The Blue or the Red pill choice (from Matrix)

Asked by Samantha4One (1331points) August 26th, 2017

Hello

My question is directly related to the 1999 movie called The Matrix.

In the movie Morpheus offers Neo these two pills.
Red is to go down the rabbit hole & find the truth, Blue is to keep on believing in the illusion of the matrix.

So, my question is what if you were in Neo’s place, what if you had to decide, what if Morpheus asked you, which pill would you take?

Before answering be sure to remember what Cypher had said..
“Ignorance is bliss”.

Outside world is not that pretty anymore.. One would rather choose to stay in a beautiful dream than to wake up in hell..

I don’t take candy from strangers. I would not take either.

Ideally, I would take the red pill but stay inside the matrix.

At one time I would have taken the red pill without hesitation, but now I am not so certain. Is there such a thing as too much knowledge. Are there things that we are better off not knowing? Should there be limits on what we can do with artificial intelligence and genetic engineering? The blue pill is starting to appear very tempting.

Red. Knowledge is power. You were always in the meat farm, not knowing doesn’t mean you aren’t. I just couldn’t knowingly leave truth on the table like that.

The blue pill lets you live in the ‘90s over and over. 1999 was a pretty sweet time, TBH.

Remember when the most offensive thing about the president was that he had a consensual sexual encounter with an adult woman?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

I’ve already been down the rabbit hole, the red pill, truth and burning through illusion is always best.

In general, I’m a red pill kind of guy. Unless I’m convinced there’s only misery that way, or have something in mind for the blue.

One issue to consider is that the context is the decider does not know where the rabbit hole leads. Most people don’t even know that there is a red pill, or don’t trust the messenger.

Another issue is that generally the blue pill existence isn’t great and gets worse, especially once one has gotten to the point where they know there’s some sort of rabbit hole.

The problem is a metaphor for a real awareness issue (or perhaps several) that exists in the modern world. I avoided the rabbit hole I saw for quite a while, and got increasingly miserable. When my Morpheus saw that I had seen the rabbit hole, she asked me how long I was going to wait. I said I needed to sleep on it, but then quickly chose the red. It was definitely the right choice for me.

Take both and see what blows up.

It doesn’t matter whether you take the blue pill or the red pill.

You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area.

There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus.

Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You’re a plague and we are the cure.

So many good answers…
My personal opinion would be taking the Blue pill at first for the sake of not being able to eat delicious dishes anymore.. even if the taste of those dishes are only electrical signals sent to the brain to make us believe we’re actually eating even though we’re not.

But if machines only thinks of us as batteries… then i will definitely take the Red pill.

Thing is why didn’t they just write their own programs to simulate eating a big juicy steak. If they can run around doing kung foo and shit why not throw in some creature comforts.
