Is it in bad taste for Germany to name their new train after Anne Frank?

Asked by Lightlyseared (34907points) October 30th, 2017 from iPhone

Given that she along with millions of other Jews were taken to their death in Germany by train.

Very bad taste. It should never have been named after Anne Frank.

The ‘train’ connection could make it so, though there are MANY things that could be associated with the holocaust. I agree that Anne Frank should be honored or recognized in some other way, now that you point that out.
It was probably unintentional. But someone should have pointed it out.

One may recall that during a prime-time T.V. special on the holocaust in 1980, during a sequence about the ovens where so many Jews were horrifically murdered , an “Easy Off Oven Cleaner” commercial was aired. It well could have been intentional, maybe or maybe not—but someone should have caught it and how it would be construed before it happened. This was probably the most appalling and offensive examples of this ever. It is really not conceivable that anyone would do that intentionally, but there are always doubts.

Yes, very. The U.S. may have to give up its place as the current leader of bad taste in the Western world.

I don’t think Anne Frank would have objected to being in the company of Sophie Scholl and Dietrich Bonhoeffer whose names have also been suggested. However given the role that Deutsche Reichsbahn played in her death and the deaths of millions of others it seems to me that it is in very bad taste.

It is but Germany & bad taste go hand in hand so nothing new there.

Yes. A children’s park would be great; a train not so much.

Yes. Someone made a poor decision.
