Can we send James Alex Fields to Guantanamo prison like other terrorists?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33577points) August 14th, 2017

He was the driver / murderer in Charlottesville.

If Guantanamo is good for Muslims, why is it not good for American terrorists?

No, he’s white.

No. Sadly for us, he is an American citizen.

If he is found guilty of what he is charged with he definitely deserves his punishment.
But sorry, didn’t we, sensible people, agreed that Guantanamo was a bad idea, for terrorists and innocents alike?
So why send this guy there?
Treat him like you would any other (to be treated).
Otherwise, I feel, we are no better.
One better not let hate/wrath consumes one.

No reason to do so. Fields can be tried in the US just like the terrorists who bombed the World Trade Center in 1993.

Guantanamo prison has hurt US interests more than it helped.

On the bright side Virginia still executes people.

The authorization for sending people to Gitmo is restricted to those who are linked someway to the 9–11 attacks. American citizenship doesn’t help you avoid it, but good ol’ boys out for a weekend of righteous whuppin’ are not authorized.

Most people forget that the purpose of Guantanamo is to deny foreign captives and POWs access to Federal Courts. It is in fact a rather slippery avoidance of the truth that the inmates concerned are clear cut examples about “denial of due process”. Fields, on the other hand, committed his alleged crime on U S soil and is probably a citizen to boot.

@stanleybmanly Oh, he’s definitely a citizen to boot!
