Sasquatch, Yety, vilas, nymphs, elves and dwarves.....what if they actually were some lost tribes and communities we couldn't keep record of, but our ancestors have seen them and kept them in their folklore?

Asked by Sneki2 (2452points) August 14th, 2017

What if they actually existed, and were humans, but they belonged to some unknown tribe, hidden in wilderness, that got lost before anyone succeeded to document them. So, ye olden ones knew they existed, have seen them or got in contact with them, and kept stories of them, but we can’t find them now, because they are lost. What if they still exist in some small numbers, roaming around, but we believe they don’t so we don’t look for them?

Just some food for thought.

Neanderthals fit the bill and they have left traces of their existence. They lived in Europe until Homo Sapiens (us) arrived then went extinct shortly afterwards. There may well have been other such creatures that have found their way into our myths and legends. I wonder what they thought of us?

There is an area of the Big Thicket country of Texas, where some people believe a lost tribe of Indians may still exist. I’ve seen tales of a skeleton of a phone company lineman tied to a pole a by Indians and shot full of arrows. I will see if I can find you a link. Probably just a story.

I think it would br really cool, @Sneki2 if that were the case. But proof of some sort would be needed.

Fascinating hypothesis!

See @flutherother
What you are saying is exactly how it was with Neanderthal Man. They lost out to Homo sapiens, and vanished. But they left evidence of themselves behind. So it seems reasonable to think that those other things would have left evidence behind in the same fashion.

Well, we wish. There is 0 evidence of BigFoot or anything else.

@josie actually, they interbred with Homo Sapiens. We all have Neanderthal genes in us.
