Vegetable broth, dried pasta, canned beans (black beans, pinto beans, cannelini beans, garbanzo beans, lentils), canned artichoke hearts, canned corn, canned tomatoes (diced and paste) jarred pasta sauce, cans and cartons of soup, jarred salsa, canned pumpkin, canned evaporated milk, dried grains (quinoa, wheat berries, farro, bulgur wheat) canned olives, jarred marinated beets, jarred Indian cooking sauces in different flavors, packets of instant oatmeal, bags of prunes and dried cranberries, bags of nuts (almonds, pecans and walnuts) packets of dried onion soup mix, jars of dried herbs and spices (too numerous to mention) vacuum sealed packets of prepared Indian food meals, dried (baked, not fried) ramen noodle soup mixes, canned stuffed grape leaves, baking supplies (flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking soda, baking powder, salt, Bisquick, brown sugar, powdered sugar) multiple kinds of bottled hot sauce, boxed cereal, and several boxes of specialty cake and muffin mixes, vegetarian “Jello” mixes, cocoa powder, and chocolate chips.

That’s off the top of my head.

Oh, I just looked. Not sure how I forgot. Instant coffee, bags of ground coffee beans, and about 4 different kinds of tea (tea bags and loose tea).

Dry goods, mostly. I use sections of 6” and10” PVC pipe tapped and capped on both ends for containers. Pasta, cassava starch, agar-agar (the clear, tasteless thickener used in Asian cooking and tapioca, made from seaweed), coffees, teas, sugar, cornmeal, bisquick, flour, oatmeal, powdered milk, cream of wheat, dog & cat food, 5 lbs of dried chocolate whey protein that I was recently given as a gift and about 10 different kinds of dried beans and peas.

I keep some canned vegetables, meats and fish for backup and for the boat pantry, and some MREs for quick hot meals when out on a stormy sea. I got dismasted out there without food once and that’s not ever going to happen again. I also have a big freezer in the pantry that I keep meats and fish in.

Everything else I can get from the garden, the chicken coop, the orchard, the sea, or in trade down at the fruit stand/bait shop. This place is alive with fresh food for the taking due to the climate and rich land that has been naturally fertilized with guana and detritus for millenniums. You can’t starve here.

The reason for such a well packed pantry is that it’s a real pain in the ass to get to a decent grocery store here. It takes up the whole bloody day—time that I’d rather use to snorkel for fresh lobster and conch. If I get a surplus, I can trade it for something else at Kita’s fruit stand on the way home.

@Espiritus_Corvus “You can’t starve here.” Where is “here”?

I rented a small apartment to live together with my girlfriend, and we have an old fridge landlady gave us. We always reserve a small amount of foods that we can eat up for one day as the old fridge wastes electricity very much, such as a piece of meat, two onions, some noodle, potatoes, kinds of knives and plates, and so on. Last evening my friend and his girlfriend bought an electric pot and we had a great chaffy dish.

Kraft dinner and tuna. Mix that shit together and you are good to go. Protein and delicious.

Just make sure you have a camping stove that uses small cans of propane to cook your stuff.
