Are there fond old movies that lift your spirits when you just happen on them on television?
I turned on the tv to catch the news, and there in all its glory is the campy but very entertaining 1952 version of “Ivanhoe”. Right now it’s the tournament at Ashby. I just love the dialog in this movie. What movie does it for you?

Yes! Another of the greats.
Mr Smith Goes to Washington always brings a tear to my eyes.
And I love it when Mr Deeds Goes to Town (the Gary Cooper version, not that jerk Adam Sandler) comes on.
Ghostbusters
Independence Day
The Trouble with Harry
Bringing Up Baby
Note: these are all light-hearted. That’s what I like. Something that makes me laugh.
Billy Wilder’s The Apartment
It’s not exactly lighthearted subjected matter, but I just love the comic timing between Jack Lemon and Shirley MacLaine.
Hudson Hawk (I know it’s not a great movie but I’ve always enjoyed it).
Casablanca. Great film great acting great dialogue.
Any movie with Laurel and Hardy. They just make me laugh, but they’re not gross or mean like The 3 Stooges (whom I do not care for).
Any movie with Shirley Temple.
Any Hitchcock movie.
Most movies with Dudley Moore. He’s just silly, and sweet, and cute, and British.
The Sound of Music.
Most old school Disney movies: Peter Pan, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Bambi, The Jungle Book, Mary Poppins, although I’m not sure if those movies are ever on regular TV. Maybe you can only see them on the Disney channel.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Bueller! Bueller! Bueller!
Casablanca
Citizen Kane
Lawrence of Arabia
The Best Years Of Our Lives
City Lights
Fight Club
Pulp Fiction
Unforgiven
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
The Searchers
2001: A Space Odyssey
