

You want us to pick a job for you? Start with what you know about yourself. What types of jobs have you had? What did you like or not like about them? Would it be worth the money that you earned if the job was okay but not a whole lot of fun?

Kardamom's avatar

Most jobs are not fun. Most jobs are worked for the money, or the experience to get a higher paying job.

Do you really want a job? If you got a job, would you lose your benefits?

chyna's avatar

@kardamom. Good point!
Benefits would be hard to get started back up if a job didn’t work out.

Kardamom's avatar

@chyna Exactly! I would be worried that our @RedDeerGuy1 would end up losing his benefits if he got a job, in that they would decide that he is not disabled if he took a job. I think we have known him long enough to know that he does have a disability, but someone looking to hire him might not know that. Taking a job, then having it not work out, could really be a damaging situation for him if it meant losing his benefits.

Volunteering might be a better way to go. Also, most people who volunteer, choose activities that they really like, because the money part of it is not a factor, they can choose what they enjoy doing. Also, the act of volunteering is helpful to the benefactor and the volunteer. It’s a win win situation. And, if one feels they cannot volunteer, for whatever reason, they can just stop, or take a break, rather than having to “quit a job” or “get fired from a job” which is never a good thing.

@RedDeerGuy1 Would you be interested in volunteering rather than seeking a part time job? If so, what kinds of activities do you think you might be interested in pursuing?

Working at a movie theater was also the most fun I had working. Although a lot of that was due to the fact that a lot of my friends worked there too.

I have the same concern that @Kardamom has though.

@anniereborn :: I think that is common trend at theaters. It was my first job. I had interviews at KFC and Sbarros and was rejected. But three of my roommates worked at the theater and out of the 40 people that worked there I had partied with about 80 percent of them. I got the job!!

And in my three year years working there nearly everyone that got hired knew someone or transferred from another theater. And this is a college town. We got 10s of applications a day.

And the job lends itself to getting to know your co-workers. Since you work for a hour and then have two hours of just hanging around.

I worked as an usherette in an entertainment centre when I was younger. That was fun. I didn’t get to see many concerts, but I worked at the circus and they had sporting events on and I got to watch them once we’d shown people to their seats. And the people I worked with were all a similar age so they were a fun team.

@MollyMcGuire Don’t you have to know how to dance first?

Anything with animals, working at a museum/art gallery, working with kids/teens (if you like them). Teaching skills to people, writing, editing, etc.

Also, I really liked waiting tables and bartending. You meet interesting people and sometimes make even make decent money.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1, have you thought of doing some voluntary work until you can find a paid position. It can really help you to develop more skills and access contacts who might introduce you to some paid work. I was looking at @LeavesNoTrace‘s post, and I know people read with people who don’t have English as a first language at our libraries. I’m very sure you have knowledge and experience you could use to help others. It might be a good way to ease yourself back into the workforce.

Christ, you can come & work for me at those rates, fluff up a cushion or three & Harriet’s your aunty.

MollyMcGuire's avatar

@anniereborn Every job requires knowing something about something. Proficient breathing will not get you very far.

anniereborn's avatar

@MollyMcGuire Many minimum wage jobs give you on the job training though.

zenvelo's avatar

I guess none of us suggested a job that was sufficiently fun. Not a single response or word from the ori hinal poster.

@zenvelo sorry I can’t handle much at the moment. Psychic reader sounds interesting.
