Have you ever seen or heard of a cat that does this?

Asked by Aster (20028points) August 20th, 2017

I talked to the neighbor across the street for half an hour and forgot to ask her this question: “why does your cat sit in the center of your driveway , not move, then go back inside? Why do you think he never runs off and never walks off of your driveway?”
It is so cute to me. He just sits there for maybe fifteen minutes then goes back inside. Have you ever heard of a cat that does this and why would you think he does it?

Sounds like he is just surveying his domain and then decides to go back inside, probably to eat or nap again. Cats are quirky creatures. Every morning my big guy gets up with me and then sits in the entry way staring at the door, then looking back at his food bowl deciding whether he wants out now or should eat breakfast first. Breakfast usually wins. haha

ok but is it normal? I thought cats ran off. Or at least walked through their yard. If I had a cat I’d be scared to let it out the door!
My friend’s cat was let out during the night every night but last month he never came back.

^ I don’t think it’s abnormal, just what that, particular cats routine is. maybe he does walk around more and you just don’t see him doing it. Maybe he goes out in his backyard but feels more secure just sitting in the driveway out front surveying things. Cats are very territorial, maybe he is watching anther neighbor cat in their yard. Who knows, but I wouldn’t say it’s abnormal, just what he does.

He must do his surveying on an irregular basis. I’ve only seen him do this about once a month. My office is on the front of our house.
There are no other cats around the neighborhood. Lived here six years and he’s the only cat I’ve seen. I suppose other cats are staying inside if there are any.

Just about anything a cat does is normal,. I had a cat that would climb the fence and stretch out and just watch. Cats like to keep an eye on things.

It doesn’t seem abnormal. The kitty goes out, checks out the surroundings, then goes back home. Are there any birds flying around that he’s watching? Is the sun hitting him when he goes outside? Who knows exactly what the cat is thinking, but that’s his routine. I think cats like routine.

I agree it’s cute.

He knows you are watching. When you look away it is a whole different scene.

^^^^^. He can’t see me watching him. Their front yard is extremely deep so their house is at the back of their lot. So he’d have to see to the front of their lot, then across the street , then across our yard to my office window. I can only see the outline of his body it’s so far away. And again, he only does this about once a month. He just sits there.
