Why does so much Fluther spam come from India and comparatively little from the rest of the world?

India has a large English speaking and computer literate population that is cheap (by US standards) to hire for that sort of work.
Same basic reason they hire a room full of people for “Customer Support”.
Computer literate and English speaking; same job requirements (Spam or CSR).
Just wondering, how did you know that the spam come from India?
@Unofficial_Member A lot of the questions state they are looking for __(blank)__ in India. Some just say India as a whole, others say Hyderabad which is a city in India.
A few days ago someone was looking for some sort of service to help them get married, specifically in the “Hyderabad” area.
Some people just want a good washing machine, and they are looking for the best place to get one in the entire country of India
Sooo much spam comes from India/foreign countries, not just on this site but many others that I’ve seen. Including social media. They obviously also have call centers that spam people. It could be because scamming is easy money, or because they just think Americans are stupid. The whole point is, it’s not just Fluther that gets scams from people in India.
(here is a semi related article talking about tech scammers and why you should just hang up. Also includes a few funny videos of people trolling the tech scammers, who (no surprise), are from India
Yeah, I know some of the videos are long, but I just got done watching a few. It’s actually super interesting how different “companies” use practically the same speech and programs to get into the computers, and how they are exploiting things that are truly no big deal, and making them a big deal. Also, so far, all of them are from India.
The site states that they get paid about 1.75$ an hour so that further supports @funkdaddy‘s point that they are pretty cheap to hire.
I suspect that part of the answer has to do with the face of the clock, and the fact that Fluther moderators are primarily – but probably not always – based in North America and primarily available during daylight and evening hours there.
When Indian spammers might be… um… “working” at producing that junk during their daylight hours, it’s after midnight in North America, and even early risers on the East Coast don’t usually start their day before 7 AM Eastern Time, which is the end of a work day in India. So spam produced during daylight hours in India and posted to Fluther at a convenient time for the spammer has hours to sit there (and collect flags) until a Fluther moderator can see it and deal with it.
I don’t know how frequently Fluther gets spammed by North American spammers (and it could be just that they have better-automated spam production, because if you think about it, creating an account on Fluther and then posting spam is a labor-intensive task, especially to reach so few eyeballs, so maybe they just plain “don’t do it” here), but spam that hits here during daylight hours when moderators are at least “available” to take care of it, can be dealt with more quickly.
