Can anyone tell me what the problem could be, with the DVD/CD player on my lap top?

Admittedly it’s an old laptop, maybe 10 years old. But I cant afford a new one now and it serves all my needs. The DVD player worked fine for years, then a few weeks ago, I tried to put in a movie for my youngest grand daughter, and it wouldn’t play. Nor would any others. Any ideas? Aside from buying a new PC. (Not a big deal I have a regular DVD player, Just annoying.)
