Yes, I know that the great eclipse is over. But now, what to do with those glasses? Someone told me that they’re good for only 3 years, and if I think no one will use them in the next 3 years, I should throw them out.
Is this true for both the kind with the plastic frames and those with the cardboard frames?

I don’t know what kind of film your particular glasses are but I’m going to say they are probably not going to of a material that will not degrade. I would not expose them to the elements. rain, snow, heat sunlight. Keep them in a folder labelled “Eclipse” and you should be good to go in 2024.
I bought some solar film for telescope 15 yeas ago and it is still perfect.
According to NASA: “As long as your eclipse glasses or viewers are compliant with the ISO 12312–2 safety standard and the filters are not scratched, punctured, torn, or coming loose from their frames, you may reuse them indefinitely.” But if you don’t want to hold on to them, you can always recycle them. In any case, don’t just throw them away.
