Does anyone have the problem of hearing your heartbeat in your ear?

Asked by ZEPHYRA (21750points) September 16th, 2017

Pulsating, non-stop heartbeat sound. Can’t just be tinnitus. Seems to be getting worse. I have been to at least 4 ear specialists who have not shed any light on it. Is it time for a vascular specialist?

I have that when I’m in bed, when my head is on one side on the pillow.
But only when I have severe stress.
I read that you have already been to four specialists, but I’ll ask you anyway, just in case:
Could it be stress related, @ZEPHYRA?

I thought it could be, but ALL the time? I also used to get it when lying down but now it’s happening all the time and does not fade away even with Xanax.

All the time, as in 24/7?
Week in, week out?
That would sound maddening.
I would bring the possibility of stress being the cause up at a next visit to the doctor.
Together with a remark about your Xanax (dose) intake.

Of course I can only suggest the (possible) stress cause because I have experience with exactly that, but there may be a different reason.
Maybe other Jellies will chime in.

Yes. When I was pushing myself In gym class in Junior high.

i have had it a few times for a short while – no more than a half a day. That was still enough to really bother me. Each time I took a benadryl and went to bed. The beating was gone when I woke up.

Sometimes for a bit, but it’s unusual and a bit disconcerting. Usually in bed with ear on pillow, I think. Usually doesn’t last long.

When I take a long walk or run when its hot outside, I will get that heartbeat in my ear. It goes away pretty fast though

I read that this can be a feature of low iron which makes sense as I was just diagnosed with terribly low iron.
