Do you have stubborn family members? Do you get along with them?

Asked by rockfan (14632points) September 7th, 2017 from iPhone

I think stubbornness is genetic in my family. All my relatives on my dad’s side live near the ocean in Miami, and they’re staying during the Hurricane. My parents have told them to book a flight to our house, but they’ve refused. Since there’s still time, we’re still trying to convince them.

Yes to Question 1 and to Question 2, the answer is…sometimes.

My older brother gave me some good advice a few years back. Our aunts are very involved in a large Evangelical Christian church, some of whose views we find to be well…deplorable. They are extremely political and extremely conservative and constantly pushing an agenda.

He’s a very diplomatic and amicable person and I always admired how much he could get along with them despite not agreeing on much. He told me that “Sometimes the best way to have a genuine relationship with someone, is to have a limited one.”

This advice resonated with me and now I can say that I 100% agree. Sometimes you just have to stick to “safe” topics, know when to step back, know when to find common ground, and know when you simply have to agree to disagree.

No, they are all dead, RIP. LOL
My daughter and I can both be stubborn at times but we are also similar in many ways so that while we can, butt heads now and then, our moments dissipate quickly and we get back to going with the flow.

Yes, but my cousin and her family, who don’t believe in any kind of governmental protections, taxes, or assistance for the most vulnerable members of society, moved to Texas so they can pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and be gun nuts to their heart’s content.

We have very limited contact with them. I unfollowed them on Facebook, and they don’t visit CA.

Another cousin divorced her racist, mysogynist husband, and I had to block him on Facebook after he decided to talk dirty to me. Sick SOB.

@Kardamom Haha, man, people, sometimes. Your pervy cousins ex, reminds me of the time my next door neighbor and good friend for years, almost ex husband gave me a gift bag with a dildo in it, out of the blue, one day. Unreal! I almost fell over.

Really? Blew my mind. Asshole to the 10th power.

Yes and Yes.
My daughter is the most stubborn person I know. She comes by it honestly. My wife and my Mom were both really stubborn.
