What am I missing about 50 Shades of Grey?

Asked by Pandora (32436points) September 15th, 2017

So I finally got around to renting it and seeing the movie. Since the movie got so much controversy and great reviews, I thought it should be something that I should watch at some point. Well I watched it and now I want my 2 hours of life back.

I wasn’t drawn in by any of the characters. The sex parts were boring, (like the characters), and the plot was lame. I wanted the driver to drive them all off a cliff. So what was the big deal about this movie? Even for porn, this was lame. What am I missing?

Haven’t seen it yet, but I’ll remember your review.

Have you seen the movie “The Game”? That is my favorite movie. It is 2.5 hours long but will balance out the shit you just watched.

If you do not have easy access to it. Send me a pm or something.

BDSM relationship, which in people’s eyes looks edgy. Also wish fulfillment really, who doesn’t like to be an average girl catching a rich man’s attention? Also the hype from the marketing.

Nothing. It’s a generic and dumb down movie/novel about a certain lifestyle. It’s poorly written too. And boring af.

If I remember correctly, the movie actually got terrible reviews, which is why I avoided watching it

@johnpowell, I completely agree with you about “The Game.” Besides being thoroughly entertaining, I found it quite moving. I had once gone through a weekend initiation that included similar disorienting elements, so I identified with the character’s isolation, confusion, pain—and ultimate “rebirth.”

I also completely agree about The Game.
I have no desire to se 50 Shades of Grey. I don’t find the characters even remotely attractive or interesting from the previews.

I haven’t read the books and haven’t seen the movie and have no intention to. What I heard is that the two actors (the male and female lead) in the movie cannot stand each other in real life. Anywhere off camera, on the red carpet, promo events, etc. they don’t speak to each other at all. I heard they have no chemistry in the movie, which may be because they hate each other. Even if there were great reviews of these movies, I am not interested in them.

That movie’s fuckin bullshit. This is what people call ” offending” or controversial? People are really fucking uptight or close minded then.

It’s a b&d fairy tale. It’s horseshit.

Glad to know I wasn’t alone in thinking it sucks.

@johnpowell The Game with Micheal Douglas?

Pachy's avatar

Yes, with Douglas.

It’s horribly written tripe that gets BDSM totally wrong.

I put it with True Blood. Just girl porn. Pornography isn’t supposed to be clever, or well written. I sat through several episodes of True Blood with my ex. I knew she’d be in the mood afterwards. “I done it all for the nookie…”
