The best Professional Dart player to ever live.
His video for “Don’t Come Around Here No More”, an homage to Alice in Wonderland, captured my imagination for years. A great song (by he and The Heartbreakers) made even better by the best of what MTV could be.
His solo work and time with The Traveling Willbury’s I love as well.
His death has not been confirmed.
That said, “Recover and thrive, Tom.”
In so many ways, Petty sang the sound track of my life.
Still not confirmed that he died, so recover!
I didn’t care for most of his stuff, but I did like The Traveling Wilburys. Who knew Tom Petty and Bob Dylan could combine for quality backing vocals?
I caught him when he and Dylan toured together in the 1980’s. Great show! Opened with Petty and Heartbreakers, then Petty solo acoustic, followed by Dylan and Petty acoustic, then Dylan solo, the Dylan with the Heartbreakers, with the encore by Petty and the Heartbreakers featuring Dylan.
Not really my type of music but I liked it. I never bought a CD but I wouldn’t change the station if he was on.
He seemed like a pretty nice guy. Fuck today…
I liked him a lot in his first moment, in the 1970s. I bought his albums.
I didn’t think of him much over the later decades, but in the past few years kids I know in their 20s started playing him. I was surprised. Happy to hear him again, but surprised.
The Washington Post says he’s dead.
I taught my youngest to talk in part with Tom Petty’s “Yer So Bad”. My daughter is now 20 and she still loves that song.
This was sooooooooooooo sad for me. All my favourite artists are DEAD or dying now.
